Mariners Beat Orioles In Series Finale

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Mariners are grabbing a home series win.  Seattle beat the Orioles 9-3 at T-Mobile Park.  Chris Flexen picked up his fourth win after allowing three runs over six frames.  Rookie Julio Rodriguez hit his 12th home run of the season with a two-run bomb in the fourth inning.  Sam Haggerty had three hits and an RBI for Seattle, which improved to 36-and-41.  The M's host the Athletics tonight and send right-hander Logan Gilbert to the mound.  

LA Kings Acquire Fiala From Wild

(Los Angeles, CA)  --  The Los Angeles Kings are bringing in a playmaking forward.  The Kings acquired left winger Kevin Fiala from the Minnesota Wild in a trade that sent blue-line prospect Brock Faber and the 19th overall pick in this year's NHL draft to St. Paul.  ESPN reports that Fiala is expected to sign a seven-year extension with Los Angeles.  The 25-year-old is coming off the best season of his career, scoring 33 goals and tallying 52 assists in 82 games.

Washington Lands Pair Of 2023 Commitments

(Undated)  --  The Huskies are adding a pair of players to their 2023 recruiting class.  Quarterback Lincoln Kienholz and offensive lineman Landen Hatchett both announced they are committing to play for Washington.  Kienholz is a three-star QB from Pierre, South Dakota and chose the Huskies over offers from Wisconsin, Wyoming and other schools.  Hatchett is a three-star offensive lineman f

Tigers Edge Giants

(San Francisco, CA)  --  Eric Haase hit a go-ahead home run in the sixth inning as the Tigers edged the Giants 3-2 in San Francisco.  Haase launched a two-run bomb to break a 1-1 tie in the top of the sixth.  Alex Wood was tagged with the loss after surrendering three runs over five-and-two-thirds frames.  Evan Longoria hit his eighth homer of the year for San Francisco, which fell to 40-and-34.  
 

Storm Beat Aces

(Seattle, WA)  --  The Storm are knocking off the top team in the WNBA.  Seattle beat the Las Vegas Aces 88-78 at Climate Pledge Arena.  Jewell Loyd scored a game-high 24 points, while Stephanie Talbot added 15 points off the bench.  The victory was the 324th career win for Sue Bird, which is good for the most in WNBA history.  The Storm have won three of four to improve to 12-and-7.  Seattle hosts the Indiana Fever tomorrow night.

Angels Fall To White Sox

(Anaheim, CA)  --  Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani homered but it wasn't enough in an 11-4 loss to the White Sox at home.  Ohtani went 3-for-3.  Oliver Ortega took the loss in relief for the Angels.  Los Angeles is 36-and-41.

Giants Edge Tigers

(San Francisco, CA)  --  Carlos Rodon allowed just one run over six innings as the Giants edged the Tigers 4-3 at home.  Evan Longoria drove in two runs for San Francisco.  Mike Yastrzemski also plated a pair of runs for the Giants.  San Francisco is 40-and-33.

Oregon Officials Brace For Protests Around LIV Golf Event

(Portland, OR)  --  Portland officials are bracing for "significant" protests surrounding this week's LIV Golf event.  The tournament at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club marks the first US event for the divisive newcomer to the golf world.  The LIV Series is financially backed by the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia.  Eleven mayors from Washington County wrote a letter to the owners of Pumpkin Ridge to publicly denounce the event.  The event has also caused several members of the golf club to leave out of protest.

Angels Edge White Sox

(Anaheim, CA)  --  Taylor Ward hit a two-run, go-ahead double in the seventh inning as the Angels edged the White Sox 4-3 at home.  Brandon Marsh had three hits in the win.  Noah Syndergaard gave up just three runs over seven innings to pick up the win for Los Angeles.  The Angels are 36-and-40.

Adrian Peterson And Le'Veon Bell Set For Boxing Match

(Undated)  --  Two NFL running backs are clashing in the boxing ring.  ESPN reports Adrian Peterson and Le'Veon Bell have each signed contracts to meet in a heavyweight boxing exhibition later this summer.  The fight will take place on July 30th at Crypto-dot-com Arena in Los Angeles and marks the first time each athlete will compete in the ring.  Both Peterson and Bell are currently free agents, but each played with multiple teams last season.  Bell played eight games with the Ravens and Buccaneers, while Peterson suited up for a total of four games with the Titans and Seahawks. 

