(Portland, OR)  --  Damian Lillard netted a game-high 28 points as the Trail Blazers spoiled LeBron James' Lakers debut with a 128-119 win in Portland.  Nik Stauskas scored 24 points off the bench, while C.J. McCollum added 21 for the Blazers, who have won 16 straight over LA.  Jusuf Nurkic posted 16 points and nine rebounds in the victory.  The Blazers host the Spurs tomorrow.



(Corvallis, OR)  --  Oregon State is home tomorrow to clash with Cal.  The Beavers are still seeking their first conference win.  They sit at 1-and-5 on the season and 0-and-3 in the Pac-12. 



(Pullman, WA)  --  Oregon heads to Pullman to take on Washington State in a top-25 clash.  The 12th-ranked Ducks sit at 5-and-1 on the season and 2-and-1 in Pac-12 play.  The Cougars are also 5-and-1 and 2-and-1.



(Seattle, WA)  --  The Seahawks are enjoying their bye week and will not be in action this weekend.  After a 3-and-3 start to the season they are in second place in the NFC West behind the 6-and-0 Rams.  The Seahawks will return to action a week from Sunday at Detroit.



(Portland, OR)  -- The Timbers are back in action Sunday hosting Real Salt Lake at Providence Park.  Portland is currently fifth in the Western Conference with 51 points.  Real Salt Lake sits sixth with 46 points.



On the prep hardwood tonight in 6A Mountain Valley Conference volleyball, 6th ranked Summit hosts West Salem and #11 Bend entertains Sprague. Summit and Sprague enter the night tied for the league lead and Summit, Sprague and Bend have all earned automatic playoff berths.
 



The Portland Trail Blazers' season opener is tonight at the Moda Center...and the team is planning special honors for owner Paul Allen who died this week. The players will have a special patch on their uniforms with Allen's initials and a rose. It's a big game for the Blazers, because they play the Los Angeles Lakers. It'll be LeBron James' first regular season game playing for the Lakers. Tip-off is at 7:30 on KBND.



(Undated)  --  In local college football action Saturday, 11th-ranked Oregon will visit number-23 Washington State, while Oregon State will host Cal with both teams looking for their first Pac-12 victory.  ESPN College GameDay will be in Pullman for the first time for the meeting between the two ranked teams.  Portland State has the weekend off.



(Seattle, WA)  --  The Seahawks are off this seek.  Seattle has won three of their last four to even its season at 3-and-3.  The Seahawks return to action a week from Sunday against the Lions in Detroit.

On the prep volleyball floor last night, 6th ranked Summit turned back #11 Bend, 3-1. The Storm share the 6A Mountain Valley Conference lead with Sprague with one game to go in the regular season. West Salem defeated Mt. View, 3-1.

 

Ridgeview takes over first place in the 5A IMC as the Ravens avenged a loss to Crook County two weeks ago beating the Cowgirls, 3-2. The Dalles blanked Redmond, 3-zip.

 

Tonight, Madras finishes the regular season hosting Estacada and in the 2A division 7th ranked Culver has already clinched a playoff spot finishes its schedule entertaining Santiam.

(Portland, OR)  --  The Trail Blazers open the regular season at home tomorrow against the Los Angeles Lakers. The Blazers will play their first three games in front of their home crowd at the Moda Center.  After the three-game homestand, Portland will begin a four-game road trip versus the Magic next Thursday. (Seattle, WA)  --  The Seahawks look to build off a strong victory and continue their winning ways.  Seattle has won three of four and currently sits at 3-and-3 on the season.  The Seahawks will return to the field next Sunday to battle the Lions in Detroit.



(Seattle, WA)  --  Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen is dead at the age of 65.  He died yesterday from complications of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in Seattle.  Allen founded Microsoft alongside Bill Gates in 1975.  Allen also owned the NFL's Seattle Seahawks and the NBA's Trail Blazers.

(Eugene, OR)  --  The Oregon football program has gained a commitment for the class of 2020.  Tight end Seth Figgins committed to the Ducks over USC, Texas and Arizona State.  The Westlake High School standout is regarded as the seventh-best tight end in the class of 2020 according to 24/7 Sports.



(Renton, WA)  --  The Seahawks get a week to rest as they prepare for their matchup with the Lions a week from Sunday.  Seattle is coming off a 27-3 blowout victory over the Raiders in London.  The Seahawks have won three of their last four and currently sit at second in the NFC West at 3-and-3.

(Eugene, OR)  --  The Oregon Ducks have climbed to 11th in the Amway Football Coaches Poll after beating Washington 30-27 Saturday at Autzen Stadium in Eugene.  The Huskies entered the game ranked seventh with a 5-and-1 record.  Oregon quarterback Justin Herbert completed 18 of 32 passes for 202 yards and two touchdowns.  Freshman CJ Verdell rushed 29 times for 111 yards and two touchdowns in the win.  The 5-and-1 Ducks will play at Number-23 Washington State this Saturday.



