>>Watching Wall Street 

(New York, NY)  --  The opening bell rings this morning after stocks closed mixed yesterday.  That, as tech stocks have been struggling, with shares of Oracle, Nvidia and Advanced Micro Devices all seeing a dip.  At the closing bell, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 51 points to 51-231.  The S&P 500 fell 36 points to 77-65. The Nasdaq dropped 345 points to 27-193.

 

>>Vice President Vance Accuses Microsoft Of "Abusing" Program To Grant Workers Permanent Status

(Washington, DC)  --  Vice President Vance says foreign workers at Microsoft will no longer be able to apply for permanent resident status in the U.S. through an employer-based program. Vance accused the tech company of abusing the process, and it's now suspended from the permanent labor certification program. The program allows companies to hire foreign workers to work permanently in the U.S. Vance said at a press conference that he wants Microsoft to thrive in the U.S., but to employ American workers.

 

>>Spotify And Joe Rogan Come To New Nine-Figure Deal

(New York, NY)  --  Spotify and Joe Rogan are entering a new deal to extend a relationship that began in 2020 for his mega popular podcast.  Rogan is set to receive an estimated 250-million-dollars over the multiyear term, similar to the deal he cut with Spotify in 2024, according to the Wall Street Journal.  Spotify will continue to handle ad sales and licensing for "The Joe Rogan Experience."  Terms of the agreement have not been disclosed. Rogan also released a statement about how he's excited to continue the partnership.

 

>>NFL Asks Supreme Court To Hear Argument Over Prediction Market Regulation

(Washington, DC)  --  The NFL is asking the Supreme Court to take up a dispute over who has the authority to regulate prediction markets. The NFL argues that wagers should fall under state gambling laws. The league filed the request as part of a dispute between Kalshi and the state of New Jersey, which produced conflicting decisions at the appellate level. Kalshi and other prediction markets argue that the wagers they offer are known as "swaps" and are federally regulated by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission. States, however, view this as gambling and say it should fall under their jurisdiction.

 

>>Denny's Drops Sneakers With Syrup

(Spartanburg, SC)  --  Denny's latest drop is a real drip.  The diner decided to bring back its syrup-infused sneakers after the first edition sold out in about a minute.  The 195-dollar Sticky Kicks 2-point-0 launched overnight, with real Denny's syrup inside the shoes, blueberry-colored laces and syrup-inspired soles.  The limited-edition sneakers didn't last long.  They're already sold out.

>>Ahead Of The Bell 

(New York, NY)  --  The opening bell rings on Wall Street after stocks closed lower yesterday.  It comes as the ten-year Treasury note yield reached its highest level since April of 2002.  Elsewhere, the minutes from the Federal Reserve's September meeting revealed officials expect to raise interest rates again before the end of the year.  At the closing bell, the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 341 points to 51-179.  The S&P 500 fell 17 points to 78-01. The Nasdaq dropped 61 points to 27-538.

 

>>Diesel Prices Hurting Truckers, Economy

(Wilmington, CA)  --  Record-high diesel prices are squeezing truckers and could mean higher prices for consumers.  Triple-A puts today's price for a gallon of diesel at six dollars and 28 cents.  Some drivers are paying more than eight dollars a gallon, up sharply from earlier this year, as the industry struggles with rising costs and a shrinking workforce.  Trucking companies say they may have to pass those costs on, while some operators are selling trucks or leaving the business.  President Trump has ordered agencies to look for ways to lower diesel prices, but analysts say it's not a long-term solution.  And the higher costs could reach grocery stores and other businesses in the months ahead.

 

>>Next Gen Roadster Coming This Month

(Undated)  --  The long awaited, and long delayed, next generation Tesla Roadster is coming soon.  CEO Elon Musk had teased October 1st as the unveiling date for the Roadster, but complications out of the company's hands have forced the roll out to be pushed back until October 15th.  Once the wraps are taken off, the public is expected to get a look at an all-new carbon-fiber hypercar, limited editions of which could reportedly come equipped with cold gas thrusters developed in collaboration with Musk's other venture, SpaceX.   