Giants Host Tigers Tonight

(San Francisco, CA)  --  The Giants are at home this evening.  San Francisco will welcome the Detroit Tigers to town.  Carlos Rodon takes the mound for the Giants.  Tarik Skubal starts for the Tigers.  San Francisco is 39-and-33 on the season.
 

Pro Baseball

Former Beaver Baseball great Adley Rutschman made his return to the northwest last night in Seattle as the starting catcher of the Baltimore Orioles.

Rutschman was the number one draft pick in 2019 in the MLB draft after earning All American Honors, and leading the Oregon state to the 2018 NCAA world series title.

The Sherwood High-School graduate signed for $8-million, and three years later he is in  the starting lineup for the Orioles.

Rutschman wasted no time celebrating his homecoming of sorts last night, belting his third home run of the year over the right feild fence with two-out, and nobody on base in the third inning giving the O's a 3 to nothing lead over the Mariners.

He started the night with an RBI single in the opening frame.

Ironically. Rutschman was drafted in the 40th round by Seattle after his senior season at Sherwood High-School.

The Orioles went on to beat the M's, 9-2 of the series is tonight at 7:10.

Bend Elks

The Bend Elks returned home last night, following a week long road trip in Washington, only to go extra innings entertaining the Bellingham Bells.

The Bells came into town leading the north division of the Westcoast League by 3-1/2 games over Kamloops, and the Elks entered the night just 1-game behind idle Corvallis for the south lead.

Bend had a 6-2 lead until the 8th inning when Bellingham plated 4-runs to tie the game. Both teams went scoreless in the 9th.

But, in the top of the 10th, Elijah Hainline belted a 1-out solo home run to give Bellingham a 7-6 lead.

First pitch this evening in the 2nd game at 6:35, and its '2 Dollar Tuesday' with $2-dollar general admission, and hot dogs and beverages.

Bend Trails Corvallis by one and a half games for the division lead. The Knights begin a series with Springfield tonight in Lane County.

Sounders, Timbers Grab Wins Over The Weekend

 

The Sounders and Timbers are grabbing wins in their return to the pitch. Seattle beat Sporting KC 3-0 at Lumen Field. Will Bruin, Jordan Morris and Cristian Roldan each scored in the victory. The Sounders still sit seventh in the Western Conference with 23 points. Meanwhile, Portland beat the Colorado Rapids 3-0 at home. Sebastian Blanco scored on a penalty, while Jaroslaw Niezgoda netted a pair of goals. The Timbers moved up to 11th in the Western Conference with 19 points.

Damian Lillard Attempts To Recruit Durant

Damian Lillard might be recruiting one of the top players in the NBA to the Trail Blazers. The point guard posted a photoshopped photo of him and Brooklyn Nets forward Kevin Durant on his Instagram story over the weekend. Durant reportedly is considering his future options after the Nets and Kyrie Irving are discussing his future with the team. Portland has been busy this offseason and it looks to rebuild the team around Lillard.

Soccer

The Portland Timbers scored a 3-zip shutout M-L-S win at home over Colorado saturday night for only the 4th-win of the season.

Bend Elks

The Bend Elks finished off their week long road trip with a 5-4 win over the Cowlitz Black Bears last night. Bend won five of the seven games on the trip to Yakima and Cowlitz County. The wins elevate the 14-and-7 Elks to within 1-game of the south division lead of the westcoast league behind Corvallis. The Elks are back home tonight to entertain and size up the Bellingham Bells for a 3-game series. The bells lead the north division of the W-C-L with a 15-and-5 record after winning two out of three games in Corvallis against the 5-peat league champion knights.

Bellingham has won 11 of their last 12-games.

College Baseball

The College Baseball season came to a close yesterday in Omaha with ole miss claiming it's first ever national championship. The rebels from Oxford, Mississippi  took down Oklahoma 4-2 yesterday to win game-2 of the title seris, and record the series sweep after thumping the sooner saturday night, 10-to-3.Oklahoma was hoping to grab it's third championship, but ole miss made a magical run as the rebels were one of the last -4 teams selected to the National Playoffs. Ole miss won a regional title on the road, and the super Regional Championship, also on the road enroute to Omaha. They become the 7th-different S-E-C school to win the college world series, and 8 of the last 13 titles have been claimed by S-E-C teams.

Sounders, Timbers Both Get Draws Over Weekend

(Undated) -- The Sounders and Timbers are both coming away with draws this weekend. Seattle battled to a 1-1 draw with Los Angeles FC on Saturday at Lumen Field. Albert Rusnák scored the lone goal for the Sounders in the 58th minute. Meanwhile, Portland also ended up with a 1-1 draw with the LA Galaxy. Yimmi Chará gave the Timbers an early lead in the 38th minute. Portland sits 13th place in the Western Conference with 16 points, while Seattle stays at seventh with 20 points.

