Lava Bears State Softball Saturday...Beavers & Ducks NCAA Regionals Begin

Local: 

The Bend Elks are back. The West Coast League season starts against the Walla Walla Sweets at Vince Genna Stadium with a series through Sunday. First Pitch tonight is at 6:35.

The Dirty half marathon is tomorrow in Bend

State Softball 5A Finals tomorrow - Bend Senior High plays in Eugene against Lebanon starting at 3. 

College Baseball:

NCAA Tournament Regionals begin today.

The Ducks are looking to get back to their second straight Super Regional; after winning in Nashville last year they will try to take Santa Barbara this year. Three-seed Oregon opens up the tourney against number two San Diego at noon today. The game will be carried on TV on ESPNU.

Oregon State is the Number 1 seed at the Corvallis Regional and will host Number 2 UC Irvine, Number 3 Nicholls State, and Number 4 Tulane. The Beavers, the number 15 overall seed in the tournament, play Tulane tonight starting at 6 from Goss Stadium.

It’s a two-loss elimination tournament with the winner going to the semi-finals tomorrow. The loser has to play an elimination game tomorrow and hope to keep playing. The final is set for Sunday night, or Monday if needed.

MLB: 

The Mariners will try to build on their AL West lead when they start a series with the scuffling LA Angels. They couldn’t complete the sweep against the Astros yesterday, getting shutout 4 - 0. First pitch against Los Angeles is at 7:10.

The Giants welcome the AL East leading Yankees to San Francisco for a series starting tonightat 7:15.

Soccer:

The Portland Timbers coming off the big win in Austin Wednesday are back home tomorrow against Houston at 7:30.

College Football: 

We now know game times and TV networks for five more Oregon State games including the September 14th meeting with Oregon on FOX. That network will also have the Boise State game in November. Three others against Mountain West Conference teams are on the CBS Sports Network.

The Big Ten announced Oregon will open its season on the conference’s  TV Network against Idaho on August 31st. Just three months from today! Then the Ducks will be on the Peacock streaming service for their Boise State game September 7th.

MLB: 

The Giants couldn’t get the sweep, falling 6 to 1 to Philadelphia yesterday. Kyle Harrison gave up 12 hits and allowed 4 runs in five innings. The Giants bats were quite most of the game, scoring their only run in the bottom of the 9th. The Yankees come to San Francisco for a series starting tomorrow. The Giants have won 7 of their last 10 and are a game above .500.

The Mariners got by the Astros 2 to 1 in 10 innings last night. A JP Crawford sacrifice fly won the game and the series for the Ms. It was a duel between Seattle starter George Kirby and Houston ace Justin Verlander, both pitchers went deep into the game, each allowing a run.  Game four of the series is this afternoon in Seattle. First pitch is 1:10.

Soccer:

The Portland Timbers shut out Austin FC yesterday. Evander scored just before half and Jonathan Rodriguez scored on a penalty in the 66th minute to add a second goal. That’s a big 3 points in the standings with the win, jumping up to 8th place in the Western Conference. Austin dropped to 6th. It was just the second road victory of the season for the Timbers who are back home on Saturday against Houston.

 

College Softball:  Oregon’s Paige Sinicki was named the 2024 Rawlings Gold Glove award winner at shortstop on Wednesday. The junior is the first player in Oregon softball history to win a Gold Glove. Sinicki was the Pac 12 Co Defensive Player of the Year

College Baseball:

The Ducks have made it to four straight regionals. The second time that’s happened since 2012 through 2015. Oregon is the three seed opening against number two San Diego tomorrow at noon. 

Oregon State, top seed in the Corvallis regional, has been bumped up to ESPN 2 from ESPNU. The Beavers play Tulane tomorrow night starting at 6.

OSU Sells Out Corvallis Regional In Hours...Bend Into Softball Final

MLB: 

The Mariners rallied late to take out the Astros 4 to 2 last night thanks to a Julio Rodriguez go-ahead rbi single in the 8th inning. Taylor Saucedo earned the win for the Ms. Starter Luis Castillo gave up 2 runs with 6 strikeouts in six innings but was let off the hook thanks to the late comeback. Game three of the four-game series is tonight in Seattle. First pitch is 6:40.

