Blazers Stay Hot

NBA:

The Trail Blazers have run the hot streak to 6 wins in their past 7 after dismantling Orlando last night 119 - 90 for one of their most complete wins of the season. Guards Scoot Henderson and Shaedon Sharpe each had 23 points with Deandre Ayton coming through with 22. Six Blazers reached double figures. Portland has the Suns in town for a double dip starting tomorrow night.

College Basketball:

The Oregon Women have a four game winning streak after pulling off a road upset at Michigan State yesterday. They were able to hold off a late rally from the Spartans to take a 63 - 59 win.

The 16th ranked Oregon Men took a tumble against the Bruins last night. The Ducks trailed early and could never get back in it going down 78 - 52 to fall further behind UCLA in the conference standings. The Ducks are now 5 - 5 in the Big 10. Coverage starts at 7, tip-off 7:30 here on KBND.

The Oregon State women stopped their four game losing streak last night with a nine point win over Pepperdine. The Beavers get to 6 -6 in the West Coast Conference.

IMC Teams in boys and girls hoops tonight. Mountain View is at Ridgeview for girls, the Ravens boys play at Mountain View, La Pine plays Creswell, and Sisters plays Harrisburg in the 3A mountain valley. Central Christian plays Crosshill Christian.

Ducks Coach Lanning Wins Stallings Award...College Hoops Tonight

NBA:

The Trail Blazers have won 5 of their past 6 and are up to 18 - 29 on the season. The homestand continues when the Magic visit tonight. Portland has had balanced scoring during the hot streak. The injury report has been lighter, too. Jerami Grant is questionable with Ankle Soreness. The Blazers tip off against Orlando tonight at 7.

College Football:

Oregon head coach Dan Lanning is the winner of the 2025 Stallings Award, which recognizes outstanding leadership, character and achievement in college football. It’s named for coaching great Gene Stallings.

Oregon State’s matchup versus Wake Forest at Reser Stadium has been moved to October 11th from October 25. The change has been made now that Wake Forest's conference schedule is released. That Saturday on the 25th will now be the Beavers’ bye.

College Basketball:

The Oregon Women take their three game winning streak on the road at Michigan State today. The Ducks go to East Lansing at 6 - 3 in the Big 10 and 15 -5 overall but the 16th ranked Spartans have won 5 in a row and sit a game ahead of the U of O in a tight conference. Tip-off at 3 this afternoon.

Tonight the 16th ranked Oregon Men are at UCLA. The Ducks are in the middle of the conference at 5 - 4 but can make some headway against the Bruins who are just a game ahead in the win column after having won four straight. Coverage starts at 7, tip-off 7:30 here on KBND.

The Oregon State women will try to stop a four game losing streak tonight when Pepperdine comes to Corvallis. The Beavers are 5 -6 but ahead of the Waves in the West Coast Conference. Tip off from Gill Coliseum is at 6.

Local:

The OSAA Boys Basketball coaches Poll has Caldera moving up to number 2, Redmond 5th, and Summit receiving votes in 5A. Crook County is 5th and Madras is 7th in 4A, 2A has Trinity Lutheran ranked 5th.

IMC Teams have top 10 matchups in boys and girls hoops tonight. Bend against Redmond and Summit vs Caldera.

Blazers Beat Bucks...Beavs Fall to Zags

NBA:

The Trail Blazers took care of Milwaukee 125 - 112 last night to give the team their 5th win in the past 6 games after getting down early and then coming back to hold off the Bucks. Portland was led by Deni Avdija’s 30 points. Anfernee Simons put in 25. Five Blazers were in double figure scoring. The Magic visit tomorrow.

Also yesterday, Scoot Henderson was selected to compete in the 2025 Rising Stars game during All Star weekend on February 14th.

College Basketball:

The Oregon State Men got down early in the first half and trailed by 20 at halftime….it got worse from there. The 98 - 60 final against Gonzaga sends the Beavers to 16 and 7 overall, and 6 - 4 in the West Coast Conference.

Local:

The OSAA Girls Basketball coaches Poll has Redmond 7th and Summit 9th in 5A

IMC Teams are in action in Boys and Girls Wrestling.

OSU WBB Fall to WSU...OSU MBB vs Gonzaga Tonight...Blazers Host Dame, Bucks

College Basketball:

The OSU Women fell to 5 - 6 in the West Coast Conference after losing to Washington State last night at Gill Coliseum. 