Mariners Fall To Angels

(Seattle, WA) -- The Mariners are dropping another series at home. Seattle fell 4-0 to the Angels in their series finale at T-Mobile Park. The Mariners managed only two hits and struck out eight times in the losing effort. Logan Gilbert took his third loss after giving up two runs in six innings. Seattle has lost five of its last six to fall to 29-and-39. The Mariners hit the road to start a series with the A's tomorrow night.

THE PREP BASEBALL 5A & 6A ALL STAR SERIES WAS THIS WEEKEND IN CORVALLIS. IN THE OPENER ON SATURDAY, THE SOUTH ALL STARS SECURED AN 8-3 WIN. YESTERDAY NORTH WON THE SECOND MATCHUP 10-2.

Warriors Take Down Celtics In Game Six, Win 2022 NBA Championship

(Boston, MA) -- The Golden State Warriors are 2022 NBA Champions. Golden State defeated the Celtics 103-90 in Game Six in Boston. Stephen Curry scored 34 points to lead the Warriors to their fourth championship in the last eight seasons. Andrew Wiggins scored 18 points for the Warriors. It's the seventh title in franchise history for Golden State. Jaylen Brown scored 34 points as Boston lost in its first NBA Finals appearance since 2010.

(Boston, MA) -- The Warriors have a chance to add their seventh NBA Championship in franchise history tonight. Golden State will visit the Celtics for Game Six of the NBA Finals in Boston. The Warriors hold a 3-2 series advantage after winning Game Five 104-94 at home. The Celtics are hoping to force a Game Seven in San Francisco on Sunday. Boston is chasing its 18th Championship in franchise history.

(Pittsburgh, PA) -- Pittsburgh Steelers' Minkah Fitzpatrick is now the highest paid safety in NFL history. The NFL Network reports the Steelers are giving Fitzpatrick a four-year, 73-million-dollar extension, with 36-million guaranteed. Fitzpatrick was traded from the Miami Dolphins to the Pittsburgh Steelers for a first round pick in 2019. Since then, he's made eleven interceptions and scored three defensive touchdowns, while forcing three fumbles.

Avalanche Edge Lightning In Overtime In Game One

(Denver, CO) -- The Avalanche are striking first in this year's Stanley Cup Final. Andre Burakovsky netted the game-winner in overtime as Colorado beat the Lightning 4-3 in Game One in Denver. Tampa Bay stormed back to force overtime after trailing 3-1 after the first period. Burakovsky would give the Avs a 1-0 series lead after the teams battled through a scoreless third period. The teams meet again for Game Two on Saturday in Denver.

US Open Preview

(Brookline, MA) -- One of golf's toughest majors is back. The first round of the US Open at The Country Club in Brookline tees off this morning. Jon Rahm is the defending champion after winning last year's tournament with a finish of six under par. Rahm will be joined by Collin Morikawa and James Piot for the opening round. Erik Barnes, Michael Thorbjornsen, and Matt McCarty will be among the first group of players teeing off the first round.

Astros Make History With Two Immaculate Innings

(Arlington, TX) -- The Astros are making some history on the mound. Houston became the first team is MLB history to throw two immaculate innings in one game in the team's 9-2 win over the Rangers in Arlington. Starting pitcher Luis Garcia and reliever Phil Maton each tossed an immaculate frame in the victory with Garcia doing it in the second inning and Maton completing the feat in the seventh. Even more improbable was the fact that both pitchers faced the same three Texas batters in the lineup: Nathaniel Lowe, Ezequiel Duran and Brad Miller.

Gilbert, Mariners Shut Down Twins

(Seattle, WA) -- Logan Gilbert tossed another gem as the Mariners beat the Twins 5-0 in Seattle. Gilbert earned his seventh win after giving up just four hits over six scoreless innings. Eugenio Suarez broke a scoreless tie with a two-run bomb in the fourth, and Ty France added another two-run shot in the fifth. Seattle snapped a two-game losing skid and improved to 28-and-34. The M's send left-hander Marco Gonzales to the mound this afternoon.

(Boston, MA) -- The Warriors will look to clinch their seventh NBA Championship in franchise history when they visit the Boston Celtics for Game Six of the NBA Finals tomorrow. Golden State is coming off a big 104-94 win at home in Game Five to take a 3-2 series lead. Andrew Wiggins led the way for the Warriors with 26 points and 13 rebounds. Boston is hoping to force a Game Seven in San Francisco on Sunday.

