Elks Win, Thorns Lose, Trail Blazers' Free Agency Moves

NBA: 

The Portland Trail Blazers have officially extended a qualifying offer to Matisse Thybulle, making him a restricted free agent. Cam Reddish will not get an offer, so he will be an unrestricted free agent. The free agency period begins Friday at 3 pm. There could be lots of news coming over the next 24 to 72 hours.

College Athletics: 

Oregon State infielder Travis Bazanna was named 3rd team All-America by Baseball America (.com) Wedneday. It’s the Australian sophomore’s 4th such honor of the season.

MLB:

The Mariners lost 4 to1 to Washington yesterday, dropping the series to the Nats and going 3 games under .500. It’s going to get tougher as Seattle welcomes the Tampa Bay Rays, the  American League’s top team to T-mobile Park for a weekend series starting tomorrow (Fr)

San Francisco lost to Toronto 6 to 1 yesterday, snapping the Giants 10 game road winning streak. They’ll try to bounce back and get the series win in game 3.  First pitch is at 4:07 today. The Giants remain in 2nd place in the NL West, a half game ahead of the Dodgers. 2 and half behind Arizona; as both teams also lost. Today marks game 81, half way through the season.

Soccer: 

The Portland Thorns lost their NWSL Challenge Cup match against OL Reign last night 1-0. The Thorns are now third in the group play and may not advance to the next stage. 

The U.S. Men’s National Team scored six goals and blanked St Kitts and Nevis in the group stage of the CONCACAF Gold Cup last night. The final group stage match is Sunday against Trinidad and Tobago.

NHL: 

The draft finishes today (Th). Last night the Seattle Kraken went with offense, choosing Czechoslavakian Left Wing Eduard Sale with the 20th overall pick. The Kraken have 9 more picks.

Local:

The Bend Elks scored 5 runs early and held on to beat Ridgefield 5 to 3 last night. The Elks can get the series win tonight before coming back to Bend for the weekend. First Pitch against the Raptors is at 6:35.

Elks Lose In 11th Inning, Blazers Focus On Free Agency

NBA: 

The Portland Trail Blazers are focusing on free agent help for Damian Lillard and their young core. One report says the Blazers will be in the mix for signing Golden State’s Draymond Green, although it’s a long shot as The Pistons and Kings actually have the salary cap space. Re-signing Jerami Grant is also a priority for Portland. The free agency period starts Friday at 3 pm.

College Football: 

Oregon State has a junior college wide receiver transfer joining the team.  Jailen Holmes, who was at a community college in Alabama will be in Corvallis later this summer…The Ducks could be getting a top high school running back commit next week for their 2024 class.

MLB:

San Francisco shut out Toronto yesterday in game 1 of the 3 game series against the Bluejays. Game 2  First pitch is at 4:07 today. The Giants remain in 2nd place in the NL West, a half game ahead of the Dodgers. 2 and half behind Arizona. Today is game number 80

The Mariners lost to the Nationals 7 to 4 in 11 innings last night.  Seattle goes for the series win in Game 3 against Washington today. First pitch is at 1:10.

Soccer: 

The Portland Thorns are getting ready for a group match in the NWSL Challenge cup against Seattle rival OL Reign tonight in Portland. The Thorns have a win and a draw so far in group play. The Match starts at 7:30

NHL: 

The draft is today and tomorrow. After getting to the Western Conference semifinals in their second season, the Seattle Kraken will have 10 picks starting with number 20 overall.

Local:

The Bend Elks lost 2 to 1 in 11 innings at Ridgefield last night. The first place Raptors are 15 and 6 while Bend fell back to 7 and 12 in the South Division, now 7 games back. The series continues tonight. First Pitch is at 6:35.

The Bend Summer Crit Series Bicycle Race is today at Pacific Crest Middle School. The first divisions start at 5. Final heats start at 7.

 

Lillard-Blazers Talk, Ms comeback, Elks at Ridgefield

NBA: 

The Portland Trail Blazers’ front office management met yesterday with Damian Lillard and his agent.  The discussions surrounded the Blazers' plans going forward. In a statement, General Manager Joe Cronin said the team is “committed to building a winner around Dame.” and that they had great dialogue …The NBA Free Agency signing period starts Friday. Portland begins Summer League play next Weekend starting on the 7th.

