Oregon State is on the road at number 21 Texas Tech Saturday. There is much talk on social media and sports radio about the hot seat for Beavers head coach Trent Bray and various members of his coaching staff with the 0 - 2 start after OSU was favored to win both contests. The consensus as of today is Bray wouldn’t be fired if they lost to the 2 - 0 Red Raiders who are favored at home but some assistant coaches could have their last stop in Lubbock if an improvement isn’t obvious.

And a calendar note: Oregon State’s game at Oregon next Saturday the 20th has been scheduled for a 12:30 kickoff.

Ducks Move up

SPORTS 9-8-25

CFB:

Oregon moved up to number 4 in the Associated Press Poll and up to number 5 in the Coaches rankings after thrashing Oklahoma State Saturday 69 - 3. The Ducks beatdown was fueled by Cowboys head coach Mike Gundy’s comments earlier in the week regarding the U of O’s spending on the football program. Players after the game said they took Gundy’s trash-talk to heart, including quarterback Dante Moore who compared Gundy’s slamming the program and coach Dan Lanning as an attack on a family member. Moore also moved up in the odds to win the Heisman Trophy after his performance. The Ducks open the Big 10 Season Saturday at Northwestern.

Oregon State fell to 0 – 2 after losing to future Pac 12 opponent Fresno State Saturday in heart breaking fashion in the final minute of the game. OSU’s special teams unit struggled after the starting long-snapper was injured which led to six botched snaps.  One local note: Prineville’s Eddie Freauff, a redshirt freshman, caught his first career touchdown.

The Beavers are on the road at Texas Tech this Saturday.

NFL:

San Francisco pulled out a big road victory over Seattle yesterday 17 – 13. There is a lot of second-guessing and arm chair quarterbacking about coach Mike MacDonald’s decision to kick a field goal and play defense rather than go for it on a 4th and short call in the 4th quarter.

MLB:

Seattle crushed Atlanta 18 – 2 yesterday to take the series over the Braves. Cal Raleigh hit his 53rd homerun. The Mariners are 2.5 games behind the Astros, and 1.5 game ahead of Houston in the last wildcard spot.

Mariners Lose in Tampa

SPORTS 9-2-25

MLB:

Seattle lost a lead and went down in Tampa yesterday, 6 - 5. Cal Raleigh blasted his 51st home run in the defeat. The 14th in the last 16 road games. They have just a game and a half lead over the Rangers in the Wild Card and three games behind Houston for the AL West lead. The Mariners try to avoid the sweep against the Rays today starting at 4:35.

The Giants beat Colorado yesterday 7 - 4. The benches cleared and three players were ejected after a Rafael Devers home run seriously escalated from jawing to pushing and shoving before Devers even got to first base on the homer… in the first inning. That does not happen very often. The Giants go for the sweep of the Rockies in Denver today at 5:40.

They are likely to have a step up in competition this week, although injuries have hit Oklahoma State so the Cowboys may not be at full strength when they visit Autzen.
