Beavs' MBB Falls in Diamond Head Final...Blazers Host Jazz

College Football:

Oregon State lost a freshman wide receiver to the transfer portal this week but otherwise it's been quiet in Corvallis. Which is good news for the moment.

We’re now less than a week away from the Rose Bowl. Oregon head coach Dan Lanning said at a recent press conference he prefers to have the team practice in Eugene as long as they can before having to make the trip to Pasadena. Essentially only arriving early enough to fulfill media obligations.

The NCAA’s recent ruling on eligibility for players who attended junior college will likely have an impact on both Ducks and Beavers programs.

In other recruiting news, Mountain View high School’s Jack Foley announced on his social media he will be decommitting from Washington State and intends to play at Wake Forest. The Wide Receiver will be following former Washington State coach Jake Dickert to North Carolina to be a Demon Deacon.

College Hoops:

Yesterday the Oregon State men's basketball team hung close with Nebraska in the first half but couldn’t keep up in the second half and fell in the final of the Diamond Head Classic in Honolulu, HI, losing to the Cornhuskers 78 - 66. The Beavers dropped to 10 - 3 on the season.

NFL: Week 17

There is still a path for Seattle to meet the Rams for a division-deciding season finale…next week. But first the Seahawks are in Chicago tonight to take on the struggling Bears. Kick-off is at 5:15

NBA:

The Trail Blazers and Jazz are battling for the bottom of the Western Conference. The teams meet tonight at the Moda Center. Portland comes in at 9 - 20, Utah at 7 - 21.  Tip-off is at 7 tonight.

Local:

High School Holiday Hoops - Trinity Lutheran Girls and Boys, and Ridgeview Girls are playing in tournaments today.

Ducks Lanning, Gabriel Recognized...UO WBB, OSU MBB Win Big

College Football:

Oregon head coach Dan Lanning is a finalist for the Dodd Trophy, for the coach of the year award, and the Eddie Robinson award, which is also a coach of the year award. Oregon’s third-year coach is among five finalists, including Arizona State’s Kenny Dillingham, and Notre Dame’s Marcus Freeman. 

Quarterback Dillon Gabriel is first team All-American selection by the Football Writers Association of America. Defensive tackle Derrick Harmon is a second team selection.

Gabriel’s NFL draft stock is rising. Reports show he’s a projected top 15 pick and potentially top 10. Gabriel’s talent  combined with the success former QB Bo Nix is having with Denver is also partly responsible for the very early pre-draft chatter.

College Hoops:

The Oregon Women moved to 8 - 3 and handed Air Force just their second loss of the season. The Duck held the Falcons to single digit scoring in all but the 3rd quarter when the academy scored 10. Final 98 - 36 from Matthew Knight Arena.

The Oregon State Men also blew out their opponent at home. The Beavers easily handled Sacramento State 82 - 45 last night at Gill Coliseum to move to 8 - 2 on the season, thanks to another 4 game win streak. OSU heads to Hawaii for the Diamond Head Classic this weekend.

NBA:

The Trail Blazers are off until tomorrow night but they’re right in the middle of trade rumors. The Lakers are reportedly interested in acquiring both Jerami Grant and Robert Williams III, in exchange for role players and draft picks. Los Angeles has been underperforming so far, just a few games ahead of Portland in the Western Conference. Denver visits Rip City tomorrow.

Local:

The OSAA Girls basketball Coaches polls this week have Crook County number 7 in 4A, Redmond is 5th and Summit is 10th in 5A.

UO, OSU FB Transfer latest...Ducks Women, Beavs Men Hoops Tonight

College Football:

As Oregon scouts Ohio State and Tennessee, the unofficial offseason off the field business continues. The Ducks lost redshirt freshman linebacker Jaeden Moore to the transfer portal last night along with Junior cornerback Khamari Terrell. The U of O is reportedly in the running to land the top-ranked offensive tackle in the portal, Nevada’s Isaiah World.

Former Oregon State Defensive Back Andre Jordan Jr. is heading to UCLA. The transfer played in 18 games over two seasons at OSU and will be in his junior year for the Bruins  The Beavers have added D Lineman Tahjae Mullix from Western Carolina. The 5th year senior joins Arizona O Lineman J.T. Hand in two new transfer commits to Corvallis.