College Football:

Reports suggest that we could find out within the next few weeks about the Pac 12 Conference’s new media deal, and then a likely invitation could come to schools to expand the conference. San Diego State and Southern Methodist have been mentioned as possible additions. USC and UCLA will go to the Big Ten next summer. The universities of Oregon and Washington have been rumored to go to the Big Ten also. Or maybe the Big 12... A lot will depend on the Pac 12’s contract for TV rights as to where the Ducks and Huskies will be playing after the next few seasons.

Meanwhile Oregon State had another high school verbal commitment for the 2024 season yesterday. The Ducks could also land another one this week.

MLB:

The Mariners rallied from down 3 -1 to win 8 to 4 last night to beat the Nationals.  Seattle is now just a game under .500 and will try to get back to even with Game 2 of the series against Washington tonight. First pitch is at 6:40.

The Bend Elks are in Ridgefield for a series starting tonight. The Elks look for revenge against the Raptors after getting swept at Vince Genna Stadium this past weekend. Ridgefield is now in first place in the South Division with the Elks 6 games back. First Pitch is at 6:35 tonight.

NBA: 

The Portland Trail Blazers had their introductory press conference on Saturday for their 3 draft picks; 3rd pick Scoot Henderson will wear the number 00. 

MLB:

The Mariners lost 3 to 2 Baltimore yesterday and dropped the series. The team returns home after going 2 and 4 on the road trip last week and falling 2 games below .500 at 37 and 39. Tonight, the Nationals are in Seattle. First pitch is at 6:40. …Out Fielder Julio Rodríguez has announced he’ll be in the MLB Home Run Derby during the All Star Break.

Baltimore’s Adley Rutschman has advanced to the next phase of All Star voting. The former Oregon State catcher is one of the top 2 vote getters in the position. The All Star Game is in Seattle on July 11th.

San Francisco lost to Arizona yesterday, but won the series against the Diamondbacks, and they’re now 2 and half games behind them in the NL West. The Giants are on the road tomorrow in Toronto.

Soccer: 

The Portland Thorns are back in 1st place after the win against Washington. Sophia Smith netted a hat trick in the 4 - 2 win.  The Thorns have a group match in the NWSL Challenge cup against OL Reign on Wednesday night in Portland.

The Portland Timbers gave up a second half goal and settled for a draw with NYCFC Saturday night. The result dropped the Timbers down to 10th in the Western conference. The team looks to be picking up some defensive help with Miguel Araujo from Peru reportedly coming over to Portland in the summer transfer window via a Dutch professional team. That won’t be official until that signing period starts next week.

Local:

The Bend Elks got swept by Ridgefield after losing 8 to 3 yesterday. Next up the Elks travel to Ridgefield for a series starting Tuesday against the Raptors.

The Cascade Lakes Relay saw over 2 thousand people participate in the race from Diamond Lake Friday to Bend on Saturday. The top finishing team completed the 216.6 mile course in 22 hours 2 minutes.

The Oregon High Desert Storm beat Wenatchee 69 to 57 Saturday in Redmond to go to the American West Football Conference championship game. The Storm will take on the Idaho Horsemen in Nampa this Saturday, July 1st in the American West Bowl IV . 

 

 

Blazers Take Scoot, Elks Back In Bend, Cascade Lakes Relay

NBA: 

The Blazers selected guard Scoot Henderson from the G League Ignite team as the 3rd overall pick last night. Social media and traditional media were talking about the fan who showed up on the TV broadcast that had a custom Lillard Blazers’ jersey with Trade Dame on the name tag. Portland took Forward Kris Murray out of Iowa as the 23rd pick. Their second round pick is 19 year old Rayan Rupert from France who plays the wing,

College Football:

Oregon had a 4 star recruit at Safety commit to the Ducks for 2024. The Ducks' class for that season is ranked in the top 10. OSU has signed some recruits of late but they are ranked 66th in the country and 8th in the Pac 12 for 2024.

MLB:

San Francisco was blown out and shut out by San Diego yesterday losing 10 to nothing. The loss snapped their 10 game winning streak. Now the 2nd place Giants take on the 1st place Diamondbacks at Oracle park for a 3 game series starting tonight at 7:15 

The Mariners beat the Yankees 10 to 2 yesterday, as the Ms finally got the bats going. Rookie Bryan Woo picked up his first Win. Seattle is at Baltimore today to start a weekend series. First pitch is at 4:05.

The 2nd place Thorns play 1st place Washington tonight in Portland at 7:30.