The Giants had a sac-fly walk off in the tenth inning to win 1 - 0 over Philadelphia last night. The win gives San Francisco the series and pulls them two games over .500. The series finale is today at 12:45.

NFL:

Organized Team Activities resume this week. 

 The 49ers have had a lot of turnover on the defensive line. Reports say End Nick Bosa is helping show the new guys the process. The former Defensive player of the year has also said last season was not up to his playing standard and he wants to focus better this season. Due to COVID, injury, and a contract hold-out Bosa hasn’t been at many OTAs the past few years.

The Seahawks are slowly installing new defensive schemes according to head coach Mike Macdonald, who also praised cornerback Riq Woolen who appears to be fully recovered from last season’s surgery and other assorted injuries. Quarterback Sam Howell is solidifying his spot as backup to Geno Smith.

College Baseball:

Oregon State fans sold out the Corvallis regional games this weekend…in just three hours after they went on sale. The Beavers play Tulane Friday night at 6.. 

The Ducks are hoping for a return to the Super Regional via a road win just like in Nashville last season. Oregon plays San Diego on Friday at noon. 

Soccer:

The Portland Timbers are in Texas to take on Austin FC today. Austin is 5th in the Western conference with 22 points compared to the Timbers 16 which has Portland in 10th place, currently out of playoff contention. Match starts at 5:30.

Local: 

High school State tournaments - Softball, 5A Semifinals - 2 seed Bend shutout 3 seed Silverton yesterday to advance to the final Saturday in Eugene against 4 seed Lebanon. 

5A Baseball Semifinals. Summit and Ridgeview won’t advance.  West Albany will take on Thurston in the final.

College Baseball tourney time: regionals games were announced yesterday

Oregon State is the Number 1 seed at the Corvallis Regional and will host No. 2 UC Irvine, No. 3 Nicholls State and No. 4 Tulane. The Beavers start with Tulane Friday night as the number 15 overall seed in the tournament. OSU is 7th in the Coaches Poll, 8th in the Writers’ and Perfect Game polls, only sliding a little if not at all after going 1 and 1 in pool play in last week’s Pac 12 tournament. 

The Ducks have now made it to four consecutive postseasons. Oregon travels to Santa Barbara for UC S-B’s regional and will face San Diego on Friday afternoon. They advanced to a super regional last season. The U of O fell out of the polls after not getting out of the Pac 12 tourney first round.

MLB: 

The Giants beat Philadelphia 8 to 4 yesterday with the bottom of the line-up accounting for 6 of those runs. Starting pitcher Blake Snell gave up 3 runs in the no-decision and is still looking for his first win as a Giant. San Francisco takes on the NL East leaders again tonight in game two of the series starting at 6:45.

The Mariners held off the Astros 3 to 2 last night after doing all their scoring in the first inning. That was all starter Bryce Miller needed to pick up his 4th win of the season going six innings. The MS stretched the AL West lead to 3 and a half games over Texas and 4 and a half over Houston. Game two of the series is tonight. First pitch is 6:40.

NBA:

The sports world mourns the passing of Bill Walton, who died of cancer at the age of 71 it was announced yesterday. Walton was the Trail Blazers Number 1 overall pick in the 1974 NBA Draft and played his first five NBA seasons in Portland winning the championship in 1977 and being named league and finals MVP. As a broadcaster Walton was an advocate for the conference of champions calling many Pac 12 games with Ducks games in Eugene always being a special experience for him. 

Local: 

In the State Tennis Championships the Summit boys are 2nd in 5A with Caldera taking 4th. The Summit Girls took 3rd with the Redmond Girls taking 4th.

High school State tournaments today - Softball, 5A Semifinals - 2 seed Bend hosts 3 seed Silverton today at 4:30. 

5A Baseball Semifinals. 8th seed Summit is still alive and travels to take on 4 seed West Albany, 3 seed Ridgeview is at 2 seed Thurston.