(Portland, OR)  --  The King is coming.  The Trail Blazers will tipoff their NBA season on Thursday against the Los Angeles Lakers at the Moda Center.  The Lakers made the biggest off-season splash by signing LeBron James.  Portland wrapped up its preseason with a 118-115 triumph over Sacramento.  The Blazers went 3-and-2 in exhibition games.  They waived Gary Payton the Second, Cameron Oliver and Chinanu Onuaku to reach the roster limit of 15.



(Portland, OR)  --  Portland State downed Northern Colorado 35-14 on Saturday at Providence Park to win its second straight Big Sky game.  Quarterback Davis Alexander ran for three touchdowns and completed six-of-nine passes for 90 yards in the victory.  The Vikings are off this week.



(London, England)  --  The Seahawks made easy work of the lowly Raiders in London with a 27-3 victory at Wembley Stadium.  Russell Wilson passed for three touchdowns and an interception while the Seattle defense shut down the Oakland offense.  Frank Clark finished with two-and-a-half sacks out of six total for the 3-and-3 Seahawks.

Number 17 Oregon defeated 7th ranked Washington in Eugene today 30 to 27 in an Overtime game.

(Undated)  --  Oregon was picked to capture the Pac-12 men's basketball title in a media poll that was released yesterday.  The Ducks finished sixth in the conference last year, but return Payton Pritchard, who led the team in scoring, and forward Paul White.  Oregon picked up 16 first-place ballots, while UCLA was second with six first-place votes.  Oregon State was selected 10th.  The Beavers went 16-and-16 last season.

On the prep volleyball courts last night, 6th ranked Sisters blanked Stayton 3-zip in a key Oregon West Conference match keeping the Outlaws within one-half game behind Sweet Home for the League banner. Sisters hosts Sweet Home Monday to finish the regular season.

 

Elsewhere, Madras kept its postseason hopes alive with perhaps an at-large bid by defeating Gladstone 3-games to 1.

(Manhattan, KS)  --  Tex Winter, a Hall of Fame basketball coach and innovator of the triangle offense, died in Manhattan, Kansas.  He was 96.  He was a pole vaulter and basketball player at Oregon State in the early 1940s.  He met his wife Nancy at Oregon State.  Both entered the United States Navy in 1943.  Winter implemented his unique offense as an assistant coach with the Chicago Bulls and Los Angeles Lakers, helping them win several NBA crowns.



On the prep Volleyball courts last night, Summit beat McKay and Bend blanked Mt. View. In the 5A division, Hood River scored a 3-2 upset win at Crook County and Ridgeview blanked Redmond 3-zip to take over the IMC lead. And, Pleasant Hill escapes with a 3-2 win at La Pine.

 

Elsewhere, on the girl’s soccer field, Summit thrashed Sprague, 
9-to-nothing. The Storm boy’s were 4-zip winners.

 

Today, Madras girls hosts North Marion, and Sisters travels to Philomath. The boys play at opposite veneus.

(Renton, WA)  --  The Seahawks will practice at home today before heading to the airport.  They are flying to London ahead of Sunday's game against the Raiders at Wembley Stadium.  It's the first time Seattle will play a regular-season game overseas.  This is the Raiders' fourth trip to London.  They lost to the Patriots last year.



(Renton, WA)  --  Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll is getting advice from a former assistant on the team's trip to London.  He reached out to Chargers defensive coordinator Gus Bradley, who coached the Jaguars four times in London during his tenure.  Bradley told Carroll to make sure the distractions don't become overwhelming.



On the prep volleyball courts tonight with just two weeks remaining in the regular season, 8th ranked Summit hosts McKay. Mt. View greets Bend in a huge game for the Cougars who need a few wins to tie the Lava Bears for the 3rd and final league playoff spot.

(Portland, OR)  --  Forwards Evan Turner and Moe Harkless are nursing injuries as the Trail Blazers prepare for a preseason home game tomorrow night against the Suns.  Turner has a sore left shoulder and was held out of practice.  Harkless has left knee and right ankle issues, but did return to practice.  Neither played in Sunday's loss to the Jazz at the Moda Center.

(Lincoln, NE)  --  When Nebraska permitted running back Greg Bell his scholarship release, there were stipulations.  He is prohibited from transferring to any Big Ten school, future NU non-conference foes through 2021 and Oregon State.  Recent transfers in quarterback Tristan Gebbia, receiver Tyjon Lindsey and linebacker Avery Roberts wound up with the Beavers.  Bell was a highly-touted junior college recruit and started the first three Huskers games.



