US Faces Iran Tuesday In Final Group Stage Game

The United States is hoping to advance to the round of 16 at the World Cup today in Qatar.  After ending each of its first two games in a draw, the US needs to beat Iran in order to get out of the group stage.  The US is third in Group B with two points after playing Wales to a 2-2 draw and England to a scoreless draw.  Timothy Weah leads the team with one goal.  Iran is coming off a 2-0 win over Wales and has three points.  

Week 14 College Football Playoff Rankings Preview

The latest College Football Playoff rankings are set to be released tonight.  Some major changes are expected to take place after third-ranked Michigan took down Number-2 Ohio State over the weekend.  The Wolverines will likely jump to second, behind top-ranked Georgia, which remains undefeated.  TCU could also climb in the rankings after finishing the regular season 12-and-oh.  A new face could appear in the top-four after fifth-ranked LSU was upset by Texas A&M.  Number-6 USC could enter the Playoff after an impressive win over 15th-ranked Notre Dame.  Clemson and Oregon were also among the teams in the top-10 to be upset last weekend.

The Huskies extended their winning streak to three games.  Washington defeated Seattle U 77-66 in Seattle, behind 20 points from Keion Brooks Jr.  The Huskies return to the court on Thursday night when they visit the Beavers in Corvallis.  Oregon State is 3-and-4 on the season.  Oregon hosts Washington State on Thursday night in Eugene.  The Ducks come in 3-and-4 and the Cougars are 3-and-2.  12th-ranked Gonzaga plays Number-10 Baylor on Friday night in Sioux Falls.

Trail Blazers Host Clippers Tonight

The Trail Blazers are hoping to get back on track after a 1-and-3 road trip.  Portland hosts the Clippers tonight at the Moda Center.  The Blazers come off a 14-point loss to the Nets and have dropped five of their last six games.  Damian Lillard, Gary Payton the Second and Keon Johnson are all sidelined with injuries.  Portland sits 11-and-9 on the season, while Los Angeles comes in at 12-and-9.  

Summit Storm Claim 5A Title

The Summit Storm rallied to defeat Wilsonville 35-28 to claim the state title. After the Storm were down by 13 just 6 minutes into the game, Summit came roaring back to win the game. The rest of the state championships were decided this weekend as the 6A title went to West Linn and Westview claimed the Columbia Cup. Estacada is the 4A champion and Cascade Christian claimed the 3A crown.  Oakland is the 2A champ while Lost River and Spray won the 1A titles.

The Bulldogs bounced back with a win in the third place game of the Phil Knight Legacy.  Fifth-ranked Gonzaga beat Xavier 88-84 in Portland.  The Bulldogs improved to 5-and-2.  Oregon also got a win after beating Villanova 74-67 in Portland.  The Ducks improved to 3-and-4.  Oregon State had less luck, falling to Portland State 83-71 in Portland.  The Beavers dropped to 3-and-4.  

Beavers Upset Oregon; Dillingham to ASU

Ninth-ranked Oregon was unable to make the Pac-12 championship game after losing to Number-21 Oregon State 38-34 on Saturday in Corvallis.  The Beavers erased a 21-point deficit as they improved to 9-and-3.  The Ducks dropped to 9-and-3. Also, Phoenix product Kenny Dillingham is returning to Arizona State.  The 32-year-old has been named the new head football coach at ASU.  Dillingham replaces Herm Edwards, who was fired during this season.  He takes over a Sun Devils team that just finished 3-and-9 on the year.  Dillingham spent this season as the offensive coordinator at Oregon. 

Trail Blazers Fall To Nets

The Trail Blazers weren't able to stop Kevin Durant the Nets.  Portland fell 111-97 to Brooklyn at the Barclays Center.  The Blazers kept the game close until the fourth quarter, where they were outscored 27-to-17.  Jerami Grant led Portland with 29 points, five assists and four rebounds.  The Blazers' bench combined to score just 13 points as the team dropped to 11-and-9.  Portland hosts the Clippers tomorrow night.  
 

Winterhawks Collect Weekend Losses

On the ice, the Portland Winterhawks earned two weekend losses as they fell to Seattle on Friday 6-1, and lost to Vancouver 3-1 on Saturday. The Winterhawks will have another shot at Seattle on Wednesday in Portland.

Trail Blazers Visit Cavaliers Tonight

The Trail Blazers are battling Donovan Mitchell and the Cavaliers tonight.  Portland takes on Cleveland at the Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse.  The Blazers come off an eight-point loss to the Bucks and have dropped four of their last five games.  Damian Lillard, Gary Payton the Second and Keon Johnson are all out for tonight's game with injuries.  Portland sits at 10-and-7 on the season, while Cleveland comes in at 11-and-6. 