 

>>McDonald's Sued For AI Pricing

(Chicago, IL)  --  McDonald's is facing a federal lawsuit accusing the company of using AI pricing tools that unfairly drive up menu prices.  The proposed class-action lawsuit claims the technology allows franchise locations to share non-public sales and pricing data, amounting to illegal price-fixing.  McDonald's denies the allegations, saying franchisees - not AI - set menu prices and that its pricing tools are optional.  The lawsuit comes as customers report paying significantly different prices for the same meals at different McDonald's locations.  The case could have broader implications as lawmakers and regulators across the country examine the use of AI to set consumer prices.

 

>>Super Bowl LXI To Stream On Disney+

(Los Angeles, CA)  --  Disney is adding another option for football fans to watch Super Bowl 61.  The company announced the big game in Los Angeles will be available to stream on Disney-Plus when it takes place on Valentine's Day.  The Disney-Plus livestream will be in addition to the game airing on ABC and ESPN.  Disney-Plus subscribers will have access to the traditional broadcast as well as the ESPN Deportes Spanish-language telecast.  The Super Bowl will also be available on Disney-Plus in more than 55 international markets.

>>Wall Street Closes Higher, S&P 500 And Nasdaq Hit Fresh Records 

(New York, NY)  --  Wall Street closed higher Tuesday with the S&P 500 and Nasdaq both posting new all-time records.  A rally in tech shares boosted markets with Marvell Technology up six percent after the company provided long term guidance at its Investor Day.  Traders are now awaiting Wednesday's release of the Federal Reserve's minutes from its September meeting for insights on the decision to raise rates.  At the closing bell, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 253 points to 51-521.  The S&P 500 rose 44 points to 78-18.  The Nasdaq climbed 122 points to 27-599. 

 

>>U.S. Trade Deficit Widens To The Steepest Since Before Trump Tariffs Enacted Last Year

(Washington, DC)  --  The Commerce Department says the U.S. trade deficit widened sharply in August. This amid an uptick in goods related to the building of artificial intelligence build-out and the unpredictability of import tariffs. Imports rose over four-percent for the month, pushing the total imbalance to over 105-billion dollars. That was a nearly 14-percent jump from July, over of the Dow Jones consensus estimate for 102-billion dollars. It was also the biggest deficit since the all-time gap in March 2025 just before President Trump's announcement of "reciprocal" tariffs against U.S. trading partners.

 

>>DC Federal Judge Considers FCC's Attempted Review Of ABC Stations

(Washington, DC)  --  A federal judge in DC is skeptical of whether the FCC should be allowed to conduct an early review of broadcast licenses that belong to a handful of local ABC stations across the nation. Judge Loren Alikhan declined to immediately rule on the case, attempting to get to the heart of the Trump administration's efforts to look into the broadcaster. The White House argues that the FCC's early renewal process was necessary as part of its probe into Disney's diversity, equity and inclusion hiring practices.  But the move is unprecedented for a media regulator taking on one of the nation's largest broadcast networks.

 

>>Paramount Warner Bros. Discovery Deal Closes

(Hollywood, CA)  --  The merger between Paramount and Warner Brother Discovery has been finalized.  The new company is adopting the name Skydance.  The 110-billion-dollar transaction is expected to result in thousands of job cuts because there will be so many overlapping roles.  The transaction cleared a major legal hurdle last week.  That's when a federal judge approved a settlement resolving an antitrust challenge brought by California and eleven other states.  

 

>>Starbucks Sued Over 'Sugar-Free' Protein Drinks 

(Seattle, WA)  --  Seattle-based Starbucks is facing a lawsuit accusing it of mislabeling eight of its protein drinks as "sugar-free."  The lawsuit was filed by a group of three customers Friday in federal court.  The suit says the eight protein drinks labeled as sugar-free actually have 13 to 21 grams of sugar in a venti serving.  The drinks include hot and iced vanilla and caramel protein lattes and matcha drinks.  