College Baseball: 

Oregon State came back to win 3 to 2 over Arizona State yesterday. However, Arizona lost to Cal so OSU won’t move on to the semi-finals.

Oregon lost to USC 4 to 2 yesterday to get knocked out of the tournament.

Both the Beavers and Ducks will find out on Monday where they play in the NCAA regionals .

MLB: 

The Giants won 7 to 6 yesterday scoring 5 runs on 5 hits in the 8th inning in another comeback victory. A weekend series with the Mets starts today. First pitch from New York is at 4:10.

The Mariners are leaving New York with a split series after getting shut out by the Yankees yesterday. The Ms move on to Washington DC today. First pitch against the Nationals is at 3:45.

NBA:

Portland held pre-draft workouts with six players yesterday including potential first rounders Adem Bona from UCLA and Cal’s Jaylon Tyson. The Trail Blazers will have the 7th and 14th picks in the first round, and then 34th, and 40th in the second round in next month’s Draft.

Soccer:

The Portland Thorns take their 6 match win streak to Orlando today at 4.

The Portland Timbers have Sporting KC tomorrow at 7:30.

Pac 12 Tourney: Beavers, Ducks Both Upset

College Baseball: 

Oregon State was upset 2 to 1 by Stanford in the Pac 12 tournament pool stage opener. The Beavers are playing again this morning against Arizona State. They need to beat the Sun Devils and have Arizona win its pool in order to advance to the semi-finals tomorrow. Stanford has now punched their ticket. OSU’s first pitch against ASU is at 10 AM from Scottsdale, Arizona

Oregon lost 4 to 2 to Utah yesterday. The Ducks need to beat USC today to advance. First pitch at 2:30. 

MLB: 

The Mariners lost 7 to 3 to the Yankees yesterday. Seattle scored on a three-run Cal Raleigh homer in the 8th to make the game respectable but otherwise didn’t do much.The 4 game series finishes today with the Ms going for the series win. First pitch is at 9:35 this morning.

The Giants beat Pittsburgh 9 to 5 in 10 innings yesterday. San Francisco was down 5 to nothing and tied the game late scoring a run in both the 8th and 9th innings. The rubber match against the Pirates and rookie pitching phenom Paul Skenes is this morning starting at 9:35.

NFL:

The Seahawks preseason schedule has been released. Seattle will face one of the most talked about teams this offseason. That’s Coach Jim Harbaugh and the Los Angeles Chargers. The game is Saturday August 10th.

College Football: 

Some schedule news: Oregon’s game at home vs. Michigan State and former Beaver head coach Jonathon Smith and a road contest at Purdue have been moved to Friday nights on FOX TV. 

Local: 

Baseball Class 3A state playoffs, Sisters and La Pine advance to the quarterfinals. That starts tomorrow.

Pac 12 Baseball Tourney Starts...All Pac 12 Teams Announced

MLB: 

The Giants let a four-run ninth inning lead slip away and lost 7 to 6 in 10 innings in Pittsburgh yesterday. San Francisco snapped a 4 game win streak. Game 2 of the three-game set with the Pirates is today. First pitch is at 3:40.

The Mariners surprised the Yankees again winning 6 to 3 yesterday. Bryan Woo struck out 7 in six shutout innings giving up only 2 hits. 2B Dylan Moore homered twice with 4 RBI. Game 3 of the 4 game series starts this afternoon at 4:05.

College Baseball: 

Oregon State is ranked in the top 10 of all the major polls and has World Series aspirations, but winning the Pac 12 tournament in the last year of its short existence would be a good start to the postseason.
The Beavers are the number two seed playing Stanford this morning and Arizona State tomorrow morning. First pitch is at 10 AM from Scottsdale, Arizona.

Number 20 Oregon is the three seed playing Utah this afternoon at 2:30 and USC tomorrow in the first round pool play. Semi-finals start Friday. 

Individual honors were handed out by the Pac 12 yesterday, nine Oregon players were named to the All-Pac-12 Conference team including Freshman Maddox Molony to the first-team.