NFL: Week 16

The chase for the NFC West title will be a tough one for Seattle. They sit in second place behind the Rams but play against a red hot Vikings squad this Sunday. And Quarterback and Running Back is a big question mark with the team saying they’re optimistic QB Geno Smith’s knee will be ok, and hopeful running back Kenneth Walker III returns from his calf injury. 

Looking to shore up their injuries up front, San Francisco worked out four potential offensive lineman yesterday according to League reports published by NBC Sports Bay Area.

College Hoops:

The 10 -1 Oregon Men are up to number 10 in the Associated Press Top 25 poll. The Ducks are the highest ranked Big 10 team. They’re back in action on KBND Saturday.

The 7 - 3 Oregon Women play the 9 - 1 Airforce Falcons tonight at 6 at Matthew Knight Arena.

The 7 - 2 Oregon State Men host Sacramento State at Gill Coliseum tonight. Hornets vs Beavers for the first time since 2009 tips off at 7.

 

OSU's Lineman To Play in Shrine Game...Ducks Land Transfers

College Football:

Oregon State’s starting inside linebackers from the 2024 season Isaiah Chisom and Melvin Jordan will enter the transfer portal according to BeaverBlitz. So will Luka Vincic, a redshirt sophomore offensive lineman who announced he will go to Michigan State, joining Jonathon Smith and the staff who originally recruited him to be a Beaver.

Also out of Corvallis, offensive linemen Joshua Gray and Gerad Christian-Lichtenhan have accepted invitations to play in the East-West Shrine Game next month.

The Ducks landed a couple more transfer commits over the weekend: Purdue safety Dillion Thieneman, the 2023 Big 10 Freshman of the year, is going to Oregon. Northwestern’s highly-touted Cornerback Theran Johnson is also going to Eugene. And what some fans and media members were calling a huge move, running back coach and Associate Head Coach Ra'Shaad Samples reportedly told the coaching staff he would continue in his role after being a finalist for the Sam Houston head coach opening.

NFL: Week 15

The NFC West has Seattle in 2nd looking up at the Rams at the top of the division with both squads at 8 - 6. Arizona is 3rd at 7 - 7 with San Francisco at the bottom at 6 - 8.

NBA:

The Trail Blazers went down 116 to 109 in Phoenix last night. Anfernee Simons finished with 20 points to lead Portland, who drop to 8 - 18. The Blazers are off until Thursday.

College Hoops:

The 7 - 2 Oregon State Men took out previously undefeated UC Irvine over the weekend. The OSU Women fell to the Anteaters yesterday though.

The number 12 Oregon Men are now 10 -1 after a blowout of Stephen F. Austin yesterday.

Local:

During a recent meeting of the executive board of the Oregon School Activities Association, Crook County was voted to move up from Class 4A to 5A. Projected  population growth at the school means the bump up from the level they’ve competed at the last two years. It’s likely the Cowboys and Cowgirls will rejoin the Intermountain Conference with the Bend and Redmond schools.

College Football:

NBA:

The 8 - 16 Trail Blazers play 12 - 12 San Antonio tonight. Portland has been off since Sunday’s loss to the Lakers. In that time trade rumors and scenarios have swirled around the team. The time-off wasn’t enough for rookie center Donovan Clingan who is still questionable with his knee injury. 

College Hoops:

The Oregon State Men have a big one in Gil Coliseum tomorrow afternoon against undefeated UC Irvine. The 6 - 2 Beavers have won two in a row but will face their toughest test of the season from the 9 - 0 Anteaters. 

The OSU Women are 3 - 6 and also face a tough Anteaters squad when they play 6 - 2 Irvine Sunday afternoon.

The number 12 Oregon Men 9 -1 play Stephen F. Austin Sunday. Coverage starts at 2:30. Tip-off is at 3 here on KBND.