Local:

The Bend Elks lost to Springfield last night, giving up the lead in the 8th inning to miss the sweep of the Drifters.  The Elks are back in Vince Genna Stadium tonight against Ridgefield. First Pitch is at 6:35.

The Cascade Lakes Relay starts in Diamond Lake today and finishes in Bend at Riverbend park tomorrow.

NBA Draft, Timbers Lose, Elks Win

NBA: 

The draft begins at 5 Thursday. The Blazers select 3rd and every basketball fan is curious what Portland will do with the pick. San Antonio will likely make their selection shortly after they go on the clock. Then Charlotte will take either Brandon Miller or Scoot Henderson number 2. Media reports say Portland is not taking any Damian Lillard trade offers. Lillard has said he doesn’t want inexperienced players as the 32 year old wants to make a run for a ring and they need veterans who can play defense. The Blazers also have the 23rd pick.

College Athletics:

Oregon State announced the 2023 Hall of Fame inductees. Former Athletic Director Bob DeCarolis, former Football Coach Mike Riley, the 2006 Softball College World Series team and the 2016 Women’s Basketball Final 4 team, along with 7 players will be enshrined during a ceremony this Fall.

MLB:

The Mariners lost to the Yankees again yesterday, 4 to 2. Luis Castillo fell to 4 and 6 on the season with the loss, as the Ms could only manage 4 hits. Seattle will try to salvage the series with Rookie Bryan Woo on the mound in game 3 today. First pitch is at 4:05.

San Francisco scored 4 runs in the 5th and that’s all they needed to beat San Diego who scored 2 runs late. That’s 10 in a row for the Giants! They’re 10 games above .500 and 2 and a half games behind Arizona. Game 4 of the 4 game series against the Padres is today at 12:45.

Soccer: 

The Portland Timbers lost to Chicago 2-1 at Providence Park last night. It’s the 8th loss of the year and drops them to 10th in the MLS Western Conference. 

Portland Thorns Crystal Dunn and Sophia Smith are on the US Women’s National Team roster for the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand starting next month.  The 2nd place Thorns play 1st place Washington tomorrow.

Local:

The Bend Elks went hitless through 3 innings but then broke out the bats to come back to beat Springfield 4 to 3 last night.  The Elks go for the series sweep tonight. First Pitch is at 6:35

NBA Draft tomorrow, Elks Win, Summer Crit Series Starts

NBA: 

Trade scenarios are flying around the Association with the Miami Heat’s Bam Adebayo one of the bigger names being talked about as part of a trade package involving the Blazers 3rd pick. Toronto may be a possibility in a deal, too. The draft is tomorrow (Th) night. San Antonio is a foregone conclusion to take French star Victor Wembanyama. Then the fireworks will start after whoever Charlotte picks at number 2.

MLB:

The Mariners lost 3 to 1 to the Yankees yesterday,...George Kirby took the loss. Seattle ran into the buzz saw that is pitcher Gerrit Cole who is now 8 and 1 on the season. Cole also wagged his finger at Mariners manager Scott Servais in the 7th inning after a verbal exchange with Servais and one of the Mariner’s batters. Today First Pitch is at 4:05. Luis Castillo takes the mound for the Ms.

San Francisco came back again last night to beat San Diego for their 9th win in a row! The Giants are now 2 and a half games behind Arizona in the NL West. Game 3 of the 4 game series against the Padres is tonight at 6:45.

Soccer: 

The Portland Timbers play Chicago tonight at 7:30 with a chance to get back into playoff contention. The Timbers are in 9th place just below the cutline. The Fire are near the bottom of the Eastern Conference having won only 3 games this season.

Trailblazers' Considerations, Timbers' Chara MLS XI, Elks At Springfield

NBA: 

In non-Damian Lillard Trailblazers’ news, reports say the team has a contract offer out to Jeremy Grant that he will likely sign. He has until the end of the month to decide. Portland is also reportedly shopping Jusuf Nurkic. The fan-favorite Bosnian Beast has been mentioned in trade talks the past few seasons. In Lillard news, sources say the Blazers haven’t had any offers for the 3rd pick that they like, and there were some talks with Toronto but have not yet gone anywhere. The draft is Thursday night.

MLB:

The Portland Timbers’ Diego Chara made the MLS Matchday 17 team for his efforts in Portland’s Draw with San Jose. The Timbers play Chicago tomorrow night.

