THERE'S JUST ONE HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL OR SOFTBALL TEAM FROM THE HIGH DESERT LEFT STANDING IN THE OSAA PREP STATE CHAMPIONSHIP PLAYOFFS, AND THEY ARE THE 2ND-RANKED LADY LAVA BEARS OF BEND HIGH SOFTBALL TEAM.

TODAY AT 4, BEND, 29-AND-1, PLAYS HOST TO #3 OREGON CITY IN THE 'CLASS 6A' SOFTBALL SEMIFINALS, AND A WIN BY THE LAVA BEARS WILL PUT THEM IN SATURDAY'S TITLE GAME AT OREGON STATE AGAINST THE WINNER OF TOP-RANKED TIGARD, AND MCNARY.

BEND DEFEATED MCMINNVILLE FRIDAY IN THE QUARTERFINALS, 13-3, AND HAVE OUTSCORE THEIR PLAYOFF OPPONENTS, 33-TO-5 HEADING IN TO TODAY'S GAME.

THE LAVA BEARS HAVE NEVER PLAYED FOR A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP. ONLY RIDGEVIEW AND CROOK COUNTY HAVE MADE IT TO THE TITLE GAME, AND THAT IN THE LAST 5-YEARS, AND THE RAVENS WON IT ALL IN 2019, BUT WERE BLANKED BY LEBANON, 10-ZIP FRIDAY IN THE '5A QUARTERFINALS.'

ESPN Adds CJ McCollum As Analyst

(Undated) -- ESPN is adding a current NBA player to its pool of on-air talent. The network announced Monday that former Trail Blazers guard CJ McCollum has been signed to a multiplatform deal. McCollum will make his ESPN analyst debut during Thursday's coverage of Game One of the NBA Finals. The 30-year-old will be part of "NBA Finals: Celebrating 75" which will air on ESPN2. McCollum graduated from Lehigh University with a journalism degree and is also the acting president of the NBA Players Association.

Mariners Start Road Series With Orioles

(Baltimore, MD) -- The Mariners are hoping to find some more success as they hit the road. Seattle takes on the Orioles this afternoon in Baltimore. The Mariners come off a series win over the Astros and have split their last six games. The club sends right-hander George Kirby to the mound for the series opener. Baltimore has yet to announce who will start opposite him. The M's sit fourth in the AL West at 20-and-28, while the Orioles enter at 21-and-29.

Oregon Lands Four-Star WR Ashton Cozart

(Undated) -- The Ducks are landing a top receiving recruit for their 2023 class. Four-star receiver Ashton Cozart announced Sunday that he was flipping his recruitment to Oregon after previously committing to play at Oklahoma. Cozart becomes the fifth player to join the Ducks' 2023 recruiting class and joins fellow receiver Jurrion Dickey, who also committed earlier this month. Cozart plays at Marcus High School in Flower Mound, Texas.

Nikola Jokic Wins Second Straight MVP

(Undated) -- The NBA is naming Nuggets center Nikola Jokic the winner of this year's league MVP award. This is the second consecutive MVP for the Denver big man. He finished in first place ahead of Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid and Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo. Jokic received 65 out of 100 first place votes and 875 total points. The 27-year-old is the 13th player in NBA history to win back-to-back MVPs.

AT&T Byron Nelson Preview

(McKinney, TX) -- The PGA Tour is in the Lone Star State for this weekend's AT&T Byron Nelson at TPC Craig Ranch. K.H. Lee is the defending champion after winning last year's tournament with a 25 under par. Lee will be joined by Jordan Spieth and Scottie Scheffler for the first round, which gets going on Thursday. Brooks Koepka will not be participating in the tournament after he withdrew from the event on Wednesday. The PGA Tour did not disclose the reason for Koepka's withdrawal. Harry Higgs, Kelly Kraft, and Wyndham Clark will be among the first group of players teeing off the tournament.

Lakers Receive Permission To Interview Kenny Atkinson

(Undated) -- The Lakers are being given permission by the Warriors to interview one of their assistant coaches. According to ESPN, Los Angeles will meet with Golden State assistant coach Kenny Atkinson for the franchise's head coaching job. Atkinson spent three-plus seasons as head coach of the Brooklyn Nets and is completing his first season as an assistant on Steve Kerr's staff. Atkinson has also emerged as a candidate in the Charlotte Hornets' search. The Lakers fired Frank Vogel after a 33-and-49 season left them out of the playoffs.

(Undated) -- The Grizzlies aren't going down without a big fight and Jrue Holiday is proving he might actually be the best defender on the planet in NBA Playoff action. Memphis led by as many as 55 before obliterating the Warriors 134-95 in Game Five in Memphis without Ja [[ JAH ]] Morant. The Warriors still lead the series 3-2. In Boston, Bucks guard Jrue Holiday stripped Defensive Player of the Year Marcus Smart in the waning seconds as Milwaukee defeated the Celtics 110-107 to take a 3-2 series lead. Tonight, the Suns look to close out the Mavericks in Dallas, and the Heat look to finish off the 76ers in Philadelphia.

Blazers Name Cronin General Manager

(Portland, OR) -- The Portland Trail Blazers are naming Joe Cronin as the organization's eleventh general manager. Cronin has been serving in an interim role since Neil Olshey was fired last year. Cronin has worked for the Blazers 16 years. He started as an intern and worked his way up through a variety of front office jobs. The team says he has extensive knowledge of the salary cap, proven management skills, and player contract expertise.

Nassir Little Has Abdominal Surgery

(Portland, OR) -- Portland Trail Blazers forward Nassir Little underwent surgery to repair a core muscle injury in his abdomen. The Blazers say the surgery was performed by Doctor William Meyers at the Vincera Institute in Philadelphia and it was successful. Little is expected to make a full recovery and it shouldn't impact his return to play timeline related to his February shoulder surgery.

(Seattle, WA) -- The Seattle Mariners managed just four hits in a 9-0 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies at T-Mobile Park. Chris Flexen was tagged with the loss after giving up six runs on nine hits in five innings. Mariners pitchers combined to allow 17 hits in the losing effort. Julio Rodriguez was the team's lone bright spot, as he went three-for-four with a double. Seattle falls to 13-and-17 and will send Robbie Ray to the mound against Philadelphia tonight.

Timbers Visit LAFC

(Los Angeles, CA) -- The Portland Timbers take on Los Angeles FC in the US Open Cup at Banc of California Stadium tonight. Portland is coming off a 1-1 draw against the New York Red Bulls on Saturday. The Timbers are in tenth place in the Western Conference with two wins, six draws, and three losses for 12 points. Tonight's match will start at 7:30PM.

(New York, NY) -- The 2022 NHL Draft Lottery is being held tonight. The league has new changes to the format that limits the number of slots a team can move up from their regular season standings. All clubs are now only eligible to move up 10 spots in the draft order, with the bottom 11 teams having a chance at the number one overall pick. The Montreal Canadiens have the best odds at obtaining the top pick at 18.5 percent. The Arizona Coyotes, Seattle Kraken, Philadelphia Flyers, and New Jersey Devils round out the rest of the bottom five teams from the regular season.
