(Salem, OR) -- A federal judge has ruled the Trump Administration can't make it harder for people battling serious illnesses to keep their Medicaid coverage. Under H.R. 1, Medicaid recipients, like those on the Oregon Health Plan, must verify their eligibility more often. Congress made an exception for people living with serious disabilities or illness, like cancer, but this summer, the Trump Administration rewrote the definition of "medically frail," narrowing who qualifies for the exemption. Oregon, and a coalition of states, filed a lawsuit and a Massachusetts federal judge ruled the change was illegal and gave states six months to make necessary changes before enforcement begins.