Blazers' Draft Latest, College Football Recruiting, Elks Win

Golf: 

Wyndham Clark won the U.S. Open yesterday at Los Angeles Country Club holding off Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler for his first major, and only his second win on the tour. 

Soccer: 

The U.S. Men beat Canada in the CONCACAF Nations League Final in Las Vegas last night (SU). Team USA jumped out early and won 2 to nothing. 

The Portland Thorns beat Chicago yesterday to move into 2nd place in the NWSL.

The Portland Timbers played San Jose to a Draw Saturday. The tie put the Timbers a point behind Vancouver and out of playoff contention in the MLS Western Conference. [Portland plays Chicago Wednesday.]

College Football: 

Oregon had a receiver decommit for the 2024 team but did pick up a commitment from a top ranked Safety. The 4 star recruit had an official visit in Eugene this weekend. The Ducks Recruiting haul so far for 2024 has them ranked in the top 10 …In Corvallis, a 3 star cornerback/receiver has committed to Oregon State for 2024 after his visit this weekend.

NBA: 

An analyst reported over the weekend the Miami Heat are seriously considering working a trade for Damian Lillard. The draft is Thursday and the basketball world is focused on Portland and that 3rd overall pick. The Blazers also have the 23rd and 43rd picks.

MLB:

Seattle beat the White Sox 5 -1 yesterday with rookie Bryce Miller picking up his 5th win. The Ms took the series against Chicago and got back to .500 at 35 and 35. The Mariners head east to start a series against the Yankees starting tomorrow. 

San Francisco has overtaken the Dodgers for 2nd place in the NL West after getting the sweep in L- A. They’re riding a 7 game winning streak and 10 of their last 12. The Giants host San Diego tonight at 6:45

Local:

The Bend Elks beat Baum NorthWest 10 to 4 last night in a non-league game. Bend is 5 and 7, and in 3rd place in the Southern Division. The Elks are in Springfield tomorrow night to take on the 1st place Drifters.

Elks Lose in Corvallis, Beavers Football and Baseball, Central Oregon Big Race Weekend

College Football:

Oregon State landed 11 players on Phil Steele’s Preseason All Conference and 2 on the All American Teams. Punt Returner Anthony Gould made second string on Special Teams, and last year’s Pac 12 Offensive Player of the Year Damian Martinez at 4th team Running Back.

College Baseball:

Oregon State’s Travis Bazanna and Gavin Turley were named to All American Teams. Drew Cowley earned All American honors for the Ducks.

NBA:

The Trailblazers worked out 6 players yesterday, mostly guys scouted to go in the 2nd round. Portland holds the 43rd pick. Of course that 3rd pick is going to get a lot of talk by fans and media this weekend ahead of Thursday’s draft.

MLB:

San Francisco will try to overtake the Dodgers for 2nd place in the NL West starting tonight. The Giants have won 7 of their last 10. First pitch in LA is at 7:10 

Seattle hosts the White Sox starting tonight at 7:10. Chicago has not played well on the road this season. The Mariners are 33 and 34, nine games behind Texas.

Golf:

The 123rd U.S. Open round 2 is today at Los Angeles Country Club. Ricky Fowler and Xander Schauffele both shot 8 under 62s yesterday. A record score for a major championship round. 

Soccer: 

The U.S. Men beat Mexico 3 to nothing in a CONCACAF Nations League Semifinal in Las Vegas last night (Fri).  2 of the goals came from Christian Pulisic.  Team USA plays Canada in the Final on Sunday at 5:30

The Portland Thorns are in 3rd place in the NWSL facing Chicago on Sunday afternoon at 3.

The Portland Timbers are back above the playoff cut line in 8th place in MLS. They play San Jose tomorrow night at 7:30 

Local:

The Bend Elks lost to the Knights in Corvallis last night. They're back at it today for a doubleheader. Game 1 First pitch is at 1:05. Night cap at 6:35. Then the Elks come back home for non-league games this weekend.

NBA Draft Rumors, Elks On The Road, Pac Crest Endurance Fest Starts

NBA:

NBA insiders are suggesting New Orleans is willing to deal Zion Williamson and their 14th overall pick to move up to the 2nd or 3rd spot to draft Scoot Henderson. Trailblazers fans are definitely divided on the prospect of trading for the 2019 number one overall pick because of all of his injuries. Greg Oden wasn’t all that long ago. The draft is now one week away. Portland has the 3rd and 23rd picks in the 1st round. Yesterday they held a workout for Small Forward Cam Whitmore from Villanova. Damian Lillard also was in for the evaluation.