OSU junior infielder Travis Bazzana is the Pac-12 Player of the Year. He’s the seventh Beaver to receive the honor, which started with Madras’ Jacoby Elsbury in 2005. Three other Beavers join Bazanna on the All Conference first team; 10 total players were recognized.

Local:

Bazanna Golden Spikes Semifinalist...OSU, UO Baseball Poll Rankings

MLB: 

The Mariners rallied with four runs in the 9th to stun the Yankees 5 to 4 yesterday. Game 2 of the 4 game series starts this afternoon at 4:05.

The Giants begin a week-long road trip in Pittsburgh today. San Francisco comes in at 23 and 25 in what looks to be a fair matchup on paper against the 22 and 26 Pirates. Both are 3rd place in their divisions. First pitch is at 3:40.

College Baseball: 

Oregon State junior Travis Bazzana has been named one of 25 semifinalists for the USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award, given annually to the nation's top amateur baseball player. The second baseman had a .429 batting average and 26 home runs in the regular season. 

Junior Jacob Kmatz has been named the Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week for his four hit, one earned-run, eight strikeout performance against Arizona Friday night.
The Beavers stayed at the number 4 spot in the Perfect Game rankings. 6th in the D1 baseball dot com, and Baseball America poll, 7th in the coaches, writers

OSU will be the two seed in the Pac 12 tournament, playing Stanford tomorrow morning and Arizona on Thursday [at 10 AM] in pool play. Semifinals start Friday.

Oregon comes in at Number 20 in the Baseball America poll, 22nd in the Writer’s poll, and 23rd in D1 baseball dot com and the coaches. The Ducks will play Utah tomorrow afternoon [at 2:30] and USC Thursday in the conference tourney.

NFL:

QB Geno Smith, Wide Receiver DK Metcalf, and the Seattle Seahawks opened the first of Organized Team Activities yesterday.

In San Francisco, there are reports the 49ers and Wide Receiver Brandon Aiyuk haven’t made much progress on a contract deal.

Local: 

High school State tournaments this afternoon have the First round of the 5A State Baseball playoffs. Number 8 Summit welcomes Number 9 Crater,  number 3  Ridgeview hosts  14 seed Corvallis, Number 11 Bend is at the 6, Wilsonville, 7th seeded Mountain View is home against number 10 Ashland; Class 4 A, number 8 Crook County has the 9 North Bend in Prineville.

Softball 5A, 5th seed No. 5 Caldera hosts number 12 Thurston, Number 14 Ridgeview is at the 3 Silverton, Number 2 Bend hosts No. 15 Central.

 4A, 9 seed Crook County is at the 8th Cascade.

Summit Girls, Boys State Track Champs

College Softball:

Oregon was edged by Oklahoma 3 to 2 yesterday in the NCAA tournament regional in Norman Oklahoma. It was a tough tourney draw for the Ducks facing the number 2 ranked team in the country. The U of O finishes a strong final season in the Pac 12 at 30 and 21.

College Baseball: 

Number 6 Oregon State will be the two seed in the Pac 12 tournament after losing to number 21 Arizona Saturday night keeping the Beavers from taking the final Pac 12 regular season conference crown.  OSU will play Stanford and Arizona on Wednesday and Thursday [at 10 AM] in pool play. Semifinals start Friday.

Number 20 Oregon swept Washington State over the weekend to earn the three seed in the tournament. The Ducks will play Utah Wednesday and USC Thursday.

MLB: 

The Mariners fell 6 to 3 in Baltimore yesterday, losing the series to the Orioles and dropping to 3 games above .500 with a game and half lead over the Rangers for first place in the division. Today, the Ms are in New York. Their four-game series against the AL East-leading Yankees starts this afternoon at 4:05.

San Francisco beat the Rockies 4 to 1 yesterday to get the sweep. The injury-depleted Giants have won 6 of their last 10. The Giants head east for a week-long road trip, starting in Pittsburgh tomorrow. 

Soccer:

The Portland Thorns beat Houston to run their win streak to five.