Washington Extends DeBoer Through 2028

The Huskies are extending their football head coach for years to come.  Washington announced Tuesday that Kalen DeBoer has agreed to a contract extension through the 2028 season.  DeBoer will get a one-million dollar raise in 2023 and his salary will rise 100-thousand dollars in each following year.  The Huskies have made a swift turnaround in DeBoer's first year at 9-and-2 this season after finishing last year 4-and-8.

Week 13 College Football Playoff Rankings

The top four teams are remaining the same in the latest edition of the College Football Playoff rankings.  Georgia is once again leading the nation as the number one team.  The Bulldogs are followed by Ohio State, Michigan and TCU.  These are the only undefeated teams remaining in the FBS.  Oregon climbed up three spots to Number-9 in the rankings.  Washington also made a jump as it sits 13th.  Oregon State rose to Number-21. 

Kraken Host Sharks Tonight

The Kraken are returning to the ice.  Seattle hosts the San Jose Sharks tonight at Climate Pledge Arena.  The Kraken come off a 3-2 overtime win over the Los Angeles Kings and have won three of their last five games.  Seattle sits third in the Pacific Division with 23 points and a 10-5-and-3 record.  Jordan Eberle leads the team with 15 points this season.  The Sharks come in at 7-11-and-3 on the season.

Summit Advances to Football State Title

The Bend Lava Bears fell to Wilsonville 23-14 to end their season. Meantime the top seed Summit Storm throttled Thurston 41-14 to earn a state championship game appearance where they will meet Wilsonville. The state title game will be played this Friday night in Hillsboro.

Ducks & Beavers Each Grab Wins Before Rivalry Week

Week 12 of the college football season is in the books.  12th-ranked Oregon defeated Number-10 Utah 20-17 on Saturday in Eugene.  The Ducks are looking to make the Pac-12 Championship game after USC already clinched a berth.  Number-23 Oregon State took care of business with a 31-7 win over Arizona State in Tempe.

Trail Blazers Visit Bucks Tonight; Damian Lillard To Be Re-Evaluated In 1-To-2 Weeks

The Blazers are hitting the road to face Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Bucks.  Portland visits Milwaukee tonight at the Fiserv Forum. The Trail Blazers are providing an update on the status of their star point guard.  Portland announced Sunday that Damian Lillard will be re-evaluated in 1-to-2 weeks after an MRI revealed a grade one strain to the soleus muscle in his right lower leg.

Winterhawks Keep Win Streak Going

The Portland Winterhawks picked up their eighth straight victory on Saturday when they beat Kamloops 3-2 in overtime. The Winterhawks are three games up on Seattle for first place in the Western Conference. They’ll return to the ice on Wednesday to visit the Everett Silvertips.

Winterhawks Pick Up Sixth Straight Win

The Portland Winterhawks picked up their 6th straight win last night as they defeated the Calgary Hitmen 4-1 on the home ice. The first-place Winterhawks will return to Veterans Memorial Coliseum Friday night to host the Everett Silvertips.

Trail Blazers Defeat Spurs

The Trail Blazers earned their 10th win of the season.  Portland defeated the Spurs 117-1110 at the Moda Center.  Jerami Grant led the way with 29 points and eight rebounds.  Grant shot 6-of-8 from three-point range and scored over 20 points for a fourth straight game.  Damian Lillard posted a double-double with 22 points and 11 assists.  The Blazers improved to 10-and-4 and host the Brooklyn Nets tomorrow night.  

Rolovich Files Lawsuit Against WSU, Gov. Inslee

The former head football coach at Washington State University is filing a lawsuit against the school, its athletic director, and Governor Jay Inslee.  Nick Rolovich claims his federal rights were violated when he was fired for refusing to get a COVID-19 vaccine.  The lawsuit says he refused the vaccination for religious and personal beliefs.  WSU says not following the state mandate gave them just cause to terminate Rolovich's contract.  The suit claims he should've been paid 60 percent of his two-million-dollar base salary for the remainder of his contract.

Oregon improved to 2-and-1 after beating Montana State 81-51 in Eugene.  Oregon State defeated Bushnell 83-66 in Corvallis.  Washington State suffered a 70-59 loss to Prairie View A&M in Texas.  The Cougars dropped to 1-and-2.  Washington returns tomorrow night when it hosts California Baptist in Seattle. The Bulldogs return to action tonight.  Second-ranked Gonzaga visits Number-11 Texas in Austin. 