 

College Football:

Oregon State recently showed up in a report on teams with one of the more favorable Power 5 schedules this season. Which could help OSU in its effort for another 10 win season. The Beavers take on San Jose State on Sunday September 3rd in the season opener.

College Football guru Phil Steele has named 13 Oregon Ducks to his pre-season All-Conference teams, including Quarterback Bo Nix and Edge Rusher Brandon Corlus,who are also on the All-America list.

MLB:

The Mariners lost to Miami last night. The Marlins avoided the sweep but the Ms got the series win. Seattle hosts the White Sox starting tomorrow

San Francisco came back to beat St Louis 8 to 5 yesterday in 10 innings, getting the sweep of the Cardinals. The Giants are catching up to the Dodgers for 2nd place in the NL West. They start a big weekend series in Los Angeles tomorrow night. 

Golf:

The 123rd U.S. Open begins today at Los Angeles Country Club. It’s the first time since 1948 the Major has been played in the L.A. area.

VGK Clinches Cup, Elks Walk-off, Blazers' Draft

NHL:

Stanley Cup Final -The Golden Knights routed the Florida Panthers 9 to 3 in Game 5 last night winning Lord Stanley’s Cup in just the 6th season the franchise has existed. Vegas owner Bill Foley predicted before the NHL even awarded Sin City the expansion team that they would win in 6 years.

NBA:

The latest Draft rumors have no consensus on who the Trail Blazers might select with their 23rd and 43rd overall picks. Mock Drafts are seriously all over the place, although most pundits still believe Portland trades out of the 3rd spot for immediate veteran help to Damian Lillard. Portland may workout more players this week. There are also a whole lot of Damian Lillard trade scenarios cooked up by various media that are only kind of fun to think about but also can make a Blazers' fan nervous.

College Football: The U of O rounded out its 2027 non-conference schedule by inviting Eastern Washington to Eugene as the opening game September 4th. The Ducks beat the Eagles 70 to 14 last season. They first played the FCS school in 2015 winning the game, but getting scorched by future LA Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp. Oregon opens this season against E W’s Big Sky conference rival Portland State on September 2nd.

The Bend Elks had a walk off single to beat Northwest Star Academy 4 to 3 last night at Vince Genna stadium in a non-league matchup. The quick series wraps with game 2 tonight. First Pitch is at 6:35.

 

NBA Champion Nuggets, High Desert Storm Win, Elks Back Home

NBA:

Finals -  The Denver Nuggets are NBA Champions after beating Miami 94-89 in game 5 last night to win the series 4 to 1. It’s the first championship for the Nuggets. Nikola Jokic was named Finals MVP.

 

The latest NBA Draft rumors have the New Orleans Pelicans interested in Portland’s number 3 overall pick. 

NHL:

The Oregon High Desert Storm are one win away from the American West Football Conference Championship game. They came back to beat Wenatchee on Saturday. They play Wenatchee again next Saturday the 24th for a chance to go to the championship.

The Bend Elks are 4 and 5 in the West Coast League Southern Division. The Elks are back in Bend for a 2 game non-league series with Northwest Star Academy tonight and tomorrow. First pitch is at 6:35

The Pacific Crest Endurance Sports Festival is Thursday through Sunday with the Pilot Butte Challenge, Olympic & Sprint Distance Triathlon/Duathlon/AquaBike, Marathon, Half Marathon, & Kids Races.

The Redmond Half Marathon 10K and 5 K is Saturday.

Ducks Defeated In Super Regional, Elks Earn Road Series Win

College Baseball: 

The Oregon Ducks fell to Oral Roberts in game 3 yesterday in the NCAA Super Regional. It ends the season for the Ducks coming up just one win short of going to the College World Series.

MLB: 

San Francisco beat the Cubs yesterday but lost the series. Today the Giants are in St Louis. First pitch is at 4:45

The Mariners lost to the Angels yesterday, dropping the 3 game series. The Ms are back in Seattle to face the Marlins starting at 6:40 tonight. 

Soccer: 

The Portland Thorns lost to Orlando yesterday 3 to 1. It was just their 2nd loss of the season; knocking the Thorns down to 3rd place in the NWSL

The Portland Timbers got a 1 -0 win over FC Dallas last night, snapping a 4 game winless streak. The Timbers are back above the playoff cut line in 8th place in the MLS.