Ducks' Gabriel AP Big 10 Offensive Player...OSU's Christian-Lichtenhan Pac 12 O Line Standout

College Football:

The Associated Press Big 10 Offensive player of the year is Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel. The record setting Heisman Trophy candidate is on the all conference first team along with tackle Josh Conerly Jr, and defensive end Derrick Harmon. Four Ducks also earned second team Big 10 honors including running back Jordan James and wide receiver Tez Johnson on offense, and defensive standouts at linebacker Matayo Uiagalelei and Bryce Boettcher. Gabriel has also accepted an invitation to the Senior Bowl. 

Yesterday, the Big Ten Conference announced the 2025 schedule, with seven regular-season games once again at Autzen Stadium. The Ducks’ home-opener is against FCS powerhouse Montana State on August 30th, before welcoming Oklahoma State on September 6th. The Big Ten season starts on September 13th at Northwestern, then Oregon State visits Eugene on September 20th.

Oregon State’s Gerad Christian-Lichtenhan was named the top Offensive Lineman in the Pac-12 Conference following the 2024 season by a vote of conference staff and media. This season, the Pac-12 selected standout performers who will be recognized as "Top Performers" in the league's archives and historical records. Thanks to OSU Beavers dot com Athletic Communications for providing that information. The rest of the players selected were all from Washington State. The Cougars finished 8 - 4 and are headed to the very respectable Holiday Bowl to play Syracuse on December 27th in San Diego.

NFL: Week 15

The 49ers are hoping running back Isaac Guerendo can go, same for edge rusher Nick Bosa, but will be without tackle Trent Williams among others. We’ll see how San Francisco’s offense works around apparently disgruntled wide receiver Deebo Samuel. The 9ers are 3 point favorites over the Rams as they look to tie them up in the division and get to .500 at 7 - 7. Kick-off from Levi Stadium is at 5:15.

The Seahawks may be without running back Kenneth Walker III for another game after he was a scratch against Arizona, as he is dealing with a calf injury that he sustained in the Week 13 win over the Jets. K9 was among nine players out of practice yesterday.

UO's Gabriel Heisman Finalist...Ducks' LB Boetcher Earns Burlsworth...McCoy Leaving OSU...

College Football:

Big 10 Champion Oregon will have several players up for post-season awards including quarterback Dillon Gabriel who has been invited to New York City for the Heisman Trophy presentation Saturday. Gabriel has been a contender all season with oddsmakers keeping the transfer senior among the favorites. Ahead of the weekend’s ceremony Gabriel will be in Las Vegas tonight as a finalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy, the nation's most prestigious scholar-athlete award. One player has already received an honor. Yesterday, linebacker Bryce Boettcher was named the winner of the 2024 Burlsworth Trophy, presented to the nation's most outstanding player who began his career as a walk-on. Meanwhile in Corvallis quarterback Gevani McCoy will be leaving Oregon State through the transfer portal. He was a Beaver for one season after coming from Idaho last year. McCoy started for much of the 2024 campaign but lost the job near the end.

College Hoops:

The Oregon Men stayed number 12 in the Associated Press Top 25 despite Sunday’s last-second loss giving them their only blemish on their 9 -1 record. UCLA did enter the rankings at number 24 yesterday after pulling out the win at Matthew Knight Arena. 

NFL: Week 15

The 49ers are hoping today’s practice shows how the foot of running back Isaac Guerendo feels after the rookie starter sprained it during the win over the Bears. Head Coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters yesterday he hoped Guerendo would be ready for the big divisional showdown with the Rams Thursday night.

The Seahawks may be without running back Kenneth Walker III for another game after he was a scratch against Arizona, Head coach Mike Macdonald said during his media availability yesterday the team would see how practice goes this week for their leading rusher. Walker is just one of many players that will be landing on the injury report in Seattle. They’re going to need all hands on deck against Green Bay Sunday night.

No 1 Ducks To Rose Bowl...Blazers Fall In L.A....UO MBB Loses To UCLA

College Football:

Oregon is the Big 10 Champion and number 1 seed in the College Football Playoffs. That means a New Year’s Day Rose Bowl date with the winner of Ohio State vs Tennessee. The Ducks are 13-0 for the first time ever, tying the program record for wins in a single season. When asked on the ESPN Playoff matchup selection show about potentially having to play the Buckeyes again head coach Dan Lanning said the team would focus only on things they could control. A lot of pundits are saying it isn’t a fair draw, and the Ducks have a harder path to the championship than Penn State. NBA:

The Trail Blazers were doomed by a lop-sided second quarter where they were outscored by 20 and fell to the Lakers 107 - 98 last night. Portland is off until Friday.