Top Five Unchanged In Latest CFP Rankings

The top five teams in college football are remaining unchanged in the latest College Football Playoff rankings.  Georgia is still the top-ranked team in the nation followed by Ohio State, Michigan, TCU, and Tennessee.  Oregon fell six spots to number 12 after their loss to Washington over the weekend.  The Huskies shot up to 17th after being ranked number 25 last week.  Oregon State also climbed back into the rankings at number 23.

Winterhawks Host Calgary

The first-place Portland Winterhawks are back on the home ice tonight as they host the Calgary Hitmen. Portland is a blistering 13-1-1 and a game ahead of Seattle for the WHL's Western Conference. The action begins tonight at 7:00 pm.

Three Virginia Football Players Killed In Shooting

Three University of Virginia football players are dead after a shooting.  Lavel Davis Jr., Devin Chandler and D'Sean Perry were all killed yesterday by former football player Christopher Darnell Jones Jr., who has since been caught by police.  Two others were also injured in the shooting.  Jones has been charged with three counts of second degree murder and three counts of using a handgun in the commission of a felony.  The incident took place on a charter bus after students were retuning to campus from a field trip.

MLB Announces Rookie Of Year Awards

 Major League Baseball is announcing this year's Rookie of the Year awards.  Mariners outfielder Julio Rodriguez came out on top for the American League, beating out Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman and Guardians left fielder Steven Kwan.  Rodriguez became the fifth player in Seattle team history to win the award.  For the National League, Braves outfielder Michael Harris the Second took the award.  He bested Atlanta pitcher Spencer Strider and Cardinals third baseman Brendan Donovan.  

Summit & Bend Advance to Football Semifinals

The top seed Summit Storm beat Central 35-7. Meantime the 3rd seed Bend thumped South Albany 40-0. Each team advanced to the semifinal where Summit faces Thurston and Bend meets Wilsonville. In the 3A bracket, La Pine fell to Cascade Christian 49-6.

Huskies Upset Ducks. College Football Recap

Week 11 of the college football season is in the books.  Number-25 Washington upset sixth-ranked Oregon 37-24 on Saturday in Eugene.  Peyton Henry drilled the game-winning field goal with 51 seconds left.  Ben Gulbranson threw a pair of touchdowns as Oregon State crushed Cal 38-10 in Corvallis.  Washington State took down Arizona State 28-18 in Pullman.  Nakia Watson rushed for 116 yards and three scores in the victory.

Oakland A's Continue Push For Las Vegas Location

The General Manager of the Oakland Athletics says the team is continuing to push for a new stadium in the San Francisco Bay Area.  David Forst made that remark on Tuesday after recent comments from Major League Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred expressing doubts about whether a deal would get done there.  The A's are still looking for a new ballpark in Oakland or Las Vegas.  The city of Oakland missed a key deadline in October with the A's to finalize an agreement on the 12-billion-dollar Howard Terminal Project, which prompted Manfred's comments.

USMNT Announces WC Roster

The United States men's national soccer team is unveiling its 26-man roster for the upcoming World Cup in Qatar.  Attacker Christian Pulisic [[ pull-IH-SITCH ]] highlights the list of players, along with midfielders Weston McKennie and Gio Reyna.  The group will be the second-youngest U.S. roster at a World Cup, with an average age of less than 26 years old.  It's the team's first appearance since 2014 after failing to qualify in 2018.  The U.S. opens against Wales on November 21st, before facing England and Iran in Group B.

College football action continues this weekend.  Sixth-ranked Oregon hosts Number-25 Washington on Saturday night in Eugene.  The Ducks lead the Pac-12 conference at 8-and-1, while the Huskies come in at 7-and-2.  Oregon State is also at home as the Beavers welcome Cal to Corvallis on Saturday night.  Washington State returns home to host Arizona State on Saturday afternoon in Pullman.  

Trail Blazers Beat Hornets

The Trail Blazers handed the Hornets a sixth straight loss.  Portland beat Charlotte 105-95 at the Spectrum Center.  Damian Lillard scored a game-high 26 points and dished out seven assists.  Anfernee Simons chipped in with 19 points and rookie Shaedon Sharpe added 17 off the bench.  The Blazers took control in the second quarter as they improved to 8-and-3.  Portland visits the Pelicans tonight in New Orleans.  

Summit Boys & Girls Prepare for Soccer Semifinals

The top seed Summit boys host West Albany this afternoon at 3 pm in the semifinal. In the other 5A semifinal, McKay battles La Salle Prep. The two finalists meet in the championship match this Saturday at Hillsboro Stadium. For the girls, Summit welcomes Wilsonville. The other semifinal is between Crescent Valley and North Eugene.