(Seattle, WA)  --  Seattle's would-be NHL ownership group is unveiling plans for a 70-million-dollar training facility near Northgate Mall.  The plan calls for three full-sized rinks and office space to serve as team headquarters.  Seattle's bid for an expansion franchise is expected to get final approval in December.



(Renton, WA)  --  The Seahawks are getting set to play in London this weekend.  They take on the Oakland Raiders Sunday at Wembley Stadium in the first of the NFL's International Games this season.  The Seahawks are 2-and-3 after this past Sunday's 33-31 loss to the Rams.  The Raiders are 1-and-4.



(Phoenix, AZ)  --  The Trail Blazers lost 123-112 to the Utah Jazz last night in a preseason game at the Moda Center.  Damian Lillard scored 23 points and C.J. McCollum 21 in the loss.  Jusuf Nurkic had 21 points, 11 rebounds and five blocks in the defeat.



(Sandy, UT)  --  The Timbers whipped Real [[ ray-AHL ]] Salt Lake 4-1 on Saturday in Sandy, Utah.  Portland is in fourth place in the MLS West with 51 points.  The top six teams qualify for the postseason.  The Timbers have two regular season games remaining.  Portland's next game is October 21st in a rematch with Real Salt Lake at Providence Park.



(Undated)  --  In area college football Saturday, Oregon State lost 56-37 to Washington State at Corvallis.  Portland State won 22-20 at Missouri on a 52-yard Cody Williams field goal with four seconds left.  That snapped a 10-game Vikings' road losing skid.  The 17th-ranked Oregon Ducks had the weekend off.



(Seattle, WA)  --  The Seahawks put up a season-high 190 rushing yards against the Rams on Sunday.  Chris Carson carried 19 times for 116 yards and Mike Davis added 68 yards and a score on the ground.  Right guard D.J. Fluker said after the game that they literally kicked the Rams' butt up front all day.



(Seattle, WA)  --  The Seahawks dropped a 33-31 slugfest to the Rams at CenturyLink Field.  Seattle took a 31-24 lead into the fourth quarter before LA rallied.  Russell Wilson threw three touchdown passes in defeat, including two to David Moore.  Seattle is 2-and-3 and will host the Raiders this Sunday.



(Seattle, WA)  --  Former SuperSonics star Kevin Durant scored 26 points in his return to Key Arena.  The current Warriors forward played 26 minutes in Golden State's 122-94 preseason win over the Kings on Friday night.  Durant spent one season in Seattle before the franchise relocated to Oklahoma City.



(Phoenix, AZ)  --  The Trail Blazers will meet the Suns tonight in Phoenix in a preseason game.  The Blazers lost their preseason opener.  The Blazers will play their final three exhibition games at the Moda Center in Portland, with the first one Sunday against the Jazz.

(Seattle, WA)  --  Golden State Warriors forward Kevin Durant believes Seattle deserves another shot at an NBA team.  In an interview with ESPN, the two-time champion said Seattle definitely deserves an NBA team and believes it will eventually happen.  Durant was selected second overall by the Seattle Supersonics in the 2007 NBA Draft.  The nine-time NBA All-Star will make his return to Key Arena tomorrow when the Warriors face the Kings in a preseason matchup.



(Renton, WA)  --  The Seahawks are filling some roster holes prior to Sunday's game against the undefeated Rams.  Seattle has signed veteran safeties Maurice Alexander and T.J. Green to replace Earl Thomas, who was placed on season-ending injured reserve.  The Seahawks also promoted tight end Darrell Daniels to the active roster one day after moving Will Dissly to IR.  Seattle is 2-and-2 after winning its last two.



(New York, NY)  --  Oregon is being accused as one of the universities potentially involved in the NCAA pay-for-play scandal.  Former Adidas executive Jim Gatto and his defense attorney Casey Donnelly stated that "Oregon offered an astronomical amount of money for the commitment of former five-star recruit Brian Bowen."  Gatto claims they only offered 100-thousand dollars to the former McDonald's All-American because Louisville coaches feared Oregon offered more.  The University of Oregon responded to the allegations and confirmed that there is currently no connection between the school and the scandal.

(New York, NY)  --  An NHL franchise in Seattle is getting closer to reality.  The league's executive committee voted 9-0 on Tuesday to move Seattle's expansion bid to a full board of governors vote, which will take place in December.  The 31-member board needs a three-quarters majority vote for expansion, but NHL commission Gary Bettman is confident that will get done.  KeyArena in Seattle has been approved for a 700-million-dollar renovation, granted that the NHL officially awards the city a team in December.



(Renton, WA)  --  The Earl Thomas era is over in Seattle.  The Seahawks placed the Pro Bowl safety on injured reserve Tuesday, ending his season.  Thomas held out for a new contract all offseason to no avail, and elected to return to the team with one year left on his deal.  He had three interceptions in four games before breaking his leg in Sunday's win over Arizona.  Seattle also placed tight end Will Dissly on IR with a patellar tendon injury.