 

>>Uber Spends Billions To Get Into Catering

(San Francisco, CA) -- Uber is spending over two billion dollars to get into the catering business.  It's buying ezCater in an all-cash deal.  That will allow Uber Eats to serve more catering and large-scale workplace meals.

 

>>Prime Big Deal Days Are Here 

(Undated)  --  Amazon's fall Prime Big Deal Days are officially live today through midnight tomorrow.  The 48-hour event features steep discounts exclusively for Prime members across electronics, home goods, and holiday apparel.  Retailers like Walmart and Target are also launching competing sales events this week.

 

>>Student Loans Interest Rate Reductions Continue

(Washington, DC) --  The Education Department is extending a one-percent interest rate reduction for certain federal student loan borrowers who sign up for automatic payments.  Borrowers have through the end of the year to enroll, and those who qualify will keep the lower rate through June 2028.  Borrowers already using autopay will automatically qualify as long as they remain in good standing.  But the discount ends if autopay is canceled or the loan enters forbearance. The break comes as student loan payments and overall consumer borrowing continue to rise.

>>Watching Wall Street 

(New York, NY)  --  The opening bell rings this morning after stocks closed higher Monday to start off the trading week.  The rise was led by a rally in tech shares as the Nasdaq hit a new record despite rising Treasury yields.  At the closing bell, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 90 points to 51-267.  The S&P 500 rose 51 points to 77-73.  The Nasdaq climbed 286 points to 27-477. 

 

>>President Trump Signs EO To Help Reduce Diesel Prices 

(Washington, DC)  --  President Trump has signed an executive order to help immediately reduce diesel prices.  It allows access to "tax-free red-dyed diesel for any reason" until the end of this year.  Red-dyed and regular diesel are the same quality but the red-dyed variety is for off-road uses only, like tractors.  The move comes as diesel prices hover around six dollars and 32 cents a gallon, according to Triple-A.  That's up a couple cents from yesterday, but down from last week's high of six-45.  

 

>>Elon Musk Recaptures Trillionaire Status   

(Starbase, TX)  --  SpaceX's stock shot up eight-percent on Monday making CEO and founder Elon Musk a trillionaire again.  The jump comes as SpaceX has been benefiting from AI infrastructure and other related agreements, Starship and "neocloud" government contracts. 

 

>>Musk Rebranding SpaceXAI To SpaceXSI

(Starbase, TX)  --  Elon Musk says he's renaming the AI division of SpaceX.  In a post on X, Musk said SpaceXAI will become SpaceXSI.  This comes after President Trump signed an executive order calling on the federal government to refer to artificial intelligence as super intelligence instead.  Musk said, "No more AI. SI, it's better."  Trump has said super intelligence better fits the technology.

 

>>Housing Costs Force People To Cut Spending

(Undated)  --  Housing costs are forcing people around the world to cut back on basic necessities, according to a new report from Habitat for Humanity International.  The survey of 30-thousand people across 22 countries found 75 percent cut at least one expense in the past year to afford housing.  One-third spent less on food, while 32 percent dipped into savings and 13 percent delayed or avoided medical care.  Nearly half said one unexpected financial problem could put their housing at risk, while 40 percent said they accept unsafe housing because safer options are too expensive.  Habitat for Humanity says affordable, reliable housing is critical to financial stability, health and overall well-being.

 

>>Apple Says Some iPhone 18 Need Replacement

(Undated)  --  If you recently bought an iPhone 18 Pro Max, you may want to hold on to the box.  Forbes reports some devices are experiencing connectivity problems on AT&T, which can cause users to lose cellular service.  Apple says some affected phones may need to be replaced, while AT&T is contacting customers who may need a software update.  If your phone is working normally, Apple recommends installing the latest software to help prevent issues.  If you do lose service, Apple advises contacting your wireless provider first, followed by Apple Support.

