Portland City Council Advancing Fuel Storage Plan

(Portland, OR) -- Portland City Council is moving forward with new rules for the fuel storage hub along the Willamette River in Northwest Portland. The industrial land is called the Critical Energy Infrastructure Hub, which runs from Sauvie island to the Fremont Bridge. The new rules uphold the ban on new fuel terminals, while limiting the expansion at existing ones. It's designed to reduce the risk of a major fuel spill during a Cascadia Subduction Zone earthquake, according to city officials. Council adopted amendments and a final vote is set for November.