Local: 

Track and field: The Summit Girls and Boys have won another state 5A title. The Crook County Boys won the 4A Title. There were several student athletes across all area high schools who won titles or made the podium.

Ducks Softball NCAA Regionals...Ducks, Beavs Baseball Win Series' Openers

College Baseball: 

Number 6 Oregon State beat number 21 Arizona 9-2 last to give the Beavs a leg up in winning the Pac 12 regular season title.  Game two in Tucson is tonight. First pitch is at 6. Also yesterday, Second baseman Travis Bazzana and reliever Bridger Holmes were named as semifinalists for the Dick Howser Trophy, the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association honor given annually to the nation's top collegiate player.
Number 20 Oregon beat Washington State 9 to 2. Game 2 of the three game series is tonight. First pitch from PK Park is at 6:05.

College Softball:

Oregon is the second seed playing Boston University today in the Norman, Oklahoma Regional hosted by number one seeded Oklahoma University. The Ducks play the Terriers today at 2:30.

MLB: 

The Mariners are in Baltimore to take on Adley Rutschman and the Orioles. The weekend series starts this afternoon at 4:05.

San Francisco starts a series with the Rockies. The Giants swept them in Denver last week.. First pitch is 7:15 tonight

Pac 12 Regular Season Finale Series Start Today

MLB: 

The Mariners beat Kansas City 4 to 2 yesterday, to get the series win and pass a mid-May test against a team with a winning record. Brian Woo allowed a run on three hits in five and a third. Next the Ms go to Baltimore to take on Adley Rutschman and the Orioles. The weekend series starts tomorrow afternoon.

San Francisco beat the Dodgers 4 to 1 last night to salvage the series and avoid the sweep. Mike Yastrzemski homered. Logan Webb went six innings for the win. The Rockies visit next, starting tomorrow.

NFL:

The 2024 schedule is out.

The Seahawks and 49ers will play each other on Thursday Night for the third season in a row… Seattle opens the season against the Broncos, and maybe quarterback Bo Nix, and will have four prime-time games including that week 6 matchup with the 9ers on Thursday. San Francisco has six primetime games,  starting with the Monday night opener against the Jets. They’ll also face last season’s playoff opponents, Green Bay, Detroit and Kansas City.

Summit Boys 5A Golf Champs, Summit Girls Runner Up, Crook County Girls Golf 4A 2nd Place

MLB: 

San Francisco was blown out by the Dodgers 10 to 2 last night with LA adding 4 runs in the 9th inning. Starter Keaton Winn took the loss and left the game in the 4th inning with forearm tightness. He’ll have an MRI today. The Giants try to avoid the sweep tonight. First pitch is 6:45.

The Mariners lost 4 to 2 to Kansas City last night. Logan Gilbert took the loss. That sets up today’s rubber match. First pitch against the Royals is at 1:10.

NFL:

We’ll learn today when the Seahawks and 49ers will play each other this season, and get the rest of the 2024 schedule this afternoon at five. We already know they will play teams in the AFC East and NFC Central. San Francisco has the first Monday Night game, against the Jets.

College Football: 

Oregon State and Washington State will have their home football games broadcast on FOX and The CW for the 2024 season, the Pac 12 conference announced yesterday. In a statement conference president Teresa Gould said both student-athletes and fans deserve the national partnerships the two networks provide.

Local: 

The Summit Boys are 5A golf state champions for the third year in a row. The Summit Girls finished 2nd, The Crook County Girls are 2nd in 4A.

 

Beavs, Ducks Up In Baseball Polls

MLB: 

The Mariners took care of business in game 1 of their series with Kansas City. The 6 to 3 final gave George Kirby his 4th win of the season going 7 shutout innings allowing three hits. It was a strong comeback after getting shelled in his last outing. First pitch tonight against the Royals is at 6:40.

San Francisco lost 6 to 4 to the Dodgers in 10 innings last night after giving up a lead in the 7th. The Giants’ top of the order continues to struggle with the first four batters going a combined 1 for 15.  Keaton Winn gets the start tonight. His first pitch from Oracle Park is at 6:45.