>>Watching Wall Street

(New York, NY) -- The opening bell rings this morning after stocks closed higher to wrap up last week. Stocks rose after the Labor Department said the economy added just 29-thousand jobs in September which raised hopes the Federal Reserve will hold interest rates steady later this month. We're expected to get a glimpse at how the central bank is leaning when the minutes of the last Federal Open Market Committee meeting are released on Wednesday. At the closing bell, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 250 points to 51-176. The S&P 500 rose 56 points to 77-22. The Nasdaq climbed 319 points to 27-190.

 

>>Merged Paramount And Warner Brothers Company To Go By 'Skydance' Name

(Los Angeles, CA) -- Tuesday's expected finalization of the deal that will merge Paramount and Warner Brothers Discovery will see the company go by the name Skydance. Paramount CEO David Ellison says the name will become official once the merger is finalized. Ellison's film and television production company is called Skydance Media. Paramount was renamed Paramount Skydance in 2025, after Ellison merged his company with Paramount Global and National Amusements. Ellison says the name was chosen to preserve the identities and legacies of the iconic Paramount and Warner Brothers studios. This all comes after a California federal judge resolved a lawsuit filed by 12 state attorneys general who had opposed the 110-billion-dollar merger.

 

>>Americans Buying More Hybrid Cars

(Undated) -- Gas prices are topping four dollars a gallon and that's sending more Americans toward hybrid cars, which in turn is benefiting Asian automakers. Hyundai's hybrid sales jumped 39 percent in the third quarter, while Kia's surged 152 percent, with Toyota and Honda also reporting strong gains. The shift comes as electric vehicle sales decline and Detroit automakers offer far fewer hybrid options than their Asian competitors. Hyundai and Kia nearly overtook Ford in U.S. sales last quarter, as Asian automakers captured more than half of the new-car market. Experts say the lack of fuel-efficient models could cost Detroit automakers customers if high gas prices continue. Triple-A puts the price of a gallon of regular unleaded at four-dollars and 36-cents as the work week gets underway.

 

>>Amazon Fall Prime Big Deal Days

(Seattle, WA) -- Amazon's fall Prime Day event returns this week, running Tuesday and Wednesday. Prime Big Deal Days, is the scaled-back version of Prime Day, and gives members access to dynamic markdowns across tech, tools, and home essentials. Subscriptions cost 139-dollars annually to unlock the limited-time price cuts.

 

>>Liquor Distributor Southern Glazer's Agrees To FTC Settlement

(Washington, DC) -- Souther Glazer's, the largest U.S. liquor distributor, has agreed to a Federal Trade Commission settlement. Under the agreement the supplier won't charge small retailers significantly more than nearby chain stores. The Southern Glazer's settlement is aimed at leveling the playing field between independent stores and bigger chains such as Walmart, Costco and Kroger, which the FTC alleged had received better prices. The FTC said for six years, Southern Glazer's will be subject to penalties if it gives its biggest customers in 26 states significantly better prices than independent stores nearby.

 

>>Bayer To Invest $2B In New OH Pharma Site

(Albany, OH) -- Bayer plans to invest over two-billion dollars on a new pharmaceutical manufacturing site in New Albany, Ohio. The drugmaker said Friday it expects to create about 600 jobs in New Albany, with another 15-hundred jobs resulting temporarily from construction. Bayer expects the plant to become operational in 2031 with a site for finished drug product to follow in 2034.

(New York, NY)  --  The opening bell rings this morning on Wall Street after stocks closed higher yesterday to kick off the month of October.  At the closing bell, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 20 points to 50-926.  The S&P 500 gained 14 points to 76-66.  The Nasdaq rose 10 points to 26-871.

 

>>Jobs Report Due Today 

(Undated)  --  The government's monthly jobs report will be released in the morning.  Most analysts are expecting a drop from August, which saw the economy add 162-thousand new jobs.  That number is likely to have fallen to around 84-thousand in September.  No real change in the unemployment rate is expected.  It currently stands at four-point-one percent.