Apple To Stream All MLS Matches For 10 Years Starting In 2023

(Cupertino, CA) -- Apple is announcing it'll stream all Major League Soccer matches for the next ten years starting in 2023. The new partnership is a first for a major professional sports league and it lets fans around the world view MLS, Leagues Cup, and select MLS NEXT pro matches in one place. There also won't be any local broadcast blackouts as part of the streaming package. The MLS will be available on Apple TV starting next year.

Russian Court Extends Brittney Griner's Detention

(Moscow) -- WNBA star Brittney Griner is seeing her detention in Russian custody extended through at least July 2nd. Griner was taken into custody in Moscow in Feburary after allegedly having marijuana vape cartridges on her person, which is illegal in Russia. Griner was playing for the Russian Premier League when she was arrested. Warriors Top Celtics In Game Five

(San Francisco, CA) -- The Warriors are one win away from another NBA Championship. Golden State defended homecourt with a 104-94 win over the Boston Celtics in Game Five of the NBA Finals in San Francisco. Andrew Wiggins led the Warriors in scoring with 26 points and collected a game-high 13 rebounds. Jayson Tatum led the game in scoring with 27 points for Boston and led his team in rebounds with 10. Report: Nuggets Trade With Thunder

(Undated) -- The Denver Nuggets are agreeing to a trade with the Oklahoma City Thunder. ESPN reports the Nuggets are sending forward JaMychal Green and a protected 2027 first round pick to the Thunder for the 30th pick in this month's draft, and two future second rounders. Oklahoma City will be sending Denver its second round picks in 2023 and 2024. Green is expected to opt into his 8.2-million dollar deal for the upcoming season.

Mariners Fall To Twins

(Seattle, WA) -- The Mariners are dropping their home series opener. Seattle lost 3-2 to the Twins at T-Mobile Park. The Mariners were held to six hits and struck out 11 times in the losing effort. Chris Flexen suffered his eighth loss on the mound after giving up two runs in five innings. Taylor Trammell launched a solo shot for his second homer of the season. Grizzlies Sign HC Taylor Jenkins To Extension

(Memphis, TN) -- The Grizzlies are locking down their head coach for years to come. Memphis announced Monday that it signed head coach Taylor Jenkins to a multi-year extension. Terms of the contract weren't disclosed as Jenkins is set to continue his tenure with the Grizzlies. Since taking over the team in 2019, the 37-year-old head coach has led Memphis to two playoff appearances. The Grizzlies won the Southwest Division for the first time in franchise history this past season and earned their highest playoff seed in team history.

(Brooklyn, NY) -- Sabrina Ionescu is making some WNBA history with her latest big game. The Liberty guard posted 27 points, 13 rebounds and 12 assists in New York's 88-86 loss to the Chicago Sky. Ionescu reached the mark in the third quarter, making her the first ever player to have a triple-double in the first three quarters of a game. It also marked the second career triple-double for Ionescu, who became the youngest player in league history to post multiple triple-doubles. Ionescu holds the NCAA Division One record for most triple-doubles with 26 when she played for Oregon.

Former Oregon Receiver Runs Third Fastest 110-Meter Hurdles

(New York, NY) -- A former Oregon receiver is making some splashes on the track. Eagles rookie receiver Devon Allen ran the third fastest 110-meter hurdles in history at the USA Track and Field New York City Grand Prix on Sunday. Allen recorded a 12.84 second finish in the race and was just four-hundredths of a second off the world record. The 27-year-old signed with the Eagles in April, but hasn't played football since 2016 when he was a receiver for the Ducks. Allen was busy competing at the past two Olympics, where he just missed making the podium in the 110-meter hurdles.

Mariners Fall To Red Sox

(Seattle, WA) -- The Mariners are taking a loss in their home series finale. Seattle fell 2-0 to the Red Sox at T-Mobile Park. ELSEWHERE, PAC-12 CHAMPION STANFORD BEAT TEXAS STATE LAST NIGHT IN PALO ALTO, 8-TO-4 TO FORCE A WINNER-TAKE-ALL REGIONAL TITLE GAME TONIGHT. ARIZONA PLAYS OLE MISS AT 10AM AND THE WILDCATS NEED TO BEAT THE REBELS TWICE TO WIN THE CORAL GABLES REGIONAL. AND, UCLA'S FATE HANGS AS THE BRUINS AND AUBURN WERE SUSPENDED LATE LAST NIGHT WITH UCLA TRAILING 9-ZIP. THEY'LL RESUME PLAY TODAY WITH UCLA NEEDING A WIN TO FORCE A DECIDING FINAL GAME.