NBA:

Finals Game 5 -  Miami is trying to stay alive. The Nuggets will try to capture their first NBA title, leading 3 to1. Tip off in Denver is 5:30

NHL:

Stanley Cup Final -The Golden Knights will try to close out The Florida Panthers in Game 5 tomorrow in Vegas starting at 5

Basketball: A report this weekend says the Trail Blazers could package their 3rd pick in the Draft with Anfernee Simons for a top player to pair with Damian Lillard. Portland is expected to have more players in for evaluation work-outs.

Local:

The Bend Elks lost to Yakima Valley last night but did win the series with Wins on Friday and Saturday…The Elks are back home for a quick series with Northwest Star Academy tomorrow and Wednesday.

Ducks Start Super Regional, Blazers Draft Workouts, Elks On The Road

NHL:

Stanley Cup Final - The Florida Panthers beat the Golden Knights 3 to 2 in Overtime last night to get back into the series. Vegas has a 2-1 lead now with Game 4 in Miami tomorrow at 5.

NBA:

Finals are also 2 to 1. Game 4 is today in Miami with the Heat trying to even up the series. Denver, coming off some record setting individual performances, will try to take a commanding lead. Tip off is at 5:30

Basketball:

The Trail Blazers worked out 6 more players Thursday ahead of the Draft; now less than two weeks away. The group are 2nd round caliber including Malachi Smith from Gonzaga. Portland has not yet seen top prospect Brandon Miller but are expected to. A lot of reports have him going to Charlotte with the 2nd pick. The craziest rumor I've read today was the Clippers considering Paul George for the Blazers number 3 selection.

MLB: 

San Francisco beat Colorado yesterday to get the sweep. Now it’s back to Oracle Park for a weekend series against the Cubs; first pitch at 7:15 tonight.

Ace Pitchers face off in Anaheim: The Mariners with Luis Castillo take on Shohei Ohtani and the Angels tonight at 6:38.

Soccer: 

The Portland Thorns lead the NWSL with only 1 loss and a +14 goal differential. They play in Orlando Sunday afternoon at 4.

The Portland Timbers are currently out of playoff contention but will look to get things going against 4th place Dallas. It’s a Sunday night match in Portland starting at 7.

Nuggets 2-1 Lead, Seahawks Minicamp, Elks Win Series

NBA:
Finals Game 3 in Miami. The Nuggets held off The Heat to wrestle home court advantage back and take a 2-1 series lead. Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray both had 30 point triple doubles for Denver. That’s the first time that’s ever happened in NBA history. For Jokic it was the NBA Finals’ first 30 point 20 rebound 10 assist triple double finishing with 32 points, 21 rebounds, and 10 assists. Murray had 34, 10, and 10…  Game 4 is Friday
 
NHL:

Football: 
The Seattle Seahawks finish a mandatory minicamp today. Yesterday and Tuesday showed familiarity on offense with Geno Smith and the receiving corps, but there is room for who steps up at running back and the offensive line. There are questions on defense but bulked up Safety Jamal Adams could help out a young linebacker crew. The Seahawk first round draft picks are recovering from injuries but participating where they can. Only 2 of Seattle’s 10 draft picks remain unsigned.
 
MLB: 
San Francisco came back after being down early to beat Colorado. The Giants try to sweep the Rockies this afternoon at 12:10 then head back to Oracle Park for a weekend series against the Cubs starting tomorrow.
The Mariners split the 2 game series as they lost 10 - 3 to San Diego yesterday.  Seattle is off today but stays in Southern California where they’ll face Shohei Ohtani and the Angels for a weekend series starting tomorrow.
 
College Baseball: 
Oregon State pitcher Ben Ferrer and infielder Travis Bazzana have been named Academic All-Americans.

NBA:

Finals Game - 3 is today in Miami. The Heat and Nuggets are tied at a game apiece. Tip off is at 5:30

Draft news - a report says the Portland Trail Blazers are not willing to part with last year’s top pick Shaedon Sharpe as part of a package for the Blazer’s 3rd overall pick. The draft is on Thursday the 22nd. 

NHL:

Football:

The Seattle Seahawks held the first mandatory mini-camp yesterday. The team also announced they would be wearing 90s throwback uniforms against the Browns in October and celebrate the 10th anniversary of the 2013 Super Bowl team. Minicamp continues today and tomorrow.