The Oregon State Men take their 16 and 6 overall, and 6 - 3 record in the WCC to Gonzaga tonight. It’s the first time the Beavers have met the Bulldogs in Spokane since 1989. Tip-off is tonight at 8.

The Oregon men dropped to number 16 in the Associated Press Top 25 and fell three spots to number 18 in the Coaches poll. The Ducks are 16 - 4 overall, and 5 - 5 in the Big 10.

College Baseball:

Oregon State is ranked ninth nationally to open the 2025 season by Baseball America, which released its preseason rankings yesterday.

It's the third top-10 ranking for the Beavers, who are also 7th in D1Baseball.com and 10th by Perfect Game. 

Oregon State opens the 2025 season on Friday, Feb. 14 against Xavier in Surprise, Ariz.

The Oregon Ducks are also getting pre-season attention coming in at number 19 in the Baseball America poll. The opening series in Eugene starts February 14th.

College Football recruiting:

Lake Oswego running back LaMarcus Bell has committed to Oregon State.

 

The three-star recruit chose the Beavers over Washington State, Cal, Boise State and BYU.

NBA:

The Trail Blazers have Milwaukee and Damian Lillard visiting tonight. Tip-off is at 7.

Blazers Snap Win Streak...OSU Women vs Wash St CBB Tonight

NBA:

The Trail Blazers snapped their 4 game win streak yesterday by losing to Oklahoma City. Deni Avdija led the way with 28 points. Scoot Henderson finished with 25. Portland played the Western Conference’s top team tough and only lost by 10, 118 - 108. The Blazers fall to 17 - 29 with Milwaukee visiting tomorrow. 

College Basketball:

The Oregon men may slip in the rankings after dropping to 16 - 4 overall, and 5 - 5 in the Big 10 following the upset in Minnesota over the weekend.

The Oregon State Men are now 16 and 6 overall, and 6 - 3 record in the WCC. They pulled away from Santa Clara Saturday afternoon to win 83 - 69.

The OSU Women are 5 -5 in the West Coast Conference facing Washington State tonight at Gill Coliseum. The Cougars come in at 7 -4 in the conference. Tip-off is at 7

NFL: 

The Seattle Seahawks will hire Klint Kubiak to be the team’s offensive coordinator. Kubiak was the offensive coordinator at New Orleans last season. He has also been OC for the Vikings. Seattle has a young offensive line and a veteran quarterback and skill positions for Kubiak to work with.

OSU Women Basketball

NBA:

The Trail Blazers are now winners of three in a row after blowing out Orlando yesterday. Portland’s defense held the Magic to 77 points. The offense didn’t get much contribution from Shaedon Sharpe or Scoot Henderson. Head Coach Chauncey Billups went with a bigger line-up having Toumani Kamara finally back in the line-up. Anfernee Simons went off for 21, leading five Blazers in double-figures. The road trip finishes in Charlotte today at 4:00

 

College Basketball:

The OSU Women fell 54 - 52 to San Francisco last night to drop to 5 -4 in the West Coast Conference.

The Oregon State Men used a 49 point second half to pull away from Pepperdine last night to get a 20 point win over the Waves. ... The Beavers get to 15 and 6 overall with a 5 - 3 record in the WCC. Santa Clara visits Gill Coliseum tomorrow afternoon.

The Oregon Women have Indiana at Matthew Knight Arena tonight at 6

The number 15 Oregon men are now 16 - 3 overall, and 5 - 3 in the Big 10.

The Oregon State Men mark the sixth all-time meeting with Pepperdine ... The Beavers and Waves last played in 2018. OSU comes in at 14 and 6 overall with their 4 - 3 record landing them in the middle of the West Coast conference. Tipoff tonight at 6:30 at Gill Coliseum 

 

College Football:

The Oregon Ducks’ presumed 2025 starting quarterback Dante Moore is tied for ninth in betting odds to win the Heisman Trophy next season, according to early numbers posted by FanDuel Sportsbook. That would make three straight Heisman-contending quarterbacks in a row, starting with Bo Nix two seasons ago, and Dillon Gabriel this past season.

College Baseball:

Number 7 Oregon State held their media day yesterday ahead of the team’s first practice tomorrow. Coach Mitch Canham said the team has had a tremendous offseason. The first game is February 14th.

