COLLEGE FOOTBALL:

Oregon State is prepping for their home opener against 13^th-ranked Texas Tech Saturday.

Offensive Coordinator Mitch Dahlen told the media this week he liked most of the play from quarterback Braden Atkinson but the offense has room to improve.

“I didn't have on my bingo card that he was gonna run the first one in. I didn't, but, but it was good that he did, and I mean he made some plays and I mean overall as an offense we, we did some good things in the past game, but the run game has to improve. Like we gotta be able to run the ball. Running the ball 25 times for 26 yards is not acceptable.”

The Beavers’ defense is also prepping for a well-balanced Red Raider offensive attack.

In Eugene,

Oregon Head coach Dan Lanning talked about the matchup against Oklahoma State.

“You know, for us, obviously, when you're playing a team like this, it's a little bit different. So, you know, Coach Moore said it's about, for them, it's about establishing the run.So again, there's going to be limited opportunities when it comes to rushing the passer because it's going to be sideline to sideline. They'll screen, screen, screen, right? Try to run the ball, trick play, trick play. And then on defense, what they do with the simulated pressures and, and changeups makes it really difficult, but I thought overall, we had a good practice and attacked some things well today.”

Vikings To Play Three Texas Teams At Red Raider Classic

Portland State women's volleyball is preparing to face three Texas teams at the Red Raider Classic. The Vikings will open up the tournament this morning against Prairie View A&M. They will then go up against UTRGV later in the afternoon. The Vikings will wrap up the tournament on Friday against Texas Tech.

MLS: 2-2 Draw Between Timbers And St. Louis

It was a 2-2 draw at last night's game between the Portland Timbers and St. Louis. The Timbers are on the road to take on FC Dallas on Saturday. Kickoff is at 5:30 p.m.

Oregon Head coach Dan Lanning addressed the media this week talking about Saturday’s matchup at Oklahoma State.

“Got a ton of respect for, you know, Coach Morris and what we're about to face here at Oklahoma State. I know this will be his first home game there. I'm sure it'll be an unbelievable atmosphere. I've actually never coached there, but I know they, they do a really good job and it's really a new team, a lot of new faces in that program. I think they have, you know, over 90 new players in that program, so it's going to look a lot different than, you know, the last time we faced this team, and the first opportunity for us to travel on the road and, and see what we are able to do on the road”.

The U of O slid down to number 6 in this week’s Associated Press Poll.

Oregon State's Jesse Legree is the Pac-12 Conference's Freshman of the Week.

The wide receiver snagged five passes for 136 yards and a touchdown in his first collegiate game.

Punter AJ Winsor is one of the Ray Guy Award Ray's 8 for the first week of the season.

Winsor punted four times in the season opener at Houston, averaging 47.8 yards per punt.

Defensive coordinator Mike Macintyre highlighted Texas Tech’s offense during his media availability this week.

“They're an excellent football team.You see why they're, everybody's talking about them being one of the top 10 teams in the country or, or higher, and, I think they got ranked down because of their quarterback controversy everybody heard about, but the Hammond kids, he's excellent. They got other guys behind him. So I think if that wouldn't have happened, they would be a top 5 team ranked already talent wise on offense, they look like that to me.”

The Beavers are in Reser Stadium Saturday for a big game against another ranked opponent in Texas Tech.

The Seahawks Super Bowl rematch with the Patriots opens the NFL Season. Seattle will have their banner ceremony in front of the 12s ahead of the 5:20 kickoff against New England.

Oregon's Women's Golf Team Moves Into Second Place At ANNIKA Intercollegiate

Oregon's women's golf team moved up three spots into second place at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate in Minnesota. This came after all five Ducks shot par-or-better in the second round at Royal Golf Club yesterday. Oregon will tee off from hole number ten in the final round this morning.

Vikings To Play Three Texas Teams At Red Raider Classic

ANTHONY LAKES SKI AREA:

The Anthony Lakes Ski Area in northeast Oregon is getting a 650-thousand-dollar loan from the USDA to build a new rental shop. The 85-year-old ski resort is owned by the nonprofit Anthony Lakes Outdoor Recreation Association. The rental building is 70 years old and needs to be replaced. The money is coming from the USDA's Rural Economic Development Loan and Grant Program.

Reports say running back Jordan Davison was injured during practice and will miss four to six weeks.

This will put more pressure on Dierre Hill Jr to carry the football.

During Coach Dan Lanning’s media availability yesterday he was asked about his team’s readiness for Saturday’s game.

“I think you use every single minute, every single hour, every single day as opportunities to continue to prepare. So, we want to utilize that time, you know, we always say, hey, he's not in the barn here. We don't put it in the barn. We got to keep working until we get to that point. So, I feel good about where our team's at, but there's still more time and more reps to be able to steal.”

“We just gotta continue to display versatility in all three phases of the game. We cannot be stagnant. Our team needs to be able to show that they are capable of handling different things, throughout the game.”

As the Ducks prepare for the season opener an unusual occurrence happened yesterday. Neither head coach Dan Lanning or Boise State coach Spencer Danielson released their depth charts.

The Broncos reportedly made the decision after learning the U of O wouldn’t announce their starters and back-ups.

The move is pretty much par for the course for Lanning who typically keeps personnel information on a need-to-know-basis with the media and public.

NBA:

The Trail Blazers will not allow forward Deni Avdija to compete in the upcoming FIBA World Cup qualifiers for team Israel after suffering back discomfort toward the end of last season and Portland doesn’t want to take any chances with their All Star.

OREGON

Oregon football opens year five under head coach Dan Lanning at Autzen Stadium against Boise State. The Ducks enter 2026 ranked No. 2 in both major polls, their highest preseason mark ever. Oregon has gone 48-and-8 under Lanning, with double-digit wins in all four seasons. The Ducks beat now begin another run after back-to-back 13-win seasons. OREGON STATE

Former Oregon State running back Anthony Hankerson’s college future is uncertain as a Louisiana court considers a restraining order that could give former NFL players a fifth year of eligibility. Hankerson, recently waived by the Seahawks, entered the transfer portal last week. LSU has shown interest, while Beavers coach JaMarcus Shephard says Oregon State is also doing its “due diligence.” His next move hinges on the court ruling.

MARINERS

The Mariners' losing streak is up to five straight after they fell to the Red Sox 9-8 in 10 innings at Fenway Park.  The M's fell to 64-and-74 on the season.  The three-game set continues today.

TRAILBLAZERS

Portland Trail Blazers forward Deni Avdija says a lingering back injury kept him out of Israel’s FIBA World Cup qualifying games. After criticism following Israel’s elimination, Avdija said Portland would not risk his health and the decision was not his alone. He missed multiple games last season with back issues.  Blazers training camp opens September 29.

WNBA

The WNBA is off until mid-September for the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup.  The Storm have four players representing their countries including Dominique Malonga playing for France.  The Portland Fire will have six of their players in it including leading scorer Carla Leite, who will also play for France.