College Baseball: 

…is headed into the final week of the regular season…series begin Thursday for the Beavers and Ducks.

Oregon State is ranked 4th in the Perfect Game poll, 6th in the Coaches, Writers, and  D1 baseball dot com poll, number 8 by Baseball America, 

Oregon is ranked 20th by Baseball America, number 23 in D1 Baseball dot com, and 24th in the Coaches poll.

NFL:

We’ll learn tomorrow when the Seahawks and 49ers will play each other this season, and get the rest of their 17 games when the 2024 schedule is released. It will come out at 5 tomorrow afternoon. 

Yesterday, Seattle came to terms on deals with three more of their draft picks. That puts four out of their eight picks under contract including first round selection Byron Murphy. 

College Football: 

Oregon State will get Cal Tight End Andy Alfieri. The Graduate Transfer played at Jesuit High School in Portland.

Oregon got a commitment from Four-star high-school prospect Dierre Hill from Illinois. Hill is the first running back for the Ducks’ 2025 recruiting class.

Local: 

Girls and Boys golf state championships continue today.

Baseball: Mountain View at South Salem in a non-league match up.

Softball:  Bend hosts The Dalles, La Pine at Siuslaw.

Beavs 10-Run Bruins In Sweep... Ducks Softball To NCAA Regionals

College Baseball: 

7th ranked Oregon State beat UCLA 15 to 1 yesterday, the game ended after seven innings since the lead was by more than 10 runs at that point. The Beavers get the series sweep.  Second baseman Travis Bazanna hit a double to pass Darwin Barney as the all-time OSU hits leader with 239.

The number 20 Oregon Ducks got past Washington 5 to 3 yesterday to get the series win. And it locked up a spot in the Pac 12 tournament next week. Now they angle for seeding position going into the regular season home finale this weekend.

MLB: 

San Francisco beat Cincinnati 6 to 5 in 10 innings yesterday with Casey Schmidt’s walk off RBI double. The win earned the Giants the series and upped their record to 19 and 23, eight games behind the first place Dodgers, who visit tonight to start a three-game series. First pitch is at 6:45.

The Mariners beat Oakland yesterday 8 to 4 to get the series win. Luis Castillo pitched six innings with 8 strikeouts and two earned runs. Julio Rodriguez homered. The Ms start the week with a half game lead in first place in the AL West at 22 and 19. Now, Kansas City visits T-Mobile Park coming in at 25 and 17 which only good for third place in the strong AL Central.  First pitch against the Royals is at 6:40.

College Softball:

Oregon received an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Ducks will be the second seed playing Boston University Friday in the Norman, Oklahoma Regional hosted by number one seeded Oklahoma University. [at 2:30]

The Portland Thorns blew out the Seattle Reign 4 - nil. Sophia Smith scored a goal and assisted on the other three.

The Portland Timbers lost to the Seattle Sounders 2 to 1 yesterday.

NBA:

The Trail Blazers will have the 7th and 14th overall picks in next month’s NBA Draft. Portland’s odds favored them to be higher than seven. The 14th pick is from a trade with Golden State last summer.

Local: 

Girls and Boys golf all class state championships begin today.

Ducks Lose In Pac 12 Softball Tourney

MLB: 

The Mariners were blown out in Minnesota yesterday 11 to 1. Logan Gilbert had a tough outing giving up 8 earned runs in the loss. It’s back home to take on Oakland tonight. First pitch against the As is at 6:40.

San Francisco lost to the Rockies yesterday 9 to 1. Keaton Winn took the L, giving up 7 runs in 3 and 2 thirds. The Giants are back home tonight to take on the Reds. First pitch against Cincinnati is at 7:15.

College Softball:

Third seed and number 21 ranked Oregon lost to six seed Utah 7 to 4 yesterday. The Ducks will likely still get an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.

College Baseball: 

7th ranked Oregon State takes on UCLA for the last regular season series at Coleman Field at Goss Stadium. First pitch against the Bruins is at 7.

The number 20 Oregon Ducks are in Seattle to play a series against Washington starting today at 5.