College Hoops:

The number 12 Oregon Men are undefeated no longer after losing 73-71 on a banked-in three-pointer at the buzzer to UCLA yesterday at Matthew Knight Arena. f O Coach Dana Altman said afterwards the team gave up too many points off of their 13 turnovers. Now Oregon is 1 -  1 in the Big 10.

NFL: Week 14

The Seahawks tightened the lead in the NFC West after taking down the Cardinals yesterday. Geno Smith was an efficient 24 of 30 for 230 yards with a touchdown in the 30 - 18 win where the rushing game was also effective without injured starting running back Kenneth Walker III. Seattle has won 4 straight to get to 8 - 5 a game ahead of 7 - 6 Los Angeles with Arizona slipping to 3rd at 6 -7 with the 6 - 7 49ers still technically alive to win the division after a 38 - 13 victory over Chicago which snapped the three game losing streak. Next it's a quick turn around and another potential divisional shake-up when the 9ers host the Rams Thursday.

Ducks Set For Big 10 Championship Game...Blazers Back Home

College Football:

It’s a new conference but it’s another conference title game for Oregon. The number 1 ranked Ducks play the number 3 Nittany Lions in the Big 10 Championship game tomorrow at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. No matter the result the U of O will be in the playoffs, but a win over Penn State will earn a first round bye. Oddsmakers have the Ducks by 3.5 and they don’t expect a particularly high scoring game with an over/under of 49.5. Hear more from coaches and players on the Oregon Ducks Insider daily podcast. NBA:

The Trail Blazers are back home to host Utah tonight. At 8 - 14 Portland has lost 2 in a row and 6 of their last 10. But the young team is starting to get all of their players healthy. Point guard Scoot Henderson could return from a thigh injury. The Jazz are also struggling this season at 4 - 17 having lost five straight games. Tip off from the Moda Center is at 7. (:23)

The 7 - 2 Oregon Women have their conference opener against USC tomorrow starting at 1.

The OSU Women play UC Irvine Sunday at 1

The 5 - 2 Oregon State Men play Idaho tomorrow at 2.

The number 12 Oregon Men are 9 - 0, and 1 - 0 in the Big 10 after Wednesday’s season opening win. Next up is UCLA Sunday from Matthew Knight Arena. The pregame show starts at 2:30 here on KBND.

NFL: Week 14

The 5 - 7 49ers are limping into Sunday’s contest against Chicago trying to stop a three game losing streak. San Francisco is favored to win by 4 over the 4 - 8 Bears. Kick-off from Levi Stadium is 1:25. 

The first place Seahawks have another go-around with Arizona Sunday, after beating the Cardinals just two weeks ago at Lumen Field. Seattle will be underdogs in the desert though, getting 2.5 points. Sole possession of first place will be on the line with the Hawk’s having just a one game lead on the Cards. Kick-off is set for 1:05

Ducks Earn Big 10 Honors...Blazers Out Of NBA Cup

College Football:

There is a bunch of Big 10 regular-season honors for the Number 1 ranked Ducks. Quarterback Dillon Gabriel is the 2024 Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year and the Quarterback of the Year. Gabriel was also selected to the All-Big Ten first team by both the league's coaches and the media. Also on the first team are offensive lineman Josh Conerly Jr. in the coaches vote, as well as Conerly, linebacker Matayo Uiagalelei and long snapper Luke Basso in the media vote. 

Oregon has five players on the all-Big Ten second team in the coaches vote, and six in the media vote. Four more Ducks came in on the coaches all-Big Ten third team, and two got on the media third team. 

UO has 10 players earning all-Big Ten honorable mention in both the coaches vote and the media vote.  

And Oregon defensive coordinator Tosh Lupoi is one of 15 semi-finallists for the Broyles Award, for college football's top assistant coach.

Aaand Oregon's offensive line was announced as one of three finalists for the Joe Moore Award, given to the nation's most outstanding offensive line unit.