(Renton, WA)  --  The Seahawks are gearing up for their matchup with the Rams on Sunday at CenturyLink Field.  Seattle has gone 2-and-2 so far this season, while Los Angeles enters the contest at 4-and-0.  The Seahawks look to avoid their first 2-and-3 start since 2015.



(Seattle, WA)  --  The NFL is suspending Seattle Seahawks linebacker Mychal Kendricks indefinitely.  Kendricks recently pleaded guilty to federal insider trading charges, which led to his release by the Cleveland Browns during training camp.  The Seahawks signed him to a deal last month and he has played three games for them, recording two sacks.  Kendricks will be sentenced to prison in January.



(Phoenix, AZ)  --  The Trail Blazers head to Phoenix to square off against the Suns on Friday.  Portland is coming off a 122-104 loss to the Raptors in its preseason opener.  Phoenix also came up short in its first preseason game, losing to the Kings 106-102 at Talking Stick Resort Arena. (Portland, OR)  --  Trail Blazers owner Paul Allen is battling cancer once again.  The 65-year-old has been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma for the second time in less than a decade.  Doctors have already began treatment for the disease.  Allen has owned the Blazers since 1988 and the Seahawks since 1997.



(Portland, OR)  --  The Timbers head to Sandy, Utah to battle Real Salt Lake on Saturday.  Portland is coming off a scoreless draw against FC Dallas, which marked its ninth tie of the season.  The Timbers are fourth in the MLS West with 48 points, which is two points ahead of sixth-place Real Salt Lake.



(Undated)  --  In local college football action, Oregon State will play host to Washington State on Saturday, while Portland State visits Montana. 18th-ranked Oregon is on a bye week.



(Renton, WA)  --  The Seahawks hit the practice field today to prepare for their matchup with the Rams on Sunday at home.  Seattle has won two straight and currently sit at second place behind Los Angeles in the NFC West at 2-and-2.  The Rams are one of two teams in the NFL who are undefeated at 4-and-0.



(Seattle, WA) --  The Mariners are parting ways with pitching coach Mel Stottlemyre.  Seattle manager Scott Servais announced yesterday that Stottlemyre will not be returning to the team next season.  The M's posted a 4.13 ERA, which was the seventh lowest in the league.  The 54-year-old pitching coach spent three years with Seattle.



(Undated)  --  In local college football action, 18th-ranked Oregon stomped Cal 42-24 in Berkley.  The Ducks improved to 4-and-1 on the season.

 

Elsewhere in college football, Oregon State was blasted by Arizona State 52-24 in Tempe and Portland State suffered a 20-7 loss to Idaho in Moscow. 



(Undated)  --  Alabama remains first and Georgia is now second in this week's Top-25 Coaches' Poll.  The Bulldogs and Ohio State both moved up a spot to second and third, respectively.  Clemson fell two spots to fourth after slipping past Syracuse 27-23.  Oklahoma is still sixth, while LSU, Notre Dame, West Virginia, Auburn and Washington round out the top-10.  Stanford dropped seven spots to 14th after losing 38-17 at Notre Dame.  Colorado and NC State jumped into the rankings this week.  They replace Mississippi State and Duke. 



(Vancouver, British Columbia) --  Myers Leonard led the way for the Trail Blazers with 14 points off the bench in their 122-104 loss to the Raptors in Vancouver.  Portland will continue preseason play against the Suns on Friday in Phoenix.  The Blazers are currently 0-and-1.

(Renton, WA)  --  Seahawks safety Earl Thomas is out indefinitely with a lower left leg fracture. The six-time Pro Bowler suffered the injury in last night's 20-17 win over the Cardinals.  Thomas suffered a similar season-ending injury to the same leg in 2016.



(Glendale, AZ)  --  Sebastian Janikowski drilled the game-winning 52-yard field goal as time expired to lift the Seahawks past the Cardinals 20-17 in Glendale. Mike Davis rushed for 101 yards and a pair of touchdowns to help Seattle pick up its second straight victory.  The Seahawks improved to 2-and-2 on the season.



(Seattle, WA)  --  Roenis Elias tossed five innings of scoreless ball to lead the Mariners past the Rangers 3-1 at Safeco Field.  Seattle improved its win total from a season ago by 11 games with a record of 89-and-73.  The M's will miss the playoffs for the 17th year in-a-row, which is the longest drought in U.S. professional sports.



(Seattle, WA)  --  Kevin Durant is returning to Seattle as the Warriors take on the Kings in a preseason matchup at Key Arena on Friday.  Durant spent his first season in Seattle as a member of the Supersonics.  Golden State is 0-and-1 so far during preseason play.
