The Lakers and Spurs could use the forward’s services, but his price is reportedly two first-round draft picks, and the Blazers are apparently not in a hurry to send Grant to a conference rival. Meanwhile the team held its first practices for Summer League over the weekend. Their first round choice Donovan Clingan had his first real run with the team, as the rookies and second year players get ready for the action in Vegas starting against San Antonio this Saturday. Point guard Scoot Henderson is not on the Summer League roster.

MLB:

The Mariners lost 5 to 4 in 10 innings to Toronto yesterday. Julio Rodríguez, was evaluated for a sore quad injury, but tests came out clear. He pinch hit in the 8th. Pitcher Logan Gilbert was named to the American League All-Star team for the first time. Seattle has a two game lead over the Astros, with the Padres in for a two game series starting tomorrow.

San Francisco’s rally came up short in Cleveland yesterday, falling 5 to 4, after giving up an early lead. Michael Conforto knocked in three including a 2-run homer. The Giants lost 2 of 3 against the Guardians, and dropped three games below .500. It’s back home tomorrow for a three game series with Toronto.

The Portland Timbers 4 to 1 victory over Nashville last night put them back into 5th place in the MLS West after the 4th of July loss to FC Dallas briefly dropped them into 7th.

Local:

The Elks finished the first half of the season at 16 and 11. Now they’re 3 and 0 to start out the second half after sweeping Yakima Valley over the weekend. Bend has won six straight with a series at Cowlitz starting tomorrow.

Area races tomorrow include the Tom Beamer Memorial Run 10k 5k and 2 mile in Madras…and the Sisters Red, White, and Blue 5K.

NBA:

Portland would deal Jerami Grant for a first round pick with few restrictions on draft position. That’s according to insiders who say the Lakers have been talking to the Blazers since Sunday about dealing for the forward. Grant’s agency is the same as LA’s Lebron James and Anthony Davis.

MLB:

The Mariners were shut out on only two hits against Baltimore last night. 3rd baseman Josh Rojas got both of the knocks from the bottom of the order. Pitcher George Kirby took the loss giving up both runs in 6.1 innings. The Astros lost too, so the Ms lead stays at 3 games.  First pitch against the Orioles tonight in Seattle is at 7:10.

San Francisco got solo home runs from the top three in the order to beat Atlanta 5 to 3 yesterday. Jorge Soler and LaMont Wade Jr. went back to back to tie it at 2 in the 5th The Braves went back to back in the 2nd. It’s the third time this season both teams have homered back to back or better. Heliot Ramos finished off the scoring in the 9th to add the insurance run. It makes a nice start for the road trip. Game two from Truist Park may be a little tougher against Atlanta’s stud Chris Sale who is 10 and 3 on the year. First Pitch is at 4:20.

The Portland Timbers are in 5th place in the MLS West with a 4th of July match against struggling FC Dallas. It starts at 5:30 tomorrow.

Trail Blazers Quiet Free Agency So Far...Elks On The Road

Local:

The Elks are on the road for a midweek series against Bellingham. Bend is 13 - 11 and in third place in the West Coast League south division while the Bells are 17 and 10 in third in the North. First pitch tonight is at 6:35.

NBA:

Portland introduced Center Donovan Clingan, their top, and only draft pick over the weekend. And the team hasn’t done much else as the Free Agency period opens. There are a few lukewarm rumors about the Lakers interested in Jerami Grant and the Pelicans taking a run at Deandre Ayton. One report I read is that Ayton is good with the team picking a Center and is willing to mentor Clingan. Although some Blazers fans may cringe at that idea. Justin Minaya will sign a two-way contract to return to the Portland Trail Blazers. That means he’ll also spend time on the Rip City Remix G-League team. Anfernee Simons could also be on the move for the right offer.

College Football:

Oregon State received commitments from a pair of 3-star DBs and a 3-star defensive end/tight end for their 2025 class.

MLB:

The Mariners welcome Adley Rutschman and Baltimore for a battle between the AL West and East division leaders. While the O’s have been surging the Ms have scuffled through the end of June losing 8 of 12. Their lead over Houston has been trimmed to 3 games. That has led to reports Seattle will be aggressive looking to add a bat to the line-up in the form of an everyday player ahead of the trade deadline at the end of the month. First pitch against the Orioles is at 6:40 tonight.

Although San Francisco is 11 games behind Los Angeles in the NL West, at 41 - 43 they are still very much in the Wild Card Race in this injury-decimated season. The Giants begin a weeklong road trip in Atlanta today. First Pitch is at 4:10.

Elks Handle NW All Stars...Ducks' FB Adds To Recruiting Class

MLB:

San Francisco marked a few firsts in the series win over the Dodgers. Yesterday’s 10 to 4 final gave them 22 total over the three games. The most ever scored at the ballpark they’ve played in since 2000. Yesterday’s 10 doubles were the most in a game since the team moved to San Francisco in 1958. And 30 year old rookie pitcher Spencer Bivens got a win in his first start for the team. He’s pitched in relief since being called up June 16th. A weeklong road trip starts in Atlanta tomorrow.

The Mariners dropped the series to the Twins, falling 5 to 3 yesterday. The bats stayed cold, as they only mustered 1 run Saturday, and just 3 runs in Friday’s win. That’s four straight series losses for the Ms, whose lead in the AL west is now just 3 and a half behind surging Houston…from T-Mobile Park is at 6:40. Adley Rutschman and the Baltimore Orioles are in Seattle to start a series tomorrow.

Soccer:

The Portland Thorns' scoreless draw with the Utah Royals kept them in 5th place on the NWSL table.

The Portland Timbers beat Minnesota 3 to 2 to move up to 5th place in the MLS West.

College Football:

Oregon State

Oregon made some big recruiting news over the weekend as they launched their 2025 class into a top 5 ranking with commitments from three 4-star high school seniors-to-be at running back, tight end, and defensive end. 5-star cornerback Dorian Brew announced his intention to come to Eugene yesterday, over offers from Texas and Ohio State among others. That makes the 14th commitment for the 2025 class. All 4-star or higher on 247sports composite rankings.