NBA:

The Trail Blazers lost their NBA Cup game 127 - 105 to the LA Clippers last night. That means they will not advance out of the group stage of the league’s in-season tournament. Deandre Ayton led the team in scoring with 16 points. The Blazers go back to Portland to play the Jazz on Friday.

College Hoops:

The OSU Women beat Grambling State yesterday to get to 3 - 5. 

The Oregon Women play Washington State in Eugene tonight at 7.

The number 12 Oregon Men and their 8 - 0 record open the conference season tonight in Los Angeles against USC. Coverage starts at 7, tip-off against the Trojans is 7:30 here on KBND.

Ducks MBB Ranked 12th...Blazers Without Henderson Against Clippers.

College Football:

Oregon’s first season in the Big 10 conference gets them in Saturday’s Championship Game but quarterback Dillon Gabriel, linebacker Jeff Bassa, and tight end Terrrance Ferguson were in Indianapolis  for the media days earlier this summer. They told ESPN they planned then to make a return trip to Indy, and to bring along the whole squad. The number 1 Ducks have opened as a 3.5 point favorite over the number 3 Nittany Lions. NBA:

The Trail Blazers haven’t had point guard Scoot Henderson in the line-up the past few games and he will probably miss a couple more. Head coach Chauncey Billups revealed Scoot has a deep thigh bruise and probably won’t return until Friday at the earliest. Next up the Blazers have another NBA Cup game at the LA Clippers tonight. Remember Portland had a big win in the Clips’ new arena in the first week of the season back in October. Tip-off is at 7:30

College Hoops:

The Ducks’ Men 8 - 0 start has them in the polls now. Oregon makes their debut at number 12 in the Associated Press weekly rankings. They open the conference season tomorrow.

The Oregon Women fell out of the Top 25 after consecutive losses last week.

The OSU Women are in action today, playing Grambling State at Gill Coliseum for their annual field trip game. All seats are reserved for students from area schools as well as OSU students. Tip-off is at 11.

NFL: Week 14

The 5 - 7 49ers will once again lean on their running back platoon after learning of the severity of Christian McCaffery’s knee injury. Quarterback Brock Purdy told a San Francisco reporter the final five games are all must win now.

The first place Seahawks have another go-around with Arizona Sunday, before running a gauntlet of good NFC North teams to wind down the season. Seattle assistant head coach Leslie Frazier filled in for Mike Macdonald’s press conference yesterday as the first-year head coach is expecting the birth of his first child. Frazier said the team is making the comeback win against the Jets a confidence-builder. 

Ducks' No. 1 AP, Coaches...Big 10 Championship Next

College Football:

Oregon stays the unanimous number 1 in the Associated Press and Coaches Polls. They finished an undefeated regular season Saturday and got a bit of revenge on the Washington Huskies in the process. Now the 12 - 0 Ducks go to Indianapolis for the Big 10 Championship Game against number 3 Penn State this Saturday. Hear more from coaches and players on the Oregon Ducks Insider daily podcast. 

NBA:

The Trail Blazers lost a close one against Dallas last night with both teams filling up the stat sheet for the 137 - 131 final. Portland was led by Anfernee Simons' 27 points with 6 players reaching double figures. Simons’ scoring was unique in that he had 24 of the 27 in the 3rd quarter. He was in foul trouble the rest of the game and played only 23 minutes. Next up the Blazers have another NBA Cup game at the LA Clippers tomorrow.

College Hoops:

The Ducks’ Men had an outstanding tournament in Las Vegas wrapping it up Saturday night with a narrow upset of number 9 Alabama. Oregon is now 8 - 0. They open the conference season Wednesday.

Oregon State’s men are 5 - 2 after blowing out UC Davis Saturday. They’re off until this weekend.

NFL: Week 13

The Seahawks didn’t play their best football in the win over the Jets but were able to put together enough plays and get some big help from the defense. Seattle is on top of the NFC West. The come from behind 26 to 21 win and the Cardinals loss gives them a full game lead at 7 - 5 over Arizona and the Rams who are both now 6 - 6. San Francisco is last in the division but not officially out of contention at 5 - 7. 

Local:

The Redmond Turkey Trot and I Like Pie in Bend saw thousands of runners participate in the Thanksgiving fun runs benefiting nonprofits.