Oregon Ducks starting pitcher Grayson Grinsell is a D1Baseball second-team preseason All-America. The number 12 ranked U of O plays its season opening series in Eugene starting February 14th.

 

Local:

OSAA Boys Basketball coaches polls this week. In 5A - Caldera is number 2 and Redmond is 4th. Ridgeview and Summit also got votes. In 4A, Crook County is 5th and Madras is 8th. In 2A, Trinity Lutheran is 5th.

Ducks win over Washington

NBA:

The Trail Blazers started the east coast swing on a good note with a win over the Heat last night. Anfernee Simons came back from injury to lead the team with 24 points. Deandre Ayton had a strong 22 points and 15 rebounds. 7 Blazers reached double figures to contribute to the 116 - 107 final, the first back to back victories since late December. Next it’s on to Orlando tomorrow.

 

College Basketball:

The number 15 Oregon men are now 16 - 3 overall, and 5 - 3 in the Big 10. The Ducks beat Washington last night at Matthew Knight Arena. After getting down in the early going they led by 2 at the half, before eventually pulling away at the end to take the 82 - 71 victory.

Seattle continues interviews for offensive coordinator candidates. Whoever gets hired may not have wide receiver DK Metcalf in the mix. An ESPN informal poll of NFL executives think the LA Chargers are likely to make a deal for Metcalf. This off-season is probably the ceiling for the veteran pass catcher’s trade-value.

OSAA Girls Basketball coaches polls this week. 5A - Summit is number 7, right behind the Storm in the 8th spot is Redmond. Caldera also received votes and landed just outside of the official top 10.

The Trail Blazers Blazers are back on the road starting in South Florida tonight. The team announced Anfernee Simons, Kris Murray and Robert Williams III are all questionable to play. Simons has an elbow strain, while Murray chest bruise, and Williams sore ankle. The injury report has forward Rayan Rupert assigned to the G League, Rip City Remix. Rookie center Donovan Clingan and wing Matisse Thybulle are also out. Tip-off against the Miami Heat is at 4:30.

College Basketball:

The Oregon men are 15 - 3 overall, and 4 - 3 in the Big 10. The Ducks slipped two spots to number 15 in the Associated Press poll and dropped 1 spot down to number 15 in the coaches poll. They will need to quickly forget the loss to Purdue when Washington visits tonight. Coverage starts at 7:30, tip-off at 8 here on KBND.

Oregon State's Michael Rataj has been named West Coast Conference Co-Player of the Week. The forward scored a career-high 29 points in the Beavers' win over No. 16 Gonzaga on Thursday, going 9-for-15 from the floor and pulling down seven rebounds. He put in 18 points and six rebounds at San Francisco on Saturday

NFL: 

Seattle is searching for offensive coordinator candidates. While it’s not totally clear what will happen, the hiring of Detroit coordinator Ben Johnson by the Chicago Bears to be their new head coach may cause a ripple effect with who is available for the Seahawks to consider.

Beavs Upset No. 16 Zags...Blazers Blown Out

 College Basketball:

In Corvallis, the Oregon State Men pulled off a big upset over number 16 Gonzaga in overtime at Gill Coliseum last night. The Beavs hung around with the Zags all game and pulled ahead in the extra frame to take it 97 - 89.

The OSU Women got by Santa Clara in Overtime to get to 9 - 9 overall and 5 -2 in the WCC.

The number 13 Oregon men have a big match up with number 17 Purdue tomorrow. Pregame coverage starts at 11:30. Tip-off at 12 here on KBND.

The Oregon Women play Iowa Sunday at Mathew Knight arena.

NBA:

The Trail Blazers scored a season low 38 points at halftime. Scoot had 14 of those. He would only score 2 more points in the second half and the Clippers blew out the Blazers 118 - 89. Delano Banton had 23 points in 25 minutes. Shaedon Sharpe had a highlight reel dunk that will look good when his name is brought up in trade talks. Anfernee Simons and Toumani Kamarra somehow went scoreless. It was a weird, off night. That’s loss 27 and the 4th in a row.  Houston visits tomorrow night.

College Baseball:

The D1 Baseball number 12 ranked Oregon Ducks have outfielder Mason Neville on Perfect Game’s preseason All-Big 10 team. Ducks RHP Will Sanford is picked to be Freshman of the Year.