Soccer:

The Portland Thorns play Seattle Reign tomorrow at 7

The eight Pickleball courts closest to the soccer fields at Pine Nursery Park now have lighting when the courts are in use after dark. It’s thanks to donations from the Bend Pickleball Club and the community.

Mt. Bachelor is hosting training and camps for the Stifel U.S. Cross Country Ski Team, U.S. Biathlon Team, and U.S. Nordic Paralympic Team through Thursday the 16th. 

The Happy Girls Run Bend Half Marathon, 10K and 5K is tomorrow.

Starts Pac 12 Softball Tourney Today

MLB: 

The Mariners gave up two different leads, but rallied to score 4 runs in the 9th to beat Minnesota yesterday 10 to 6.  Cal Raleigh had a pinch hit go-ahead grand slam the first time the Ms came back. Seattle is back at it again today in game three of the four game series. First pitch against the Twins is at 4:40.

San Francisco blanked the Rockies yesterday. Kyle Harrison scattered 4 hits in 7 innings. The Giants jumped out in the 4th inning to score four of their five runs. LaMont Wade Jr had two RBI.  Their back at it again today in Colorado starting at 5:40

College Softball:

The Beavers are seeded eighth in the Pac-12 Tournament, and will meet ninth-seeded Arizona State tonight at 7.

Oregon moved down to number 21 in the USA Softball poll and up to number 24 in the Coaches poll. The Ducks open the Pac 12 tournament against Utah tomorrow at 10 am.

College Football: 

Oregon State will get former Florida State defensive end Josh Griffis via the transfer portal. Griffis also spent time at Jackson State under then-head coach Deion Sanders.

NFL:

A new report from ESPN confirms a previous report in the Athletic that the 49ers were looking to deal wide receiver Deebo Samuel just before the NFL draft started. San Francisco drafted receiver Ricky Pearsall with its first selection. Samuel or receiver Brandon Aiyuk could be on the trading block this offseason.

OSU Out Slugs Zags 20-13

College Baseball: 

Oregon State slugged it out with Gonzaga yesterday and won 20 to 13. Travis Bazanna hit his 25th and 26th home runs of the season, adding to his school record. The Beavers are now ranked 7th in the D1 Baseball dot com poll, 8th in the Coaches poll, 9th in the Writers’ poll, and 11th in Baseball America.

Oregon is number 20 in Baseball America, 23 in the Writers’ poll, 24th in D1 Baseball and the coaches poll…[The Ducks travel to Seattle Friday to play a series against Washington.]

MLB: 

San Francisco lost 6 to 1 to the Phillies yesterday. Mason Black took the loss allowing 5 runs in 4 and a third. The Giants head to Denver today. First pitch against the Rockies is at 5:40

The Mariners lost 3 to 1 to Minnesota yesterday. Luis Castillo pitched well going 6 and 2 thirds with two earned runs on two hits, but took the loss. Seattle is back at it again today in game two of the four game series. First pitch against the Twins is at 4:40.

College Football: 

Oregon has the Number one ranked transfer portal class in the Big Ten Conference according to 24/7 Sports. Last weekend, the Ducks landed a couple of highly touted defensive players. The U of O's transfer class is 2nd in the country behind Ole Miss. Oregon State is ranked near the bottom for the spring transfer period.

NFL:

The Seahawks signed nose tackle Buddha Jones on Sunday, one day after the undrafted rookie out of Troy finished Seattle's rookie minicamp. 56 players took part in the practices for the team’s draft picks and undrafted free agents. New head coach Mike Macdonald called it a ‘good start’.

Beavs Ducks Baseball Win Series

College Baseball: 

Number 7 Oregon State took the series against Washington State 10 to 6 yesterday. Travis Bazanna clubbed three home runs to give him 24 on the season to become OSU’s all-time home run leader.  The Beavers leave Pullman to go to Spokane to take on Gonzaga today starting at Noon.

Number 21 Oregon’s rally fell short against Utah yesterday. The 9 to 7 loss prevented the Ducks from getting the sweep in their final home series. The Ducks travel to Seattle Friday to close out the Pac 12 regular season against Washington.

