Ducks Up in FB Polls

College Football:

Oregon moved up in the polls yesterday following Saturday’s 34-13 win over UCLA. The Associated Press bumped them from 8 to 6, and the coaches also have them at 6 now, up a notch from 7. The 4 - 0 Ducks probably have a few things they still want to work on after the rout of the Bruins, but it will be on a short week of practice as the next game is Friday night. Michigan State and former Beavers coach Jonathon Smith come to Eugene.  Hear more on the Oregon Ducks Insider daily podcast at KBND dot com.

MLB:

The Giants dropped the season finale series losing to St Louis yesterday. At 80 - 82, a disappointing season for San Francisco leaves plenty of offseason questions on the pitching staff and the everyday roster.

The Mariners finished off the season with a win against the A’s, who will no longer be from Oakland. The 6 to 4 win saw catcher Cal Raleigh homer for career number 93. That‘s the most by any catcher in their first four years. Missing the playoffs due to Seattle’s midseason collapse already led to manager and coaching changes. A roster shakeup is likely, but it is unlikely to be a big overhaul.

NFL:

San Francisco got its get-right game against New England yesterday winning 30 -13. The 49ers stopped the 2 game losing streak with a more complete game on both sides of the ball than they have been playing. Although injuries were again a concern for the 9ers. OSU is off this week, but the Beaver’s schedule keeps making the news. A report from the Oregonian reveals Wake Forest is being paid 750-thousand dollars to play in Corvallis next season. Ducks, Beavs Saturday Reactions...

College Football:

Oregon struggled to get past Idaho and will likely see a drop in rankings when they come out later today, likely a slide out of the top 5 in both the AP and Coaches poll. Much of the focus on Saturday’s lackluster win was on the offensive line that gave up four sacks after yielding just five all last season. Coach Dan Lanning said after the game the Vandals had good interior pressure and stopped Oregon’s run game. The Head coach also said Linebacker Jeffery Bassa was ok after not playing much in the second half.  The Ducks were favored to win by more than 40, with fans and pundits alike concerned about the 24 to 14 final. Boise State is in Eugene Saturday night. Get more on the Oregon Ducks Insider daily podcast on KBND dot com.

Oregon State started the way they wanted to by dismantling Idaho State Saturday. Coach Trent Bray praised his offense saying he was pleased with his team’s running game, and that quarterback Gevani McCoy made the plays he needed to make. Jabarri Johnson also saw some time running the offense. The Beavers travel to San Diego State this Saturday.

Oregon State and Washington State will not be playing the Mountain West Conference next season the conference announced yesterday. The Beavs and Cougs had agreed to play the conference’s teams this season with an option to play them again next season but the Mountain West has declined that option. That puts pressure on the two schools to fill a full FBS schedule in 2025 to maintain the Pac 12 conference’s NCAA eligibility rules.