 

>>Amazon October Prime Day Happens Next Week 

(Seattle, WA)  --  Amazon's fall Prime Day event returns next week, on October 6th and 7th.  Customers will be able to shop for deals across a variety of categories including tech, tools, home essentials and everyday basics.  Amazon's October Prime Day is a scaled back version of the company's annual Prime Day sale, though Prime members will still have the opportunity to take advantage of markdowns across hundreds of categories.  Prime memberships, which cost 139-dollars per year, provide access to steep discounts and limited-time price cuts.   

 

>>Americans Spent Over 100 Billion In Buy Now Pay Later Plans

(Undated)  --  Americans spent more than 160 billion dollars using buy now, pay later plans last year, according to research from Federal Reserve economists.  Experts say these plans are increasingly being used for everyday expenses, including groceries, bills, transportation and even rent.  Pay-in-four plans accounted for about half of that spending, with use of those plans up nearly 80 percent since 2023.  Financial experts warn consumers to read the fine print, understand how missed payments could affect their credit and avoid taking on multiple plans they can't afford.

 

>>Lyft To Pay $272.5M In Driver Misclassification Lawsuit

(San Francisco, CA)  --  Lyft is agreeing to pay 272-million dollars in a California driver misclassification lawsuit.  It's the largest wage-and-hour settlement in state history.  It settles a lawsuit, claiming Lyft misclassified drivers as independent contractors.  Drivers say that made them lose wage and workplace protections required under state law.  Eighty-seven percent of the total settlement will go directly to drivers.

>>Ahead Of The Bell

(New York, NY) -- The opening bell rings this morning as Wall Street ushers in a brand new trading month after stocks closed mixed yesterday to wrap up September. This comes following the latest U.S. economic data, which showed inflation slowed last month. The personal consumption expenditures price index for August increased at a three-point-four-percent annual rate. Elsewhere, the market is set to turn its eyes to the monthly jobs reports, which is slated to come out on Friday. At Wednesday's closing bell, the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 443 points to 50-906. The S&P 500 fell 19 points to 76-51. The Nasdaq gained 63 points to 26-861.

 

>>Federal Judge Approves Paramount Skydance Acquisition Of Warner Bros. Discovery

(Los Angeles, CA) -- A federal judge in California has cleared the way for Paramount Skydance to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery. The judge approved a settlement resolving an antitrust lawsuit brought by 12 state attorneys general who had opposed the 110-billion-dollar merger. Under the deal, Paramount will spend at least an additional one-point-five billion dollars on U.S. film production over the next five years and establish monitoring of editorial independence at its news operations. Paramount has set October 6th as the closing date for the merger. The deal would combine two major Hollywood studios, along with Paramount-Plus and HBO Max, and television networks including CBS, CNN, Comedy Central and Food Network.

 

>>Carnegie Mellon Receives Record Gift

(Pittsburgh, PA) -- Carnegie Mellon University is celebrating what it calls the largest donation in higher education history. Citadel Advisors CEO Ken Griffin has pledged three-billion-dollars to the school to continue its international reach and target societal challenges. Most of that gift will establish a CMU campus in Miami, where Griffin maintains his home and runs his company.

 

>>16 Trucking Companies File For Bankruptcy

(Undated) -- More than a dozen U.S. trucking companies have filed for bankruptcy in the last month as diesel prices climb to record highs. At least 16 have filed for either Chapter 7 or Chapter 11, including Xoco [[ SHOH-koh ]] Transport and Globemaster. While trucking companies face many pressures besides the price of fuel, the cost of diesel hit an all-time high last week of six-dollars-and-53 cents a gallon, an increase of two-dollars and 76-cents over the past year, according to Triple-A.

 

>>Fake iPhone Duo Preorder Page Could Steal Sensitive Data: Report

(Undated ) -- If you're looking to pre-order Apple's first foldable iPhone, beware of scams. Malwarebytes reports that a fake preorder page for the iPhone Duo was discovered. The site resembles an Apple page and shows off a tab that offers 500 dollar voucher. However, the deceptive page reportedly uses a tool that can break into vulnerable iPhones, which could then steal sensitive data. Preorders for the iPhone Duo model don't start until October 16th, and is set to drop a week later.