College Softball:

Number 21 Oregon was able to avoid the sweep yesterday by 2 hitting number 7 Stanford in a 1 to nothing shutout. The Ducks run came on double steal of 2nd and home. They open the Pac 12 tournament against Utah on Thursday.

Oregon State came back to beat number 19 Cal 6 to 5 yesterday to avoid the series sweep. The Beavers are seeded eighth in the Pac-12 Tournament, and will meet ninth-seeded Arizona State on Wednesday.

MLB: 

The Mariners held off Houston 5 to 4 yesterday. Cal Raleigh hit the go ahead home run in the 9th. The Ms have won 7 of their last 10. One other note, Pitcher George Kirby is having a precautionary MRI to check out a sore knee. Now it’s on to Minnesota to start a four-game series. First pitch against the Twins is at 4:40 today.

The Giants fell to the Phillies 5 to 4 yesterday. Logan Webb took the loss, giving up four runs in four innings. San Francisco now has to try to avoid the four game sweep. The series finishes today in Philadelphia starting at 1:05.

Soccer:

The Portland Timbers lost to Charlotte.

The Portland Thorns beat Washington 2 to 1.

Ducks Football Sees Defensive Departures...Thorns Win

MLB:

The Mariners couldn't get the sweep of Atlanta yesterday falling 5 to 2. 4 of the Braves' runs were unearned due to a costly error. Evan Hancock had one earned run and those unearned runs were charged to him. At 17 and 14 Seattle is in first place, a game ahead of Texas in the AL West.  The Ms have a weekend series with Houston starting tomorrow.

The Giants fell in Boston yesterday afternoon 6 to 2. Rookie pitcher Daulton Jeffries took the loss giving up four runs in 2.2 innings. San Francisco will try to avoid the sweep by the Red Sox today. Kyle Harrison will get the start. First pitch is this morning at 10:35. 

Soccer:

The Portland Thorns won 3 to 2 over expansion team Bay FC last night. Sophia Smith scored two of the winning goals.

NFL:

The 49ers wide receiver room is getting crowded with the additions of draft pick Ricky Pearsall from Florida along with Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk. There were rumors leading up to the draft that either of the two veteran receivers could get traded. That could still happen but for now it looks like San Francisco will try to make one last run at a Super Bowl without overhauling the current roster until contract conditions force them to.

College Football: 

The Ducks have lost some depth on defense this week. Defensive tackle Ben Roberts and safeties Kodi DeCambra and Collin Gill are all transferring. 

NBA:

The Trail Blazers will likely not be re-upping the contract for Center Moses Brown according to a report from the Oregonian’s Aaron Fentress.

No. 21 Ducks Upset No. 7 Beavs

College Baseball: 

Number 21 Oregon upset Number 7 Oregon State 9 to 5 last night in Eugene. The Ducks won the last two games of the rivalry series.  Beavers’ Second Baseman Travis Bazzana tied Jim Wilson for the team single-season home run record with 21.

MLB: 

The Giants threatened in the 9th inning but were shut out 4- 0 by Boston yesterday afternoon. Pitcher Logan Webb took the loss giving up all four runs in three and 2 thirds innings. Game two of the series against the Red Sox is today. First pitch is at 12:10. 

The Mariners hung on to beat Atlanta again last night to get the series win. Luis Castillo exited after seven shutout innings staked to a 3 run lead. The Ms gave up two runs in the 8th but Andres Munoz came on to get the save. Jorge Polanco had a two run Seattle Homer. Game 3 is today starting at 12:40

College Softball:

Oregon is ranked number 21 in the USA Softball Poll and 25th in the coaches poll ahead of this week’s conference finale at number 6 Stanford.

NFL:

In Seattle, Former Maryland QB Taulia Tagovailoa will be at the Seahawks’ rookie camp this weekend. Undrafted tight-end Jack Westover out of Washington has signed a free-agent contract. There’s also a report the ‘Hawks could be bringing back Safety Jamal Adams since they’re still lacking depth in that position.