Hart, Trail Blazers Beat Heat

Josh Hart drilled a three-pointer at the buzzer as the Trail Blazers beat the Heat 110-107 in Miami.  Hart was the hero with his game-winning shot and nearly had a triple-double with 12 points, nine rebounds and eight assists.  Damian Lillard scored 19 in his return from a calf injury.  Anfernee Simons also chipped in with 25 points for Portland, which improved to 7-and-3.  The Blazers visit the Hornets tomorrow night in Charlotte.

The college basketball season is underway.  Second-ranked Gonzaga crushed North Florida 104-63 in Spokane.  21st-ranked Oregon also collected a win after beating Florida A&M 80-45 in Eugene.  Oregon State hung on for a 73-70 victory over Tulsa in Corvallis and Washington defeated Weber State 69-52 in Seattle.  Washington State rounded out the action as the Cougars beat Texas State 83-61 in Pullman. 

Summit, Bend, La Pine Earn Football Quarterfinals

High school football playoffs from the weekend saw #1 Summit thrash Hood River Valley 42-6 and 3rd ranked Bend thumped Hillsboro 41-0. 11-seed Mountain View fell to South Albany 35-7. In the 4A tournament, Crook County lost to Henley 47-23. Sisters got blasted by 4-seed Banks in the 3A bracket 47-8. On Saturday La Pine beat Warrenton 38-19.

Ducks Blast Colorado

In college football Friday night the Oregon State Beavers lost to Washington 24-21. The Oregon Ducks blowout Colorado 49-10. Bo Nix passed for 274 yards and two touchdowns while also scoring twice with his legs.

Elsewhere in the PAC-12 Washington State trounced Stanford 52-15 while Utah swatted Arizona 45-20. USC downed Cal 41-35 and UCLA exploded for a 50-36 win over Arizona State.

Summit Boys & Girls Advance to Soccer Semifinals

The top-seed Summit boys blanked Wilsonville 3-0 to advance to the semifinal. On the girls side #1 Caldera was stunned by Crescent Valley 2-1. Meantime Summit downed La Salle Prep 2-1. Sisters fell to Amity 1-0. 
 

Bend Girls Fall in State Championship

The Bend Lava Bears fell in the state title match 3-0 to Crescent Valley. In the 3A Bracket Sisters won the third place match over Siuslaw 3-0.

Trailblazers Split Weekend Set with Suns

In the NBA over the weekend the Portland Trail Blazers split a back-to-back with the Phoenix Suns winning Friday 108-106 and losing Saturday 102-82. Portland is back in action this evening as they begin a four-game road trip in Miami. Tipoff is at 5:30.

High School Football Playoffs Kickoff This Weekend

The high school football playoffs begin tonight and in the 5A bracket #1 Summit welcomes Hood River Valley while 3rd-ranked Bend plays Hillsboro. 11-seed Mountain View battles South Albany, and in the 4A tournament 13-seed, Crook County meets Henley. In the 3A playoffs, 7-seed La Pine plays Warrenton and #13 Sisters visit Banks.

Beavers Battle Washington Tonight

Tonight the 23rd-ranked Oregon State Beavers visit the Washington Huskies. Kickoff is at 7:30 on ESPN 2. Tomorrow the #8 Oregon Ducks visit Colorado. Kickoff is at 12:30 with coverage beginning at 10:30 on 100.1 and 1110 KBND.

Elsewhere in the PAC-12 Stanford welcomes Washington State and 14th-ranked Utah hosts Arizona. Cal travels to southern California to take on the #9 Trojans. Finally, 12th ranked UCLA battles Arizona State.

The prep volleyball quarterfinals tipoff today as #4 Bend battles Silverton. In the 4A Brackett 8-seed, Crook County meets Marshfield and 3A’s top seed Sisters plays St Mary’s Medford.

Summit Boys & Girls Prepare for Soccer Quarterfinals

The high school soccer quarterfinals are this weekend and the top-ranked Summit boys host Wilsonville on Saturday. For the girls, the 3-seed Summit welcomes La Salle Prep at 2 pm and the first seed Caldera entertains Crescent Valley. The #5 Sisters girls visit Amity.

The Trail Blazers are facing a tough test as they hit the road.  Portland takes on the Suns tonight in Phoenix.  The Blazers come off a five-point loss to the Grizzlies and have dropped two of their last three games.  Anfernee Simons is listed questionable for tonight with some left foot inflammation.  Damian Lillard, Gary Payton the Second and Trendon Watford all remain sidelined with injuries.  Portland sits at 5-and-2 on the year.  

