(Portland, OR) -- The Oregon Zoo's toddler elephant Tula-Tu is holding steady as she fights EEHV, a virus that can be extremely dangerous for young elephants. Staff are treating the elephant with antiviral medications, fluids and a series of plasma transfusions. The zoo's Director of animal health Dr. Carlos Sanchez says her white cell counts are nearly back to normal and her viral load is trending down. She also seems more alert and her appetite has improved. Tula's mom, Rose-Tu, is also a constant presence, nursing and comforting her young calf.