MLB:  San Francisco 10-4’d Colorado. Game 2 in Denver is at 5:40

The Mariners edged San Diego 4-1.  Seattle will try to sweep the short series tonight. First Pitch at Petco Park at 6:40.

College Baseball:

The Oregon Ducks are playing in Eugene for the Super Regional this weekend. The best of 3 series is against Oral Roberts, the hottest team in college baseball. The Golden Eagles are riding a 21 game winning streak. First pitch is at 5 on Friday.

Soccer: 

Portland Thorns midfielder Crystall Dunn was named to the NWSL best 11 team for May. Dunn was also voted to the March/April squad. The first place Thorns are in Orlando Sunday afternoon.

June 5th report

NBA: Finals Game 2 - Miami came back to beat Denver and steal home court advantage by evening up the best of 7 series at a game a piece. It was the first loss at home for the Nuggets in this postseason…           Game 3 is Wednesday in Miami.

The Golden Knights took out the Panthers in Game 1 of the NHL Stanley Cup Final on Saturday. Game 2 in Vegas is today starting at 5 

MLB: 

The Mariners are going to be glad to get out of Texas after getting swept and giving up 30 runs to the Rangers in the three game series. With their loss they dropped a game below .500 to 29 and 30. 4th in the AL west… Seattle goes to San Diego tomorrow.

San Francisco is also 29 and 30. 3rd in the NL west. The Giants lost the series to Baltimore going down 8-3 yesterday.

College Baseball:

The Oregon Ducks beat Xavier 11-2 in the NCAA tournament Nashville Regional last night. That means the Ducks will likely host a Super Regional this week playing Oral Roberts. It will be Oregon’s first Super Regional appearance since 2012

Oregon State lost to LSU in the Baton Rouge regional yesterday after giving up a 3 run lead. In their 2nd game of the day against Sam Houston they beat the Bearkats; setting up a win or go home doubleheader today against LSU. The Beavers play the Tigers at 11 this morning, and if they win, they will play again later today.

Soccer: 

The Portland Timbers tied with Seattle. The draw against the 2nd place team in the MLS Western Conference dropped the Timbers just out of playoff contention. 

Portland Thorns beat OL Reign on Saturday with the win putting the Thorns at the top of the NWSL Standings.

Locally-

The Bend Elks dropped their season opening series against Wenatchee, getting swept by the Applesox. Port Angeles is in town tonight at Vince Genna Stadium for a three game series.. First Pitch is at 6:35.

The Oregon High Desert Storm indoor football team won 67 to 14 over the Idaho Warhawks on Saturday.

NBA: Finals Game 1 - Denver looked well rested and showed no signs of rust in routing the Heat last night. Miami may have been exhausted from the 7 game series against Boston…and struggling at elevation.  The Nuggets won by 11 but it really wasn’t that close. Nikola Jokic joins Jason Kidd as the only other player to ever have a triple-double in his Finals debut. Game 2 is Sunday at 5.

Miami’s hockey team is in the NHL Stanley Cup Final. The Golden Knights are favored over the Panthers. Vegas has home ice advantage in the 7 game series against Florida. Game 1 puck drops at 5 Saturday

MLB: 

The Giants welcome Adley Rutschman and the Baltimore Orioles for a 3 game series starting tonight at 7:15.

The Mariners are in Texas to face the Rangers tonight at 5 to begin an 8 game road trip. Yesterday Seattle called up Mike Ford from Tacoma for his 3rd go around with the Ms. Taylor Trammell was optioned back to the AAA squad.

College Baseball:

All American shortstop Drew Cowley and The Oregon Ducks play Xavier in the NCAA tournament Nashville Regional this morning at 10. 

Vanderbilt is the host number one seed. The U of O is seeded 2nd.

Number 2 seed Oregon State and their All American Second Baseman Travis Bazzana take on 3 seed Sam Houston in the Baton Rouge regional where LSU is the number one seed. 

The Beavers’ First Pitch against the Bearkats is at 5 today.

The Portland Timbers are right at the playoff cut line sitting at 9th in the MLS Western Conference with a big Cascadia Cup Match against Seattle Saturday at 1:30 in Portland.

The Bend Elks season begins tonight at Vince Genna Stadium with a three game series against Wenatchee. This season the West Coast League Umpires will manage a 20-second “action clock”. There’s also a two-minute time limit between innings. The new Pace of Play rules are what NCAA baseball uses. Elks against Applesox First Pitch is at 6:35.