Caldera & Summit Girls Advance to Quarterfinals

In girl's soccer the number one seed Caldera blasted West Albany 5-0. 3rd seed Summit thrashed Hillsboro 6-0. 15th-ranked Mountain View fell to Thurston 4-0. Redmond also lost to North Eugene 3-0. In the small school bracket, 5th ranked Sisters shutout Lakeview 4-0. For the teams that advanced to Saturday's quarterfinals, Caldera hosts Crescent Valley and Summit welcomes La Salle Prep. Sisters visits Albany.  The boy’s quarterfinals also begin Saturday as top-seed summit plays Wilsonville.

Trail Blazers Fall To Grizzlies

The Trail Blazers weren't able to stop Ja Morant and the Grizzlies.  Portland fell 111-106 to Memphis at the Moda Center.  Anfernee Simons led the Blazers with 31 points and dished out eight assists.  Jerami Grant and Jusuf Nurkic chipped in with 23 points apiece.  Portland trailed by as many as 17 and never led in the game.  The Trail Blazers dropped to 5-and-2 and visit the Suns tomorrow night in Phoenix.  

Winterhawks Pick Up Loss

The Portland Winterhawks fell to the Prince George Cougars 5-4 in a shootout. The Winterhawks have tonight off before welcoming Seattle on Friday. The action begins there at 7:00 pm. 

Astros No-Hit Phillies To Tie World Series

The World Series is tied at two games apiece after the Astros no-hit the Phillies in Game Four Wednesday night in Philadelphia.  In the five-nothing win, Houston's pitchers combined to throw the first World Series no-hitter since 1956.  It's just the third postseason no-hitter in Major League Baseball history.  Game Five is set for Thursday in Philly.

Kraken Visit Wild Tonight

The Kraken are searching for a third straight win as they continue their road trip.  Seattle takes on the Minnesota Wild tonight in Saint Paul.  The Kraken come off a 5-4 win over the Calgary Flames and improved to 5-4-and-2 on the season.  Matty Beniers scored the game-winning goal with less than seven minutes left as the Kraken overcame a 4-2 deficit in the third period.  Seattle sits with 12 points on the year.  

Boys Soccer State Playoffs Resume Today

We begin with a look at high school soccer playoffs as the boys' teams from around the state embark on a state title run. Locally, the Summit boys are the #1 seed and host Corvallis at 4. 6-seed Bend welcomes Centennial and 7th-ranked Ridgeview plays Springfield. In the 4A bracket #4 Madras battles Newport and in the 3A tournament 16 seed Sisters challenges #1 Oregon Episcopal.

World Series Game Three Postponed

Game Three of the World Series is being postponed due to inclement weather.  It will now be played Tuesday night in Philadelphia with the series tied up at one game apiece.  Game Four will be Wednesday and Game Five is scheduled for Thursday.  If necessary, Games Six and Seven will be played in Houston on Saturday and Sunday.  The off-day, now Friday, will remain.  It's the first World Series game to be postponed since Game Six in 2011 between the St. Louis Cardinals and Texas Rangers.  

Local Cyclers Place Well at School Mountain Biking Championships

The Oregon Interscholastic Cycling League Mountain Bike State Championships were last weekend in Madras. Summit high school finished second at the event behind Corvallis. Bend high finished 13th. Summit also placed first overall in the Southern Conference before the state championships on Sunday.

Trail Blazers Host Grizzlies Tomorrow

The Trail Blazers are nearing their return to the court.  Portland hosts the Grizzlies tomorrow night at the Moda Center.  The Blazers come off a 14-point win over the Rockets and improved to 5-and-1 on the season.  Josh Hart entered the concussion protocol over the weekend.  Damian Lillard, Gary Payton the Second and Trendon Watford are all sidelined with injuries.  

Browns Take Down Bengals On Monday Night Football

Nick Chubb rushed for 101 yards and a pair of touchdowns as the Browns took down the Bengals 32-13 in a Halloween Monday night clash in Cleveland.  Chubb scared off Cincinnati's run defense and helped Cleveland take a commanding 25-0 lead in the third quarter.  The Browns fended off a comeback attempt by Cincinnati to improve to 3-and-5.  Jacoby Brissett accounted for a passing touchdown and a rushing score.  Joe Burrow threw a pair of TDs, but was also picked off in the losing effort.  The Bengals fell victim to the tricks as they dropped to 4-and-4.