Perfect Game also took a look at OSU’s upcoming independent season. The publication claims the Beaver’s roster looks like the best on the west coast…that could find a way to Omaha.

Baseball season starts in a month.

Beavers, Ducks Football Latest...Blazers Fall To Nets

SPORTS 1-15-25 

College Football:

Oregon State head coach Trent Bray will not be doing a hiring search to lead his defense next season, as he’ll be the Beavers’ defensive coordinator. Bray told The Oregonian he’ll replace Keith Heyward Jr., who resigned Sunday after a year as D-C.

Oregon Nose tackle Jamaree Caldwell who thanks to a new NCAA rule was eligible for another year of eligibility as a former junior college player still plans to enter the NFL draft. That means the Ducks are losing all of the starting interior defensive linemen to the NFL. Offensive lineman George Silva and safety Kobe Savage also have a year left to play. Silva indicates he will play in Eugene again..

College Hoops:

The Oregon Women (12 - 5, 3 - 3 in the Big 10) in action against Purdue tonight at 6.

The number 13 Oregon men The 15 - 2 Ducks are off until Sunday against Purdue.

NBA:

The Trail Blazers fell behind early and struggled late losing to the Nets in Portland last night. Scoot Henderson may have had his breakout game. He had a career high 39 points,putting in 8 3-pointers. The Clippers visit tomorrow.

NFL: 

Seattle is searching for offensive coordinator candidates. The Seahawks have requested an interview with Minnesota Vikings assistant coach Grant Udinski. The Vikes were eliminated from the playoffs Monday.

Local:

Crook County High School Track Coach Ernie Brooks has been named a Coach of the Year by the National Federation of High School coaches.

OSAA Girls Basketball coaches poll has Summit 8th and Redmond 9th in 5A. Tonight Summit, Mountain View, and Ridgeview Girls play tonight. Mountain View Boys play tonight.

No. 15 Ducks MBB Win...Ducks Hockey Sweep

College Hoops:

The Number 15 Oregon men had a winning road trip after hanging on in State College yesterday.  The Ducks escape Penn State with a one-point win to move to 4 -2 in the conference, and 15 - 2 overall. 

The Oregon Women lost by 9 to Ohio State Sunday afternoon. The 9th ranked Buckeyes are unbeaten. The Ducks fall to 12 - 5, 3 - 3 in the Big 10. 

The Oregon State Men got a big road win in Stockton Saturday blowing out the Pacific Tigers 91 - 55. As a team, the Beavers went 31-for-32 from the free throw line, setting a program record for free throw percentage in a game with 30 or more attempts.

NBA:

The Trail Blazers returned home to get trounced by Miami Saturday. They put up a comeback attempt in the 3rd quarter cutting the lead to 4 behind Anfernee Simons 17 points in the period. Simons finished with 28. But the Blazers didn’t have enough in the tank in the 4th quarter and ended up on the wrong side of another blowout. Portland is off until tomorrow.

NFL: 

Seattle is interviewing offensive coordinator candidates. Reports have named Hank Fraley, Detroit O Line Coach, and New Orleans Coordinator Klint Kubiak as potentially talking with the team. The Seahawks moved on from Ryan Grubb after one-year as OC. Grubb’s first in the NFL after leaving the Washington Huskies. 

MLB: 

San Francisco cleared a roster spot to bring on pitcher Justin Verlander. The 1-year deal for the future Hall-of-Famer is now official. Verlander is expected to fit in somewhere in the middle of the starting rotation. 

Local:

College Hockey - The Bend Outdoor Classic at the Pavillion was a Ducks sweep. The University of Oregon took down Rochester Christian University in front of sell-out crowds both nights. 

Blazers Fall in Dallas...Ducks Hockey In Bend Tonight

NBA:

The Trail Blazers gave up a double digit lead and fell to the Mavericks 117 - 111 to close out the five game road trip in Dallas yesterday. Portland went 2 -3 on the trek to drop to 13 - 24 on the season. Anfernee Simons and Shaedon Sharpe both finished with 22 points. Scoot Henderson put in 20. The Blazers return home to face Miami tomorrow. 

College Hoops Today:

The Number 15 Oregon men got by Ohio State 73 - 71. The Ducks had to crawl back from a halftime deficit to get to 14 - 2 on the season. Next up is a trip to Penn State Sunday. Tip-off at 1 on here KBND.