AND, ON FRIDAY IN LEWISTON, IDAHO, THE NAIA, SMALL-COLLEGE, CHAMPIONSHIP WAS CLAIMED BY SOUTHEASTERN FIRE FROM LAKELAND, FLORIDA WHO DEFEATED HOST LEWIS-CLARK STATE FRIDAY, 6-5.

Beavers Eliminated From College World Series

(Oklahoma City, OK) -- The Beavers' season is coming to an end. Oregon State lost 3-1 to Arizona over the weekend to be eliminated from the Women's College World Series in Oklahoma City. The Beavers fell 7-1 in their opening game against 14th-seeded Florida and couldn't keep up with their fellow Pac-12 opponent, the Wildcats.

Joey Logano Wins NASCAR; Allmendinger wins at PIR

(Madison, IL)  --  Joey Logano is back in victory lane.  Logano earned his second victory of the NASCAR Cup Series season by winning the Enjoy Illinois 300 presented by TicketSmarter at World Wide Technology Raceway.  Logano led 22 laps in the win.  Kyle Busch led 66 laps but finished in second.  Kurt Busch, Ryan Blaney, and Aric Almirola rounded out the top five.

The NASCAR X-FINITY race at Portland International Raceway, the 'Pacific Office Automations 147', Saturday in the rain was won by veteran A.J. Allmendinger.

NBA Finals Tips Off Tonight

(San Francisco, CA) -- Game One of the NBA Finals between the Warriors and Celtics will tip off from San Francisco tonight. The two historic franchises are set to do battle for the Larry O'Brien Trophy. It's the sixth time in eight seasons Golden State has made the NBA Finals. It's the first appearance for Boston since the 2010 Finals. The Celtics are chasing their 18th championship in franchise history while the Warriors will aim for their seventh.

Celtics' Jaylen Brown Joins Donda Sports

(Undated) -- Jaylen Brown believes he is starting a "beautiful collaboration." The Celtics star recently became the first NBA player to sign with Donda Sports, Kanye West's marketing firm. Brown recently became a shoe free agent after his deal that he signed with Adidas back in 2016 expired. He has been active in social justice causes and has said he prefers future endorsement deals to include investments in those areas.

Rangers Take Lead In Eastern Conference Finals

(Undated) -- The Rangers are taking a 1-0 lead in the Eastern Conference Finals. New York cruised to a 6-2 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning for its seventh consecutive home win in the postseason. Filip Chytil led the Rangers to the win after scoring a pair of goals. Tampa Bay will look to even the series tomorrow night. Tonight, the Colorado Avalanche will be looking to take a 2-0 lead in the Western Conference Finals against the Edmonton Oilers.

Nets Defer Sixers' First Rounder

(Undated) -- The Nets are deferring the pick they acquired from the Sixers. Brooklyn informed league officials that it would be deferring Philadelphia's 2022 first round pick to the 2023 NBA Draft. The 76ers are slated to pick 23rd in the first round, but deferring the pick allows the Nets to keep flexibility over an extended period on using that pick in trades. The Nets could also land higher on the draft board based upon the success of Philadelphia's upcoming season.

Madden Reveals 2023 Cover

(Redwood City, CA) -- EA Sports' Madden 2023 cover is honoring the man it was named after. The late John Madden will grace this year's cover of the popular video game in three different unique covers. The three covers will pay tribute to different chapters of Madden's life. Madden passed away in late December of last year. He served as head coach of the Oakland Raiders and won a Super Bowl before becoming one of the most legendary broadcasters of all time.

IT'S THE THIRD N-WAC TITLE FOR LINN-BENTON BUT THE FIRST SINCE 1991. IT WAS THE 7TH TITLE GAME APPEARANCE FOR MT. HOOD WHO HAS 3 PENNANTS TO ITS CREDIT, AND LAST FINISHED RUNNER-UP IN 2015.

 

Report: Blazers Consider Offering No. 7 Pick In Potential Trade

(Portland, OR) -- The Portland Trail Blazers could trade away their number-seven pick in the upcoming NBA Draft to pick up new talent. According to Bleacher Report, the Blazers have been linked to a possible scenario where they would trade the pick for Toronto Raptors forward OG Anunoby. The 24-year-old is considered to be a strong two-way player. Portland is also reportedly pursuing Detroit forward Jerami Grant.
