Detroit Lake Ruling
Categories: State News
(Portland, OR) -- A federal judge will allow the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to lower Detroit Lake this fall to its lowest historic level to help salmon. Marion County plans to appeal. They argued a similar drawdown of nearby Green Peter Lake caused sediment to flow downstream. The Santiam River flows through Detroit Lake and downstream from the dam are city water systems that could be damaged by the sediment. 220-thousand customers get drinking water from the river.