The Oregon Women also had a two-point victory, taking down Penn State 63 - 61 yesterday. The Ducks nearly blew a big lead, scoring only 9 points in the 4th quarter. They’re on to Ohio State Sunday afternoon. 

The Oregon State Men lost in the closing seconds of overtime to Santa Clara last night. The 82 - 81 defeat sends the Beavers to 12 - 5. Next up is a trip to Stockton to face the Pacific Tigers tomorrow night.

The OSU Women beat San Francisco at Gill Coliseum last night 64 - 57. The Beavers get to 8 - 9, and are off until next week.

College Baseball:

Oregon State’s Aiva Arquette, Trent Caraway and Nelson Keljo have been named preseason All-Americans by Perfect Game. The season starts next month.

Local:

College Hockey - The Bend Classic at the Pavilion is tonight  and tomorrow. The University of Oregon takes on Rochester Christian University on the rink. First Ducks puck drop is at 7 both nights.

Girls Basketball tonight in non-league games Mountain View is at Crook County, Madras and La Pine are in action. Boys basketball Crook County is at Mountain View, and Madras, Redmond and Summit are all in action. In the Mountain Valley league Central Christian boys and girls play North Lake Paisley. 

Blazers, OSU, UO Men BB Lose...OSU WBB Win...High School Basketball Rankings

NBA:

The Trail Blazers went down 114 - 106 to Los Angeles last night. Portland had 5 players in double figures but the Lakers held off a late rally. The Blazers drop to 11 - 22 and head to Milwaukee tomorrow for a 5 pm tip-off.

College Hoops:

The Number 9 ranked Oregon men were blown out of the gym by number 22 Illinois last night 109 - 77. The Illini made an incredible 16 of 29 from deep. A 55-percent three-point percentage. The Ducks suffered just their 2nd loss of the season. Next up Maryland is in Eugene Sunday.

The OSU Men had a big loss too, falling 82 - 61 to Loyola Marymount last night. The Beavers drop to 1 - 1 in the WCC. It’s back to Gill Coliseum tomorrow to take on San Diego.

The Oregon State Women got a narrow 59 - 56 win over Loyola Marymount last night to get to 3 - 1 in the West Coast Conference. They’re at Washington State tomorrow at noon.

The Oregon Women play Wisconsin tomorrow at 12:30

NFL: Week 18

Seattle finishes the season against the LA Rams. Los Angeles has already locked up the division and will probably rest its main players. The Seahawks are favored by 6.5. It could also be the last game for wide receiver Tyler Lockett in a Seahawks uniform. The 32-year old is in his 10th year. The final one under his current contract. Kickoff is 1:25 Sunday.

The 49ers finish their season Sunday in Arizona. Kick-off against the Cardinals is at 1:25.

Local:

The OSAA Boys basketball Coaches Poll has Redmond 3rd and Caldera 4th in 5A. In 4A, Crook County is 6th and Madras is 7th. Trinity Lutheran is 6th in 2A.

College Football:

Another shot at a College Football Championship will come up short for the Ducks. Ohio State opened an early lead and kept piling it on before the U of O finally got on the board near the end of the first half. The second-half comeback attempt fell short and Oregon’s first loss ends their season in the quarterfinals.

The Trail Blazers open 2025 at 11 - 21 with a trip to Los Angeles to take on Lebron James and the 18 - 14 Lakers. Jerami Grant is still questionable with a face injury. The Blazers have lost seven straight games on the road. Tip off is at 7:30.

College Hoops:

Both the OSU Men and Women play Loyola Marymount tonight in West Coast Conference play. The women are 2 - 1 in the WCC, 6 - 8 tipping off from Gill Coliseum at 6. The Beaver men are 14 - 3 and 1 - 0 in the conference. They tip off in Los Angeles starting at 7.

The Number 9 ranked Oregon men resume conference play at Matthew Knight Arena when Illinois visits tonight. Coverage starts at 6:30. Tip off at 7 here on KBND.

Girls Basketball - Sisters hosts Junction City and Madras plays Caldera at the Sisters Tournament. Trinity Lutheran plays Cascade Christian at the Crusader Classic in Salem.

Boys Basketball: Sisters Tournament action includes the Outlaws playing Banks, and Madras playing Junction City.
